Gidgegannup, Western Australia

Gidgegannup Important Bird Area is a highly fragmented tract of land, where the fragments are patches of remnant native vegetation, bounded by a circle roughly 12 km in diameter. It is in south-western Western Australia about 30 km north-east of Perth and on the edge of the Perth suburban region. The towns of Gidgegannup and Parkerville lie on the periphery. It has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it supports at least 450 Baudin's black-cockatoos, as well as small numbers of Carnaby's black-cockatoos, in roost sites outside the breeding season within foraging range of feeding habitat. The IBA also supports red-capped parrots, rufous treecreepers, western spinebills, western thornbills and western yellow robins.

Karakamia Sanctuary is a 2.75 km2 nature reserve in south-west Western Australia, 4 km from Chidlow and 50 km north-east of Perth. It is located within the jarrah forest of the Darling Scarp and is owned and managed by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC).

Lake Leschenaultia, Western Australia is a former railway dam that is now a recreational lake in the Shire of Mundaring just north of the location of an important railway stopping place on the original Eastern Railway. The dam holds approximately 520 million litres of water.

Mount Helena is a suburb on the outskirts of Perth, in Western Australia, 35 km from the city, in the Shire of Mundaring. Its population in 2016 was 3,185 people.

Eastern Hills Senior High School is an Independent Public secondary school in Mount Helena, in the Perth Hills, 35 kilometres (22 mi) east of Perth, Western Australia. It serves approximately 950 students from year 7 to year 12.

Stoneville is a suburb east of Perth in the Shire of Mundaring, Western Australia. It is named after Edward Albert Stone, who was Chief Justice of Western Australia when the place was named in 1905. The name was chosen by the local residents, who were developing the district for fruit growing. The town's population is 2,050, with a median age of 36 years and 7.1% of residents aged over 65. In a bushfire in January 2014 a considerable number of houses were destroyed.In 2019 local residents resorted to activism in a bid to stop the proposed North Stoneville SP34 development in favour of more sustainable housing. External studies have shown existing road infrastructure can only cater for approx 70 more dwellings and main roads have confirmed there are no upgrades planned for this area intersecting Great Eastern Highway. A special councillors meeting was held in August, at which the Mundaring Shire unanimously rejected the proposal. As of October 2019 the final decision sits with the Western Australian Planning Commission.

Parkerville is a suburb in the Shire of Mundaring in Perth Western Australia. Jane Brook flows through Parkerville on its way down to the Swan River through John Forrest National Park.

Chidlow is a small community in the Shire of Mundaring approximately 45 kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia.

The extension of the Eastern Railway line in Western Australia to Chidlow's Well in 1884 was immediately useful to those in the region, to quote the West Australian of 17 April 1885: Already we find the daily train to be a great convenience. The difficulty of obtaining goods from Perth and Fremantle within a reasonable time is a thing of the past. And the comfort of travelling by train to Chidlow's Well, though nothing to boast of, is certainly better than going by coach, and quicker. Up until its closure, it had tearooms, and the overnight sleeper train 'The Westland' to Kalgoorlie had a refreshment stop at Chidlow. In some regularly reprinted photographs of the station buildings and platform the sign is for Chidlow's Well Refreshment Station. In all Working Timetables (WTT) during the operation of this line, there was an arrival and departure time, owing to either taking on water for steam engines, or change in crew. The Bellevue to Chidlow railway line involved the encounter with the Darling Scarp requiring extra power for the up line, and considerable extra caution for the down line. The station was closed in 1966 at the time of the Avon Valley rail route being opened, and the old Eastern Railway route became superfluous to WAGR needs. The Mundaring and Hills Historical Society usually have a photograph of this railway station in their annual calendar.

Katherine Mary Clutterbuck CSC MBE (October 1860 in Wiltshire, England – 31 July 1946 in Nedlands, Western Australia), usually known as Sister Kate, was an Anglican nun who pioneered a cottage home system for looking after orphan babies and children in Western Australia. She later became well known for her work with Indigenous Australian children who were selected according to a criterion of skin colour and sent to her homes to groom the young "nearly white" children for absorption into the white community. These children would later be described as part of the Stolen Generation. Clutterbuck was the daughter of well-off parents, Captain Clutterbuck and his wife. She was awarded an Order of the British Empire (Member of the Civil Division), on 1 January 1934, for her services to disadvantaged children. In December 2006, the West Australian newspaper published a list entitled the "100 Most Influential Western Australians" which included Clutterbuck. The list was developed by a committee including several eminent Western Australian historians.

The Parkerville Children's Home Bush Cemetery was part of the Parkerville Children's Home (originally The League of Charity Home for Waifs and Stray Babies). The Home was founded in 1903 by Anglican nuns led by Sister Kate. Parkerville Children's Home is located in Parkerville, Western Australia, and continues to operate. The numbers of children at Parkerville Children's Home increased from 22 in 1903, to approximately 109 in 1914. Conditions were very hard during that time and the Home relied on philanthropic donations to continue.When a child died the Sisters would carry the simple coffins by horse and cart along the small dirt track from the Home. The cemetery is located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the home. There are approximately 30 children buried in the cemetery who died between 1903 and 1919, but the names of only 24 are known. They are listed on a plaque by the entrance gate.A bushfire destroyed the wooden crosses on each grave and these were replaced with the existing concrete crosses. One early tombstone remains, that of baby Mary.

Mundaring is a suburb located 34 km east of Perth, Western Australia on the Great Eastern Highway. The suburb is located within the Shire of Mundaring. The Aboriginal name of the area "Mindah-lung", said to mean "a high place on a high place", was anglicised to become "Mundaring".The Mundaring area is considered to be part of the Perth Hills area.
