Burnholme Community College was a high school on the east side of York, North Yorkshire. It served the suburbs of Heworth, Tang Hall and parts of Osbaldwick. Due to declining enrolment, the college closed in 2014. Most of its pupils were transferred to Archbishop Holgate's School, which is less than 3 mi (4.8 km) away from the former school site. Some pupils also transferred to Huntington School and Joseph Rowntree School with school buses being provided to serve the area of Tang Hall. Part of the school site is planned to be used for a new care home.

Tang Hall is a suburban district of the city of York in North Yorkshire, England. The name is derived from the Anglo Saxon Tang, which means the meeting place of two becks (Osbaldwick and Tang Hall becks join in the nearby St Nicholas Fields Local Nature Reserve, but this portion of the water courses is now culverted), and a Hall that stood on Fourth Avenue until the 1970s. The Hall was latterly used as the Tang Hall pub until it was demolished and replaced by a purpose-built pub which in turn was demolished in 2007.

Derwenthorpe is a housing development situated approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) to the east of York city centre which is adjacent to Osbaldwick, Tang Hall and Meadlands. The design and planning for this new estate was undertaken by the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) and the building contract for all four build phases has been awarded to Barratt Developments (under the brand name "David Wilson Homes").The original name of "New Osbaldwick" was dropped in favour of "Derwenthorpe" in 2004 in reference to the Derwent Valley Light Railway that used to run through the site.

Christ Church is located on Stockton Lane in Heworth, York, England. It was opened in March 1964. It has been called "one of the most pleasing modern churches." The building design is attributed to 'M. Menim;' this may have been A. Michael Mennim, who designed a number of churches in the York area.The church was originally a daughter church of Holy Trinity Church in Heworth, but was separated into its own ecclesiastical parish in 1998. The church is also used as a dance-hall and meeting place for local community groups, such as the York Minster Scout Group.

Heworth is part of the city of York in North Yorkshire, England, about 1 mile (1.6 km) north-east of the centre. No longer in general referred to as a village, "Heworth Village" is now the name of a specific road. The name "Heworth" is Anglo-Saxon and means a "high enclosure".

Osbaldwick is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish as taken at the Census 2011 was 2,902. It has been in existence since at least the 11th century, and was declared a conservation area in 1978. It is the burial place of the nun Mary Ward.

Archbishop Holgate's School is a coeducational Church of England secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in York, North Yorkshire, England.

Layerthorpe is a village in the unitary authority area of the City of York, North Yorkshire, England. It is outside the city walls of York. The road through Layerthorpe from the bridge over the River Foss to Heworth is also shares the same name.

St Thomas' Church is the parish church in Osbaldwick, a suburban village to the east of York, in England. The church was built of limestone in the 12th century. The nave, chancel, and several round-headed windows date from this period. The bowl of a 12th-century font also survives, although it is broken and no longer in use. A window on the south side of the chancel dates was added in about 1300. Around the nave, the lower part of the wall is panelled, and some panelling dates from the 16th century, while the communion table and pulpit are Jacobean.The church was heavily restored by John Oldrid Scott in 1877. In 1967, A. Michael Mennim added a south transept, a new south porch, a vestry, and an organ chamber, giving the church an L-shaped plan. He moved the Perpendicular east window to the south end of the transept, and made the east end a blank wall. He also relocated the 12th century south door to the east side of the transept.In 2005, the church was reordered, with the addition of a kitchen, and the replacement of the pews with chairs.Mary Ward, founder of the Congregation of Jesus, is buried in the churchyard. Her gravestone, now in the church's south wall, is inscribed: "To love the poore, persever in the same, live, dy and rise with them was all the ayme of Mary Ward who having lived 60 years and 8 days dyed the 20th of Jan 1641".The church was Grade II listed in 1953.

Alcuin College is a college of the University of York located on Siward's Howe in the English city of York in the county of Yorkshire. It is one out of eleven colleges of the university, being the nearest to the library on the Heslington West part of the campus.

Siward's Howe, sometimes written Siwards How and also known as Heslington Hill or Bunny Hill, is a terminal moraine located to the south-east of the city of York. The howe is situated north west of the Morrell Library building of the University of York. The southern side of the howe is part of Alcuin College of the University of York. Its imposing water tower is visible from many parts of the nearby suburbs of Tang Hall and Osbaldwick.Howe, when derived from the Old Norse: haugr, means hill, knoll, or mound and may refer to a tumulus, or barrow. Siward's Howe is named for Siward, Earl of Northumbria, the 11th-century Danish warrior. He was romanticised in the William Shakespeare play, Macbeth. Siward died at York during 1055 and is rumoured to have been buried beneath the tumuli at the wooded summit.

The Heslington Hoard is a coin hoard found in York, England, dating from the mid-4th century AD. It consisted of approximately 2,800 coins held within a pottery container. It was acquired by the Yorkshire Museum.
