Aokautere

Whakarongo is a suburb of Palmerston North, New Zealand, between the city and Ashhurst. It is mainly rural, and features many vegetable gardens. Whakarongo was originally named Stoney Creek and along with neighbouring Kelvin Grove was part of the Stoney Creek Scandinavian and Roadmen's Block. The area was one of the first Special Settlements established by the Government (along with Karere Scandinavian Block, between Awapuni and Longburn).The original Scandinavian settlers were the first to arrive under Vogel's Immigration and Public Works Scheme. The majority arrived on the second ship (England) which arrived in April 1871, with a handful from the first ship (Celaeno) which arrived in February 1871. The Roadmen were mainly the British 'workmates' of the Scandinavian settlers.Kelvin Grove Cemetery was established in Whakarongo in 1927.There are no parks in the area.State Highway 3 passes through Whakarongo on Napier Road. Stoney Creek Road, named after the original settlement, connects the area with Bunnythorpe.

Hokowhitu is a riverside suburb of the New Zealand city of Palmerston North, with some of the highest property values in the city. The Palmerston North Teachers' College was built in Hokowhitu in the 1960s. Massey University took over the college in 2009. The New Zealand Defence Force began using some of the buildings in 2011.Massey relocated the college to Turitea campus in 2013 and sold the land in 2016. When the site was sold, the land consisted of 20 buildings; including halls, offices, a library, a marae and sporting facilities. The site began to be redeveloped into housing in 2018.The Hokowhitu Lagoon, Caccia Birch House, Jickell Street Reserve and Manawatu Golf Course are located next to the former education campus. Wallace Park, the home of the Ruahine Association Football Club and local cricket teams, is located nearby. Other local features include the Hokowhitu Domain, Crewe Crescent Reserve, Franklin Reserve, Fitzroy Bend Park, Milverton Park and playground, Awatea Reserve and stream, Hardie St Park and Centennial Drive Reserve.Hokowhitu is part of the Palmerston North and Te Tai Hauāuru electorates. Until 2013, it had its own ward councilors on the Palmerston North City Council.

Terrace End Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Almost 10,000 people have been buried in the cemetery since Rangitāne gifted the land to the fledgling Palmerston North settlement in 1875.Plots are now closed, but the descendants of those buried at the cemetery can be buried with their relatives. The cemetery was replaced by Kelvin Grove Cemetery in 1927.

Terrace End is a suburb of Palmerston North, New Zealand. Terrace End is located in the south east part of the city on a bend in the Manawatu River. It is bounded to the north by Main Street East, Roslyn and Kelvin Grove. On the east by Whakarongo, the south by the Manawatu River and Hokowhitu and the west by Ruahine Street, Papaioea and Hokowhitu. The suburb is predominantly residential. In 2018, Terrace End had a resident population of 6,177.The area includes Palmerston North Golf Club, Brightwater Centre, Memorial Park, Balmoral Park and Ruamahanga Wilderness Reserve.

Institute of the Pacific United is a Japanese and New Zealand tertiary educational institution based in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Another network of the institute is International Pacific University, which was established in 2007 in Okayama, Japan. Students of IPU New Zealand are from 24 different countries around the world. IPU New Zealand mainly offers tertiary education of business (including accounting, finance, marketing and management), international relations, linguistics, environmental studies and tourism. Despite the fact that the institution had been known as International Pacific College (IPC) for 25 years, its name was officially changed to Institute of the Pacific United (IPU New Zealand) on 26 September 2015.

Fitzherbert is a suburb of Palmerston North, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. The Massey University Manawatu Campus is west and northwest of Fitzherbert. The Food HQ was established north of the Massey University campus in 1971, and includes Plant & Food Research, Fonterra and Massey University research facilities.

Hokowhitu Lagoon, also sometimes called Centennial Lagoon, is a natural oxbow lake in the city of Palmerston North, New Zealand. Hokowhitu was created from a meander of the Manawatu River. Many features surround the lagoon including a walkway, Caccia Birch House, and a former campus of a Massey University — the facilities of which are now used by the New Zealand Defence Force, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and the Abbey Theatre Company. The lagoon also gives its name to the surrounding suburb, Hokowhitu. An artesian bore, which was completed in 2009, is drilled 94 metres (308 ft) into an underground aquifer which supplies the lagoon with 250,000 litres of water daily.

Memorial Park is a multi-use stadium in Palmerston North, New Zealand. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of YoungHeart Manawatu before they disbanded. The stadium has a capacity of 8,000 people. The stadium hosted the final of the 2011 Chatham Cup on 28 August 2011. Wairarapa United won the competition for the first time in their history, defeating Napier City Rovers 2–1. This is the first time that the final of New Zealand's premier knockout football competition has been held in Palmerston North. In 2015 Central Football board member Bruce McGhie proposed a plan to the Palmerston North City Council on making the ground an all-weather sports field. He stated that by 2019–20 Memorial Park would have a multi-purpose artificial sports field. The plan is set to cost $1.7 million.

Caccia-Birch House (previously: Nannestad Homestead, Woodhey, Vice-Regal Residence, The Convalescent Home for Women of the Services) is a New Zealand colonial homestead and a Heritage New Zealand Category I Historic Place. It is located at 130 Te Awe Awe Street in the city of Palmerston North. Completed in 1892, it is named after William Caccia Birch and his wife Maude, who gifted the property to the government in 1941.The property, owned by Palmerston North City Council, is administered by the Caccia Birch Trust Board, and operates as a conference and events venue on a cost-recovery basis. The Coach House Museum includes photos of the property's previous owners.

Cornerstone Christian School is an integrated co-educational Area School (combined Primary and Secondary) for Years 1–13 in the city of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The school is divided by an administrative block between the junior and senior areas, after the senior area the newly installed intermediate block is situated.

Turitea is a suburb of Palmerston North in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. It is located on the southern side of the Manawatu River, south of Massey University. Turitea is the home to Palmerston North's water supply and location of a planned wind farm. Most of Turitea is in the Fitzherbert Ward in the Palmerston North City Council, alongside the neighbouring suburbs of Aokautere and Linton. Prior to 1996, Turitea was part of the Manawatu electorate. However, due to the reformation of the electoral system from FPP to MMP, the electorate of Palmerston North's boundaries were redrawn to include Turitea. In 2007, the boundaries were redrawn and Turitea was transferred to the Rangitikei electorate, thus making Palmerston North completely surrounded by Rangitikei.

The Whakarongo Railway Station was a passenger rail station on the Palmerston North to Gisborne line, in the suburb of Whakarongo in the north of Palmerston North. The station was situated between the Terrace End Station and Ashhurst Station. The station opened on 9 March 1891. It closed to passengers in the 1960s and was demolished in 1967 likely due to the opening of the new Palmerston North Railway Station. An adjacent goods-yard was uplifted in the 1980s, with closure to all traffic on 30 October 1983. Only a single track through the station site now remains.
