Bedlay railway station

Bedlay Castle is a former defensive castle, dating from the late 16th and 17th centuries. It is located between Chryston and Moodiesburn in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The castle is just off the A80 road, around 8 miles to the north-east of Glasgow, at NS692700. This castle has several ghostlore stories associated with it.

Moodiesburn is a village in Scotland, located 8 miles (13 kilometres) northeast of Glasgow, in the North Lanarkshire council area. It is situated on the north side of the A80 road and between the M73 and M80 motorways which converge nearby. Moodiesburn does not directly adjoin any other settlements, though the villages of Chryston and Muirhead are located a short distance to the west (the boundary being the Strathkelvin railway path there after you would be in Chryston), with Stepps beyond, and outer parts of Cumbernauld lie to the east; however, the town centres are about 5 miles (8 kilometres) apart.The village's economic standing greatly declined in the latter half of the 20th century, following the Auchengeich mining disaster and the disintegration of local employment. In recent times, the economic demographic of the population has improved. Good transport links enable a significant proportion of the population travel to the City of Glasgow, or nearby towns for employment in the professional and commercial sphere. The village is also located near several historical and cultural landmarks, including the Antonine Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was built by the Romans in the 2nd century AD. The area is popular with hikers and outdoor enthusiasts due to its scenery and proximity to the Scottish countryside.

Gartcosh (Scottish Gaelic: Gart Cois) is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The village lies a few miles east of Glasgow, and about one mile (two kilometres) northwest of the town of Coatbridge.According to a 2012 estimate, the population of Gartcosh was 2,130 people. Expansion of the village including 300 homes in the Heathfield Park estate built by Redrow Homes and new developments by Oak NGate (Gartloch Avenue/Bishop Loch), Avant Homes (Johsnton Loch) and Bellway Homes (Oakwood) have increased the population.

Gartcosh railway station serves the village of Gartcosh, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The railway station is managed by ScotRail and is located on the Cumbernauld Line, 7+3⁄4 mi (12 km) northeast of Glasgow Queen Street (High Level) station. The station was opened on 9 May 2005 by The Princess Royal. The station was built at a cost of over £3 million, provided by Strathclyde Passenger Transport and North Lanarkshire council, on the site of the previous Gartcosh station that closed in 1962.

Stoneyetts Hospital (also Stoneyetts Certified Institution for Mental Defectives) was a psychiatric hospital located in Moodiesburn, near Glasgow. Opened in 1913, Stoneyetts served as an important source of employment for residents within the expanding Moodiesburn area. The function of the institution changed throughout its existence: it originally cared for those with epilepsy, before housing people with intellectual disability, and from 1937 treating those with mental disorders. By the early 1970s there was an emphasis toward psychogeriatric care at the hospital. Complaints against Stoneyetts began to surface in the mid 1980s, preceding its controversial closure and demolition in 1992. The brownfield site lay derelict for the next 28 years, becoming a popular location for dog walking, but also for anti-social behaviour. It was redeveloped as a private housing estate in 2020.

Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) using the first-past-the-post voting system. It was created for the 2005 general election, covering the whole area of the Coatbridge and Chryston constituency and parts of the Hamilton North and Bellshill seat. A small area in the eastern side of Coatbridge lies within the Airdrie and Shotts constituency. Traditionally, the area served by the seat and its predecessors was the safest Labour area in Scotland. Its previous MP was Hugh Gaffney of the Labour Party, who gained the seat at the 2017 general election, succeeding SNP MP Phil Boswell, who had held the seat since the SNP landslide victory in 2015. It was retaken by the SNP's Steven Bonnar at the 2019 general election. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be subject to boundary changes which will include the loss of Chryston. As a consequence, it will be renamed Coatbridge and Bellshill, to be first contested at the next general election.

Chryston High School is a six-year non-denominational secondary school situated in Chryston, North Lanarkshire Scotland. The school plays an important role in the community with the students assisting with local authorities. The school was awarded the Charter Mark in September 2007, for excellence in customer service.

Muirhead is a small town approximately 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Glasgow city centre. Nearby villages and towns include Chryston, Garnkirk, Gartcosh, Moodiesburn, Lenzie and Stepps. Muirhead has a population of around 1,390. It is a commuter town to Glasgow with road links with the A80/M80 and frequent bus services the 37c x35, x37, and x3. Muirhead is located approximately two miles from Gartcosh, Lenzie and Stepps railway stations.

Mollinsburn is a settlement in the North Lanarkshire area of Scotland. It is situated on the A80 road between Condorrat to the east and Moodiesburn to the west. The population is around 100. It used to be known as Mollinburn and the stream known as Mollins Burn joins the Luggie Water east of the village.Mollinsburn is south of the Luggie and the M80 and M73 motorways are between the river and the village - the roads converge at that point, resulting in the Mollinsburn name being used frequently in regional traffic reports. There is a Roman fort at Mollins, 4 kilometers south of the Antonine Wall, which was discovered by aerial photography in 1977. The wall passes a few miles north of Mollinsburn, the nearest forts being Croy Hill and Bar Hill. The etymology of the name is a semi-translation of ‘Allt a' Mhuilinn’, meaning "burn of the mill".

Chryston is a village in North Lanarkshire, around 7 miles (11 km) east of Glasgow, in Scotland. It lies north of its sister village, Muirhead, which is on the A80. The village has around double Muirhead's population, although the exact boundary between the two modern villages is difficult to find.

Garnqueen railway station served the suburb of Garnqueen, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, from 1849 to 1851 on the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway.

Glenboig (Scottish Gaelic: An Gleann Bhog) is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland lying north of Coatbridge and to the south east of Kirkintilloch and is approximately ten miles (sixteen kilometres) from Glasgow City Centre. According to a 2020 estimate, the population of Glenboig was 2,990.Historically the settlement formed the south eastern extremity of the ancient Gaelic province of the Lennox (Scottish Gaelic: An Leamhnachd) which lay roughly within the former county of Dunbartonshire. The etymology of the name is uncertain but may mean "boggy or soft glen". Some online maps refer to the area as Marnock but locals call the area Glenboig.Glenboig's main industry was fireclay and Glenboig's name was known across the world.
