Gargunnock railway station

Gargunnock is a small village in the Stirling council area with an active community trust, seven miles (eleven kilometres) west of Stirling, in Scotland. The census population was 912. It is situated on the south edge of the Carse of Stirling, at the foot of the Gargunnock Hills, part of the Campsie Fells. Several small burns flow down from the Gargunnock Hills The last naturally suitable crossing point on the Forth before reaching Stirling Bridge is situated just outside Gargunnock. Thus, coupled with the land condition and drainage around the feet or the Gargunnock hills, made Gargunnock the ideal location to build a farming settlement. During the occupation of Scotland, the English posted a battalion in the Peel tower on the outskirts of the village to protect this important ferry. It is believed that William Wallace brought his army through Gargunnock (called Gargowans at the time), setting up fort on the Kier Hill, to take control of this part of the river in advance of the Battle of Stirling Bridge. Bonnie Prince Charlie is also said to have passed through the village on his travels.

Stirling is a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will be expanded into Strathallan in Perth and Kinross council. As a consequence, it will be renamed Stirling and Strathallan, to be first contested at the next general election.

Kincardine is a civil parish in the Scottish council area of Stirling and the former county of Perthshire in the historic district of Menteith. It lies between the River Teith and River Forth and contains the villages of Blair Drummond and Thornhill. The parish church is 2 miles south-west of Doune. In 1877, the Thornhill part of the parish was erected into a separate parish for ecclesiastic (but not civil) purposes. At the last census (2011), the population of the civil parish was 1,148. The area of the parish is 10,207 acres. Kincardine parish is also a Community Council area under the name Thornhill and Blairdrummond.

Blair Drummond is a small rural community 5 miles (8 kilometres) northwest of Stirling in the Stirling district of Scotland, predominantly located along the A84 road. Lying to the north of the River Forth, the community is within the registration county of Perthshire and the civil parish of Kincardine

The Stirling torcs make up a hoard of four gold Iron Age torcs, a type of necklace, all of which date to between 300 and 100 BC and which were buried deliberately at some point in antiquity. They were found by a metal detectorist in a field near Blair Drummond, Stirlingshire, Scotland on 28 September 2009. The hoard has been described as the most significant discovery of Iron Age metalwork in Scotland and is said to be of international significance. The torcs were valued at £462,000, and after a public appeal were acquired for the National Museums of Scotland in March 2011.

Menteith or Monteith (Scottish Gaelic: Mòine Tèadhaich), a district of south Perthshire, Scotland, roughly comprises the territory between the Teith and the Forth. Earlier forms of its name include Meneted, Maneteth and Meneteth. (Historically, the area between Callander and Dunblane was known in English by the similar name of the “Vale of Menteith”.) Menteith encompasses the parishes of Callander, Aberfoyle, Port of Menteith, Kippen, Kilmadock, Kincardine, Lecropt and Dunblane.

Blair Drummond Safari Park is a family visitor attraction located near Stirling in Scotland. It opened to the public on 15 May 1970 and is home to over 350 animals, many of which roam freely or are kept in large enclosures in the 120-acre (49 ha) estate. The Safari Park is open from mid March until the end of December each year.

The Gargunnock Hills are a range of hills west of the city of Stirling, Scotland. They culminate in the peak of Carleatheran, whose 485-metre (1,591 ft) summit is crowned by a trigonometrical pillar. The Gargunnock Hills are separated from the Fintry Hills to their west by the valley of the Backside Burn. To their east are the Touch Hills, whilst to the south is Carron Valley Reservoir. The hills are defined to the north by a 300-metre (980 ft) craggy escarpment overlooking the glen of the River Forth. At the foot of this scarp are the villages of Gargunnock and Kippen. The hills drain principally to the south; Mary Glyn's Burn and Burnfoot Burn combine with Gourlay's Burn and Backside Burn to form Endrick Water. The waters of Earl's Burn are dammed at two places to form Earlsburn Reservoir No. 1 and Earlsburn Reservoir no. 2. The few streams which fall to the north include Gargunnock Burn which plunges over the scarp at Downie's Loup, and Leckie Burn which flows through Loch Logan and then St. Colm's Glen. Additionally two streams, the Easter Blackspout and the Western Blackspout flow into a reservoir from the hills.
