Gibson Knott is a fell in the English Lake District, an intermediate height on the ridge between Greenburn and Far Easedale in the Central Fells.

Dunmail Raise is the name of a large cairn in the English Lake District, which may have been an old boundary marker. It has given its name to the mountain pass of Dunmail Raise, on which it stands. This mountain pass forms part of the only low-level route through the mountains between the northern and southern sides of the Lake District. According to local tradition, the cairn marked the burial of a king named Dunmail who was slain by Saxons. The place name itself may well be derived from the name of the historical Dyfnwal ab Owain, King of Strathclyde.

The A591 is a major road in Cumbria, which lies almost entirely within the Lake District national park. A 2009 poll by satellite navigation firm Garmin named the stretch of the road between Windermere and Keswick as the most popular road in Britain. The 29.8 mile stretch between Kendal and Keswick was also named the UK's best driving road, according to a specially devised driving ratio formulated by car rental firm Avis.

The Rothay is a spate river of the Lake District in north-west England. Its name comes from Old Norse and translates literally as the red one. This has come to mean trout river. It rises close to Rough Crag above Dunmail Raise at a point about 1542 feet (470 m) above sea level (grid reference NY306108). Its catchment area covers Grasmere Common including Easedale Tarn, the southern flanks of Fairfield, and several of the fells to the east of Dunmail Raise, including Great Rigg, Rydal Fell, Scandale Fell and Heron Pike. From its source the Rothay descends through the valley of Greenburn Bottom to the hamlet of Helmside not far from the main A591 road over Dunmail Raise. Just north of the village of Grasmere the river subsumes Easedale Gill and Sour Milk Gill, the latter flowing out of Easedale Tarn. In the village the river flows close to the churchyard where the poet Wordsworth is buried. The Rothay then flows into the head of the lake of Grasmere (elevation 208 feet/63 m). As well as replenishing Grasmere, the Rothay also drains it, flowing for just half a mile (800 m) from the southern end of the lake before replenishing Rydal Water (elevation 181 feet/55 m) at its western extremity. The Rothay drains Rydal from its easternmost point and then flows in a general southerly direction for about three miles (4.8 km) before merging with the River Brathay at Croft Lodge south-west of Ambleside. From there the rivers flow into the northern end of Windermere. In addition to those tributaries already noted, several others are subsumed by the Rothay. About a mile (1.6 km) north of Ambleside the Rothay is crossed by a well-known set of stepping stones. Several sections of the Rothay are popular with canoeists, including the section between Grasmere and Rydal; the river is graded as 2+. The Rothay is a trout fishery where brown trout can be caught. Anglers should enquire locally about licences (an Environment Agency Rod Licence is required). The River Rothay is wholly within the historic county of Westmorland. After local government reorganisation in 1974 the river was in the administrative county of Cumbria. Following further local government reorganisation in 2023 the river flows within the council area administered by Westmorland and Furness Council.

Helm Crag is a fell in the English Lake District situated in the Central Fells to the north of Grasmere. Despite its low height it sits prominently at the end of a ridge, easily seen from the village. This, combined with the distinctive summit rocks which provide the alternative name 'The Lion and the Lamb', makes it one of the most recognised hills in the District. Alfred Wainwright wrote of Helm Crag that "The virtues of Helm Crag have not been lauded enough. It gives an exhilarating little climb, a brief essay in real mountaineering, and, in a region where all is beautiful, it makes a notable contribution to the natural charms and attractions of Grasmere."

St John's, Castlerigg and Wythburn is a civil parish in Allerdale district, Cumbria, England. In the 2011 census it was recorded as having a population of 422. There is a parish council; its archives 1894–1995 are held at the Cumbria Archive Service in Carlisle. in 2004 a parish plan was drawn up and approved by the parish council.The parish covers an area on either side of the A591 road from Dunmail Raise in the south to the outskirts of Keswick in the north, and extends to include the valley of St John's in the Vale in the north east. The neighbouring parishes, listed anti-clockwise, are Lakes in South Lakeland district to the south; Patterdale, Matterdale and Threlkeld in Eden District to the east, the border following the mountain ridge and crossing the summit of Helvellyn; Underskiddaw and Keswick to the north; and Borrowdale to the west.There are 23 grade II listed buildings or structures in the parish including Wythburn Church and St John's Church, St John's in the Vale, and 10 scheduled monuments including Castlerigg stone circle.The village of Wythburn was drowned in the construction of Thirlmere reservoir, completed in 1894, although its church survives.The parish has also been known as Castlerigg St John's and Wythburn, and with various variations of the presence or absence of comma, full stop after "St", and apostrophe.

Wythburn Church is located in an isolated position by the A591 road on the east bank of Thirlmere, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican church in the deanery of Derwent, the archdeaconry of West Cumberland, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of St Mary, Threlkeld, and St John, St John's in the Vale. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The poet William Wordsworth described it as a "modest house of prayer".

Calf Crag is a fell in the English Lake District, on the eastern side of the High Raise massif.

Easedale Tarn is a tarn in the centre of the English Lake District, about two miles west of the village of Grasmere. It lies in a hollow between Tarn Crag to the north and Blea Rigg to the south, about 910 feet or 280 metres above sea level. The hollow was formed by a small corrie glacier, and is believed to have filled with water around 11,000 years ago when the ice finished melting. Easedale Tarn is one of the larger tarns in the district, about 480 metres (1,570 ft) long and 300 metres (980 ft) wide. Its outflow is Sourmilk Gill, named after the milky white colour of its waterfalls, which runs east towards Grasmere. The gill displays impressive water scenery when seen from Grasmere, and from the path to the tarn. The tarn is a popular destination for walkers. Many people climb the path from Grasmere which overlooks Sourmilk Gill. The ascent was popular during the Victorian period, and a refreshment hut was even established in the 19th century by Robert Hayton of Grasmere above the outlet of the tarn to service the thirsty visitors. The hut is long gone, and nettles now grow where the ruins used to be.

Tarn Crag is a fell in the Central Fells of the English Lake District. Strictly the name refers only to the rock face looking down upon Easedale Tarn, but Alfred Wainwright applied it to the entire ridge lying between the Easedale and Far Easedale valleys in his Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells

The Traveller's Rest is a hotel and public house in Grasmere, Cumbria, England. Located on the eastern side of the A591, it is a Grade II listed building dating to the 16th century.An old coaching inn at the foot of Dunmail Raise, the building is two storeys, roughcast over stone rubble with a slate roof. It is in two blocks, stepped down the hillside. The upper block has four 16-paned sash windows on the ground floor and two 12-paned sashes above. The lower block has two doors with modern porches, six sashes on the ground floor and five above, mostly 16-paned.The pub has one of the highest elevations in England, at 1,475 feet (450 m), about 250 feet (76 m) lower than Tan Hill Inn in North Yorkshire. As of 2010, the pub was owned by the Jennings Brewery.

Seat Sandal is a fell in the English Lake District, situated four kilometres (2+1⁄2 miles) north of the village of Grasmere from where it is very well seen. Nevertheless, it tends to be overshadowed by its more illustrious neighbours in the Eastern Fells, Helvellyn and Fairfield.
