Cound Brook

Eyton on Severn (pronounced: Eye-ton on Severn) is a small village in the English county of Shropshire, east of Shrewsbury. It is located on a ridge above the northern bank of the River Severn. The significant tributary of the Cound Brook joins the Severn at Eyton, albeit on the opposite bank. Wroxeter, the village located at a ruined Roman city, is only a mile north-west of the village. The hamlet of Dryton is just east of Eyton. All lie in the parish of Wroxeter and Uppington. There is a historical octagonal tower here, built in 1607 as the summerhouse of a mansion then belonging to the Newport family of High Ercall. Edward Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Cherbury, whose mother was a Newport, was born there in 1583 and lived there till the age of nine. Sir Francis Newport rebuilt the mansion in a version completed by 1595, Walter Hancock being its master mason, but only the tower remains from his lifetime.The Shrewsbury architect Thomas Farnolls Pritchard lived in the tower at Eyton from 1769 until his death in 1777.There is also a racecourse, with point-to-point races held mainly on bank holidays and other special occasions.

Cound Hall, in Cound, Shropshire, England, is a Grade I listed building. It is a large vernacular Baroque house, with a basement and two storeys of tall slender windows topped by a half-storey, built of red brick with stone dressings. The house was built in 1703–04 for Edward Cressett by John Prince of Shrewsbury.

Cound Halt was an unstaffed railway station on the Severn Valley line in Shropshire, England. It opened on 4 August 1934 and although thought by some people to have been closed as part of the Beeching axe in 1963 its planned closure pre-dated his report. The site of the station is now occupied by the beer garden of the adjacent Riverside Inn pub.

Cound is a village and civil parish on the west bank of the River Severn in the English county of Shropshire, about 7 miles (11 kilometres) south east of the county town Shrewsbury. Once a busy and industrious river port Cound has now reverted to a quiet rural community and dormitory village, for commuters to the commercial centres of Shrewsbury and Telford.

St Peter's Church is in the grounds of Cound Hall, Cound, Shropshire, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Condover, the archdeaconry of Ludlow, and the diocese of Hereford. Its benefice is united with those of 13 other parishes to form the benefice of Wenlock. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.

Wroxeter and Uppington is a civil parish in the English county of Shropshire. The population of the Civil Parish at the 2011 census was 382. It lies mainly between the River Severn and the old A5 (now the B5061) and stretches from Atcham to The Wrekin. The main villages are Wroxeter and Uppington. Also forming part of the parish are the hamlets of Rushton, Charlton Hill, Donnington, Eyton and Dryton, as well as Atcham Business Park/Industrial Estate.The parish has an active cricket club, the Wroxeter & Uppington CC. Formed in 1906, it was originally based in Donnington, and now has a ground in Uppington.

St Andrew's Church is a redundant Church of England parish church in the village of Wroxeter, Shropshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Both the village of Wroxeter and the church are in the southwest corner of the former Roman town of Viroconium.

Harnage is a small village in the English county of Shropshire. It is located just SE of the village of Cound, in whose civil parish it lies, and the nearest notable settlement is Cressage. Harnage is considered a hamlet, not a village, as it does not have a post office. One road runs through the hamlet, passing residences, Harnage Farm, and Harnage House, a 17th-century house built on the site of an older mansion, allegedly dating back to the 11th or 12th century. The land was owned in the 12th century by Richard de Harnage, the progenitor of the Harnage family in England and in the USA. The name derives from the old English and means "rocky edge", which describes the area's landscape. It is completely agricultural. At the NW end of the road running through Harnage is the village of Cound (pronounced Koond) and at the other end is a junction at the foot of the hill, that runs into the place called Harnage Grange, a farm consortium, which, in ancient times pre-Henry VIII, used to be the home farm of Buildwas Abbey and Wenlock Priory, a few miles away near the town of Much Wenlock.

Wroxeter ( ROK-sit-ər) is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Wroxeter and Uppington, in the Shropshire district, in the ceremonial county of Shropshire, England. It is beside the River Severn, 5 miles (8.0 km) south-east of Shrewsbury. In 1961 the parish had a population of 657.Viroconium Cornoviorum, the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, was sited here, and is gradually being excavated.

Viroconium or Uriconium, formally Viroconium Cornoviorum, was a Roman city, one corner of which is now occupied by Wroxeter, a small village in Shropshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) east-south-east of Shrewsbury. At its peak, Viroconium is estimated to have been the 4th-largest Roman settlement in Britain, a civitas with a population of more than 15,000. The settlement probably lasted until the end of the 7th century or the beginning of the 8th. Extensive remains can still be seen.

Donnington is a hamlet in the English county of Shropshire. It forms part of the civil parish of Wroxeter and Uppington. It lies near to Charlton Hill, which rises to 469 feet (143 m) above sea level. The hamlet contained a now defunct 'free grammar school' under patronage of the Newport family during the 17th and 18th centuries whose pupils included Royalist divine Richard Allestree and Puritan divine Richard Baxter, the latter of whom taught at the school for three months. Welsh poet Goronwy Owen was master at the school as well as curate at Uppington, from 1748 to 1753.

The River Tern (also historically known as the Tearne) is a river in Shropshire, England. It rises north-east of Market Drayton in the north of the county. The source of the Tern is considered to be the lake in the grounds of Maer Hall, Staffordshire. From here it flows for about 30 miles (48 km), being fed by the River Meese and the River Roden, until it joins the River Severn near Attingham Park, Atcham. Extensive peat bog formerly existed, extending from Crudgington on the Tern as far as Newport. At Longdon-on-Tern, the Tern is spanned by the Longdon-on-Tern Aqueduct, the world's first large-scale cast iron navigable aqueduct (Benjamin Outram's 13 m cast iron Holmes Aqueduct pre-dated it by a month), designed by Thomas Telford to carry the Shrewsbury Canal. Although no longer connected to the canal network, The 62-yard (57 m) long structure still stands today, but is marooned in the middle of a field.
