The Rijeka Orthodox Synagogue is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue, located on Ivan Filipović Street, formerly Galvani Street (opposite the Faculty of Economics), in Rijeka in Croatia. The synagogue was built in a Rationalist style in 1931 (when Rijeka was part of Italy). It is one of the very few synagogues in Croatian territory to have survived the destruction of the Nazi period.

Corpus separatum, a Latin term meaning "separated body", refers to the status of the City of Fiume (modern Rijeka, Croatia) while given a special legal and political status different from its environment under the rule of the Kingdom of Hungary. Formally known as City of Fiume and its District (Hungarian: Fiume város és kerülete), it was instituted by Empress Maria Theresa in 1779, determining the semi-autonomous status of Fiume within the Habsburg monarchy until the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918.

The Province of Fiume (or Province of Carnaro) was a province of the Kingdom of Italy from 1924 to 1943, then under control of the Italian Social Republic and German Wehrmacht from 1943 to 1945. Its capital was the city of Fiume. It took the other name after the Gulf of Carnaro (Golfo del Carnaro). The province was divided into 13 municipalities and in 1938 had an area of 1,121.29 km ² with a population of 109,018 inhabitants and a density of 109 inhabitants / km ².

Italian Secondary School in Rijeka (Croatian: Srednja talijanska škola Rijeka; Italian: Scuola media superiore italiana Fiume) is a public high school in the city of Rijeka, Croatia. The school was established in 1888 and been in operation continuously since then. The school building is protected as a cultural heritage. Building was renovated in the period from 2006 to 2008 with support of City of Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.Students of the school were among the founders of the Olimpia sport club, that has over the years, became the most successful sport organization in Rijeka.

The Port of Rijeka (Croatian: Luka Rijeka, IPA: [lǔːka rijěːka]) is a seaport in Rijeka, Croatia, located on the shore of the Kvarner Gulf in the Adriatic Sea. The first records of the port date to 1281. It was the main port of the Kingdom of Hungary in the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, of Yugoslavia between World War II and 1991, and of Croatia after its independence. Today, it is the largest port in Croatia with a cargo throughput of 13.6 million tonnes (2020), mostly oil, general cargo and bulk cargo, and 344,091 Twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

Novi list (lit. 'New paper') is the oldest Croatian daily newspaper published in Rijeka. It is read mostly in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County of Croatia, but it is distributed throughout the country. Novi list had the distinction of being the only Croatian daily newspaper which kept a critical distance from the government of Franjo Tuđman during the 1990s. Up to the recent times, it was considered a centre-left newspaper, while in the last couple of years, after acquisition by the Slovakian JOJ Media House, it shifted its position to represent centre-right values, and became the only major Croatian newspaper which is very uncritical towards the last few Croatian government cabinets held by conservatives.

The University of Rijeka (Croatian: Sveučilište u Rijeci) is in the city of Rijeka, Croatia, with faculties in cities throughout the regions of Primorje, Istria and Lika. The University of Rijeka is composed of eleven faculties, one art academy, two departments, university libraries and the Student Centre Rijeka (SCRI).

Rijeka ( ree-EH-kə ree-AY-kə, also US: ree-YEH-kə, Croatian pronunciation: [rijěːka] (listen); also known as Fiume Hungarian: Fiume, Italian: Fiume [ˈfjuːme]; local Chakavian: Reka; German: Sankt Veit am Flaum; Slovene: Reka) is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). It is located in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County on Kvarner Bay, an inlet of the Adriatic Sea and in 2021 had a population of 108,622 inhabitants. Historically, because of its strategic position and its excellent deep-water port, the city was fiercely contested, especially between the Holy Roman Empire, Italy and Croatia, changing rulers and demographics many times over centuries. According to the 2011 census data, the majority of its citizens are Croats, along with small numbers of Serbs, Bosniaks and Italians. Rijeka is the main city and county seat of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The city's economy largely depends on shipbuilding (shipyards "3. Maj" and "Viktor Lenac Shipyard") and maritime transport. Rijeka hosts the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc, first built in 1765, as well as the University of Rijeka, founded in 1973 but with roots dating back to 1632 and the local Jesuit School of Theology.Apart from Croatian and Italian, linguistically the city is home to its own unique dialect of the Venetian language, Fiuman, with an estimated 20,000 speakers among the autochthonous Italians, Croats and other minorities. Historically Fiuman served as the main lingua franca among the many ethnicities inhabiting the multi-ethnic port city. In certain suburbs of the modern extended municipality the autochthonous population still speaks Chakavian, a dialect of Croatian. In 2016, Rijeka was selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2020, alongside Galway, Ireland.

The Rijeka Synagogue (Croatian: Riječka sinagoga), also called the Great Synagogue of Rijeka, was a former Neolog Jewish synagogue, located in Rijeka, Croatia. Completed in 1903, the synagogue served as the main synagogue of the city until it was destroyed by Nazis in 1944.

The 1995 Rijeka bombing occurred on 20 October 1995 in Rijeka, Croatia, when an Islamic terrorist organization attempted to destroy a police station by driving a car with a bomb into the wall of the building. Twenty-seven employees in the police station and two bystanders on the street were injured, although the only person killed was the attacker.

The Church of St. Nicholas (Serbo-Croatian: Crkva svetog Nikole / Црква светог Николе) is a Serbian Orthodox church in Rijeka, Croatia. The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The building of the church was completed in 1790.

The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Rijeka (Croatian: Riječka nadbiskupija i Metropolita; Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitae Fluminensis) is a Latin Catholic Metropolitan archdiocese in Croatia. Its episcopal seat is Rijeka Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Vitus (Croatian: Katedrala Sv. Vida), in the city of Rijeka. Other major churches include the former cathedral, dedicated to Saints Philip and James (Croatian: Crkva sv. Filipa i Jakova), located in nearby Novi Vinodolski, and a minor basilica, the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin (Croatian: Bazilika Blažene Djevice Marije), in the suburb of Trsat.
