Fragosa Beach

Coim Beach (Praia de Coim) or Coin Rock Beach (Praia do Penedo de Coim) is a maritime beach of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, in the civil parish of A Ver-o-Mar, located between Esteiro Beach and Quião Beach.

Agro-Velho, historically and popularly known as Nova Póvoa, is one of the eleven officially designated districts located in the Portuguese city of Póvoa de Varzim. It is a beach resort district located around Lagoa Cove. It was mostly developed between the 1970s and the 1980s with high-rise buildings in the area of a dried-up saltwater lagoon, and it is the north expansion of the city's traditional beach district, Bairro Norte. Most of the highrise buildings of the city are clustered in this area, around Vasco da Gama avenue. The beachfront area was the location of a Roman fish factory complex, one of the buildings dated to the 1st century, the district only developed in the 20th century with the northwards expansion of Avenida dos Banhos and opening of Avenida Vasco da Gama. Early attractions include the horse track Velódromo in 1925, which later became Gomes de Amorim stadium, home of Sporting Club da Póvoa (1916-1940s), Varzim S.C. stadium in 1932, and the Póvoa de Varzim Bullfighting Arena in 1949. It became the sports center of Póvoa de Varzim for much of the 20th century.

Lagoa Cove (Enseada da Lagoa) or Lagoa Beach (Praia da Lagoa in Portuguese, lit. "Lagoon Beach") is an extensive crescent-shaped maritime beach of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. Lagoa Cove is located near Novotel Vermar, and there are beach bars all year-long, namely Bar da Praia and other bars. The beach is very popular in the summer, but very calm during winter. The beach has white sand and no or very few rocks, during low tide, some immersed rocks become islets.

The Estádio do Varzim Sport Club is a multi-use stadium in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. It is used mostly for football matches, and is the home stadium of Varzim Sport Clube. Able to hold 7,280 people, it was built in 1929.

A Ver-o-Mar, Aver-o-Mar or Averomar is an urban area in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. It is a former civil parish currently located in União das Freguesias de Aver-o-Mar, Amorim e Terroso, of which it is its seat. In the census of 2001, it had a population of 8,675 inhabitants and a total area of 5.21 km2. A 2012 law merged the parish with neighbouring Amorim and Terroso, becoming the northern parish of the city of Póvoa de Varzim.

Bairro da Matriz (In Portuguese it means Mother/First Church Quarter) is the historical neighbourhood of the Portuguese city of Póvoa de Varzim and part of the Matriz/Mariadeira district. Bairro da Matriz was a significant settlement in the 14th century, whose nucleus was the centre, whence the modern city grew, being a neighbourhood composed by old single family homes.

Avenida Vasco da Gama is a street in the north central area of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. It is one of the main avenues in the city, with hotels, banks, sports areas, bars and is the location in the city with most high-rises. It runs from Avenida do Mar, expansion of the avenue to A28 Motorway (freeway), and Rua Gomes de Amorim (EN 13 National Highway) to Avenida dos Banhos in the waterfront. It has some of Póvoa de Varzim's most famous landmarks such as Touro and Póvoa de Varzim Bullring.

Salgueira Beach (Praia da Salgueira in Portuguese) is an extensive maritime beach of the city Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. The beach has white sand and very few rocks, in the central spot with a northern rocky side, near Buddha Club, known as Praia Azul (Blue Beach). Salgueira is crossed by Banhos Avenue, Póvoa's main waterfront avenue. The beach took the name of a former district and is a classic surfing beach (Póvoa de Varzim spot), very popular amongst bodyboarders, as the waves in the spot are more suitable for bodyboard, but with the high tide it will be good to longboard and surf, suitable for experienced surfers. In earlier times, the local surfer community barely allowed outsiders or beginners to surf in this spot, currently it is open for almost everyone. The southern tip of the beach is known as Carvalhido near Esplanada do Carvalhido — a beach-square, while the northern tip, near Buddah Club, is known as Praia Azul (blue Beach).

Cape Santo André (Portuguese for Saint Andrew) is a cape located in the Northern coast of continental Portugal, in Santo André, municipality of Póvoa de Varzim. It is the tip of Póvoa de Varzim's cuspate foreland. It is probably the old Roman Avarius, Auarius Promontorium or Auaron Promontorium (In Ancient Greek, Αὔαρον ἄκρον) referred by Ptolemy, geographer of Ancient Greece, in the territory of the Callaici Bracares, between the river Avus (Ave River) and river Nebis (Neiva River).

Esteiro Beach or Praia do Esteiro in Portuguese, meaning tidal creek, is a beach on the southwestern coast of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It is adjacent to Aver-o-Mar and the beach has medium to fine sand, with a recovering grey dune ecosystem. The foredune had coastal windmills, some are preserved including the Luisa Dacosta windmill, a famous landmark, and another windmill was currently recovered. Luisa Dacosta was a Portuguese writer from Vila Real who lived and wrote the most relevant part of her work in her windmill where she lived. Luísa visited Póvoa de Varzim since a child for the beach. But she got in love by the beach on the side of the resort, Aver-o-Mar, almost a desert at the time, where she took roots, and her heart was soon divided by the austere Serra do Marão and the coastal rocky outcrops, the Penedaria da Beirada. Esteiro is located in the right bank of the small tidal channel, known in Portuguese as Esteiro, the other bank is known as Fragosa Beach, with the Penedaria da Beirada and Forcada Islet rocky outcrops. Due to small size, the estuary can be easily crossed during most of the year.

Quião Beach (Praia do Quião in Portuguese) is an extensive maritime beach of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, located just South of Cape Santo André in the area of A Ver-o-Mar. It has fine to medium sand and several rocky outcrops. The beach is a coastal dune habitat and a rich and diverse marine ecosystem, including large honeycomb reefs. It has a popular beach restaurant, Praia do Mestre. In northern section of Quião beach, where the waterfront street ends, the traditional Sargassum seaweed gathering is still practiced; it is spread and laid in the beach for sun drying, leaving a pleasant sargassum breeze in the beach, before being pilled to make "medas". This area is protected by dunes, the gneiss. Given its quietude, can be occasionally used naturists, and as a flirting area. It is increasingly popular by other groups of people. In 2016, a boardwalk was built crossing all Cape Santo André, allowing an easy cross of Northern Quião, it is used by the Portuguese Coastal Way of Saint James.

Aguçadoura Beach (Praia da Aguçadoura in Portuguese) is a very wide and extensive white sand beach of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. It is located in the parish of Aguçadoura. Aguçadoura is popular among Northern Portuguese and Northern Spanish surfers and the world's first commercial wave farm is located in front of Aguçadoura beach, at the Aguçadora Wave Park. The beach is notable for its sand dunes, a reminder of the beaches of the city before the urbanization and farming.The remaining dunes, though still numerous, are protected by the city council and the Municipal Director Plan (PDM) from further development.
