Dimson is a small village in Cornwall, England. It is situated in the Tamar Valley approximately 10+1⁄2 miles (16.9 km) north of Plymouth and around two-thirds of a mile (1.1 km) north of Gunnislake. According to the Post Office, at the 2011 census population details were included in the civil parish of Calstock.

Drakewalls is a small village in southeast Cornwall, England, UK. It is in Calstock parish, adjacent to Gunnislake between Callington and Tavistock. Primary education is provided by Delaware Community Primary School (formerly known as Delaware County Primary School) (at 50.515144°N 4.225962°W / 50.515144; -4.225962). It educates children from the ages of 4 to 11. The majority of pupils move onto Callington Community College after Year 6. Gunnislake railway station on the Tamar Valley Line is located in the village.

Sylvia's Meadow is a nature reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest owned and managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust. It is a herb rich, 5-hectare (12-acre) site situated near Gunnislake, in East Cornwall, England.

Albaston (Cornish: Trevalba) is a hamlet in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is in the civil parish of Calstock. It is located at Ordnance Survey grid reference SX 423 704. Albaston is about 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) from the centre of Gunnislake and half-a-mile (0.7 kilometres) from Gunnislake railway station, the terminus of the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth.

Devon Great Consols was a copper mine near Tavistock in Devon, England. The lease on the site was taken from the Duke of Bedford in 1844 by a group of investors, Sanderson & Co., that included the father of William Morris. The 1,024 shares, sold at one pound each, were divided among the six men. Earlier attempts to mine this property had all ended in failure. Work at the site began in August of the same year, when it was known as North Bedford Mines or Wheal Maria. By November 1844, a rich vein of copper ore was discovered at a depth of 20 fathoms (about 36 metres) under ground. After learning that the copper lode extended eastward for over two miles (over 3 km), the company quickly began opening other mines on its property. In the first six years of operation, nearly 90,000 tons of copper ore had come from Devon Great Consols. The mine was so productive that transport by horse and wagon could no longer handle the volume of copper it sent to the docks at Morwellham Quay. The company built its own railway, the Devon Great Consols Railway, to get its product to market; it was also necessary for the firm to build a Great Dock and Morwellham Quay because of the amount of copper it had to ship. It was once viewed as the most productive copper mine in the world. When cheaper sources of copper became available from abroad, the company began refining arsenic in 1867 and was considered to be its largest producer in the 19th century.

The Battle of Hingston Down took place in 838, probably at Hingston Down in Cornwall between a combined force of Cornish and Vikings on the one side, and West Saxons led by Ecgberht, King of Wessex on the other. The result was a West Saxon victory. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, which called the Cornish the West Welsh: In this year a great naval force arrived among the West Welsh, and the latter combined with them and proceeded to fight against Ecgberht, king of the West Saxons. When he heard that, he then went hither with his army, and fought against them at Hingston Down, and put both the Welsh and the Danes to flight. Most historians of the period identify the site of the battle as Hingston Down north-east of Callington in Cornwall, but others argue for Hingston Down near Moretonhampstead, Devon, and Hingston Hill, near to Down Tor on Dartmoor The British kingdom of Dumnonia, which covered Devon and Cornwall, survived into the early eighth century, when eastern Devon was conquered by Wessex. Conflict continued throughout the 8th century with Wessex pushing further west. In 815 King Egbert raided Cornwall "from east to west" which, given later battles at Gafulford and Hingston Down probably indicates the conquest of the remaining parts of West Devon. This was the last recorded battle between the Cornish and the West Saxons and ended roughly a century of warfare that began at the Battle of Llongborth in 710 (see Geraint of Dumnonia). The last known king of Cornwall, Dungarth, died in 875, but he is thought to have been an under-king subject to Wessex.

Hingston Down is a hill not far from Gunnislake in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is the subject of an old rhyme, due to the prolific tin mining that formerly took place in the area: Hingston Down well ywroughtIs worth London Town dearly bought. This Hingston Down should not be confused with the Hingston Down at 50.661°N 3.746°W / 50.661; -3.746, a hill spur about a mile east of the town of Moretonhampstead in the neighbouring county of Devon.

Gunnislake railway station (Cornish: Dowrgonna) serves the village of Gunnislake in Cornwall, England. There are also connecting buses from here to the town of Tavistock. However the station is located in or nearer to the villages of Drakewalls and Albaston. It is the northern terminus of the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth.

Gunnislake (Cornish: Dowrgonna) is a large village in east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated in the Tamar Valley approximately ten miles (16 km) north of Plymouth The first woman cabinet minister in the British Empire, Mary Ellen Smith, was born here in 1863. Gunnislake is in the civil parish of Calstock and is close to Cornwall's border with Devon which follows the course of the River Tamar. It has an electoral ward in its own name which includes much of Calstock and the surrounding area. The population at the 2011 census was 4,574. According to an OCSI report, of the total population, 562 (18.2%) are children, making up a larger proportion of the population than across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (17.3%). 685 (22.2%) are people of pensionable age, making up a smaller proportion of the population than across Cornwall and Isles of Scilly (24.3%). The village has a history of mining although this industry is no longer active in the area. During the mining boom in Victorian times more than 7000 people were employed in the mines of the Tamar Valley. During this period Gunnislake was held in equal standing amongst the richest mining areas in Europe.

Norris Green is a village in Cornwall, England, UK. It was enlarged from a farming hamlet so that it now adjoins the neighbouring village of Higher Metherell. Both settlements are within the civil parish of Calstock which borders the River Tamar, the county boundary with Devon in south-east Cornwall.

The Battle of Gunnislake New Bridge took place on 20 July 1644 on and around Gunnislake New Bridge, a bridge over the River Tamar between Cornwall and Devon, during the First English Civil War.
