Cressage railway station

Cressage is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. It is located 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of the nearest town Much Wenlock and 8 miles (12.9 km) south-east of Shrewsbury. It lies the junction of the A458 and B4380 roads; the River Severn flows around its northern boundary. The parish council is combined with the neighbouring parish of Sheinton. The village's population at the 2021 United Kingdom census was 730.

Eaton Constantine is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Leighton and Eaton Constantine, in Shropshire, England. It is located just off the B4380 road, between Atcham and Buildwas, near The Wrekin hill. In 1931 the parish had a population of 200. On 1 April 1934 the parish was abolished and merged with Leighton.Near Eaton Constantine are the remains of a Roman vexillation fortress and three marching camps near a bend in the River Severn. The fortress lies in open farmland on a low south-eastward projecting spur between Ranslett House and Eye Farm. It was defended by a triple-ditch system measuring about 920 x 1,050 feet (c.280 x 320m) within the defences, which enclosed an area of just under 22¼ acres (c.9ha). This substantial defensive system indicates that this was no ordinary marching encampment, and its size would have been sufficient to house a substantial force of around 2,500 Roman legionaries and auxiliary soldiers. The fortress was probably occupied by a contingent of Legio XIV Gemina, together with a couple of auxiliary cavalry units.

Harley is a village and civil parish in the English county of Shropshire. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 163.

Sheinton is a small rural village and civil parish just outside Telford, and within Shropshire.It is situated on the south bank of the River Severn opposite the Wrekin, a notable Shropshire landmark. In October 2008 its historic bridge collapsed into the Hughley Brook.[1]

Leighton and Eaton Constantine is a civil parish in Shropshire, England. It consists of the village of Leighton, together with the smaller villages or hamlets of Eaton Constantine, Upper Longwood and Garmston. The parish, which had a population of 420 at the 2001 census, 467 at the 2011 Census, rising from just 206 in 1911, is around six miles southwest of Telford and 26 miles from Birmingham.

Cound Halt was an unstaffed railway station on the Severn Valley line in Shropshire, England. It opened on 4 August 1934 and although thought by some people to have been closed as part of the Beeching axe in 1963 its planned closure pre-dated his report. The site of the station is now occupied by the beer garden of the adjacent Riverside Inn pub.

Eyton on Severn (pronounced: Eye-ton on Severn) is a small village in the English county of Shropshire, east of Shrewsbury. It is located on a ridge above the northern bank of the River Severn. The significant tributary of the Cound Brook joins the Severn at Eyton, albeit on the opposite bank. Wroxeter, the village located at a ruined Roman city, is only a mile north-west of the village. The hamlet of Dryton is just east of Eyton. All lie in the parish of Wroxeter and Uppington. There is a historical octagonal tower here, built in 1607 as the summerhouse of a mansion then belonging to the Newport family of High Ercall. Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury, whose mother was a Newport, was born there in 1583 and lived there till the age of nine. Sir Francis Newport rebuilt the mansion in a version completed by 1595, Walter Hancock being its master mason, but only the tower remains from his lifetime.The Shrewsbury architect Thomas Farnolls Pritchard lived in the tower at Eyton from 1769 until his death in 1777.There is also a racecourse, with point-to-point races held mainly on bank holidays and other special occasions.

Donnington is a hamlet in the English county of Shropshire. It forms part of the civil parish of Wroxeter and Uppington. It lies near to Charlton Hill, which rises to 469 feet (143 m) above sea level. The hamlet contained a now defunct 'free grammar school' under patronage of the Newport family during the 17th and 18th centuries whose pupils included Royalist divine Richard Allestree and Puritan divine Richard Baxter, the latter of whom taught at the school for three months. Welsh poet Goronwy Owen was master at the school as well as curate at Uppington, from 1748 to 1753.

Harnage is a small village in the English county of Shropshire. It is located just SE of the village of Cound, in whose civil parish it lies, and the nearest notable settlement is Cressage. Harnage is considered a hamlet, not a village, as it does not have a post office. One road runs through the hamlet, passing residences, Harnage Farm, and Harnage House, a 17th-century house built on the site of an older mansion, allegedly dating back to the 11th or 12th century. The land was owned in the 12th century by Richard de Harnage, the progenitor of the Harnage family in England and in the USA. The name derives from the old English and means "rocky edge", which describes the area's landscape. It is completely agricultural. At the NW end of the road running through Harnage is the village of Cound (pronounced Koond) and at the other end is a junction at the foot of the hill, that runs into the place called Harnage Grange, a farm consortium, which, in ancient times pre-Henry VIII, used to be the home farm of Buildwas Abbey and Wenlock Priory, a few miles away near the town of Much Wenlock.

Cound Brook (pronounced COOnd) is a tributary of the River Severn in Shropshire, England, running to south of the county town Shrewsbury. The Cound Brook rises in the Stretton Hills, and enters the River Severn at Eyton on Severn after winding its way for 22 miles (35 km) across the southern Shropshire-Severn plain. This length is measured from high on the Long Mynd (near Boiling Well). The flow of the Cound Brook can vary from sluggish in a dry summer to a raging torrent in winter or spring. The river is crossed by several bridges along its route, including two historic and unusual iron bridges. Several other roads cross the river as fords. The river has breached its banks on the lower flood plain several times in the past, and is now monitored by the local rivers authority. The river is named after Cound, the last settlement it passes through prior to the confluence with the River Severn. Conversely, one of the villages on its route, Condover, is thought to have been named after the river during the late medieval period. The Coundmoor Brook is a smaller watercourse which flows into the Cound Brook at Cound, near its confluence with the Severn.

Cound Hall, in Cound, Shropshire, England, is a Grade I listed building. It is a large vernacular Baroque house, with a basement and two storeys of tall slender windows topped by a half-storey, built of red brick with stone dressings. The house was built in 1703–04 for Edward Cressett by John Prince of Shrewsbury.

Uppington is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wroxeter and Uppington, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. It is situated 7.5 miles East from Shrewsbury and 4 miles South-East from Wellington. It is located within the Diocese of Lichfield, within the Rural Deanery of Wrockwardine. Uppington covers a total area of around 706 acres, much of this being open fields, used for arable and pastoral farming, as well as a small amount of local woodland. In 1961 the parish had a population of 86. On 1 April 1986 the parish was abolished and merged with Wroxeter to form "Uppington & Wroxeter".
