Halls Branch (Lovills Creek tributary)

Lovill's Creek Lake is a man-made lake located in Carroll County, Virginia.It was created in 1990 by the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service.As of 2019 the area has become the home of two Bald Eagles who have taken up residence at the lake. Salem is an unincorporated community located in northern Surry County, North Carolina, United States on the outskirts of the city of Mount Airy. The community generally lies between Lovills Creek and the Ararat River (Powell 1968, p. 434). Prominent landmarks include Salem United Methodist Church.

WPAQ (740 kHz) is a commercial radio station licensed to Mount Airy, North Carolina, serving the Piedmont area of North Carolina, Southwest Virginia and Southside Virginia. WPAQ is owned and operated by WPAQ Radio, Inc. It airs a mix of Americana, Bluegrass, Classic Country and Southern Gospel music, along with some brokered Christian talk and teaching shows. The transmitter and studios are on Springs Road at Mount View Drive in Mount Airy.By day, WPAQ is powered at 10,000 watts non-directional. But 740 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A station CFZM Toronto. To avoid interference with CFZM, WPAQ must reduce power to 1,000 watts during critical hours and to only 7 watts at night. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W294CE at 106.7 MHz.

Mount Airy Township is one of fifteen townships in Surry County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 23,750 according to the 2020 census.Geographically, Mount Airy Township occupies 43.1 square miles (112 km2) in northern Surry County, with its northern border being with the state of Virginia. Mount Airy Township is the most populated township of Surry County, accounting for nearly 35% of the total county population. There are multiple unincorporated communities located here, including Bannertown, Boones Hill, Flat Rock, Franklin, Holly Springs, Salem, Sheltontown, Slate Mountain, Toast, White Plains, and White Sulphur Springs. The township surrounds the city of Mount Airy and includes the census-designated places of Flat Rock, Toast, and White Plains. U.S. Route 52 bypasses the city to the west and hosts much of the area's retail activity, including hotels, restaurants, and the Mayberry Mall. Interstate 74 passes through the southern side of Mount Airy Township, which is in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro Combined MSA.

The Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention is a popular festival devoted to old-time and bluegrass music, as well as related arts such as dance, which takes place each summer at Veterans Memorial Park in Mount Airy, North Carolina, United States. It was established in 1972. It is held on the first weekend in June. The festival features numerous solo and band competitions, whose winners are awarded cash prizes.Regular performers at the festival include Benton Flippen, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Ira Bernstein.
