The Dittaino (Greek: Χρύσας; Latin: Chrysas) is a river of central Sicily which rises in the Heraean Mountains, not far from the modern towns of Gangi and Enna. It is 105 kilometres (65 mi) long. Belpasso (Sicilian: Malupassu, Marpassu or Mappassu) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, located about 150 kilometres (93 mi) southeast of Palermo and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) northwest of Catania. Belpasso is the second biggest comune of the Catania's area for area (after Catania). The original town was destroyed by the lava flows from Mount Etna in 1669. Rebuilt in a lower plain, that habitation was known as Fenice Moncada; the latter name derives from the family of the Princes of Paterno who owned the feud. This habitation proved malarial and was heavily damaged by the 1693 Sicily earthquake, causing the spot to be abandoned and named Malpasso, and the present town was founded in 1695 in lands belonging to the Duke of Montalto.Belpasso is the home to Condorelli, productor of typical Sicilian sweets, exported in all parts of the world, Condorelli is the owner of a bar franchising, mainly located in the Metropolitan City of Catania. Stadio Angelo Massimino (previously known as Stadio Cibali) is a multi-use stadium in Catania, Italy. It is used mostly for football matches and the home of Calcio Catania. The stadium was built in 1935 by architect Raffaele Leone on behalf of the company owned by Antonio Ferro and holds 23,266 people. It was renamed in 2002 after former Catania chairman Angelo Massimino (1927–1996). The Angelo Massimino stadium in Catania, formerly the Cibali stadium from the homonymous Catania district in which it is located (it is still commonly known by this name), is the multi-sports stadium that hosts the home matches of Calcio Catania. It was also the stadium of Atletico Catania and Jolly Componibili Catania, the women's football team that won the 1978 Scudetto. It is among the best known stadiums in Italy.

Mascalucia borders the following municipalities: Belpasso, Catania, Gravina di Catania, Nicolosi, Pedara, San Pietro Clarenza, Tremestieri Etneo. It is also the most populated Comune of Catania's province.

The Porta Garibaldi, originally built as the Porta Ferdinandea or Porta Ferdinanda, is a triumphal arch, built in 1768, located at the end of Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, between the Piazza Palestro and Piazza Crocifisso in the quartiere Fortino of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. It was built to celebrate the marriage of the Bourbon king Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies to the Austrian princess Maria Carolina d'Asburgo-Lorena. The architects of the monument were Francesco Battaglia and Stefano Ittar. The monument is made of alternating white stone from Siracusa and local dark lava blocks. At the top center of the arch is now a clock, surrounded by allegorical symbols, including an eagle and a statue recalling the black elephant u Liotru, symbol of Catania. Originally, instead of a clock, was a marble bust of the Bourbon king. Flanking this tympanum, at the second level are two angels with trumpets. Flanking these are two sculptural depictions of Trophy of arms. Underneath these dsplays of weapons and armor are written two phrases: one says Litteris armatur (armed with letters) and the other Armis decoratur (decorated with arms). On the east side the tympanum shield depicts a phoenix rising with a Latin cartouche stating Melior de cinere surgo (Better I arise from the ashes), which aptly applies to Catania, that has often required rebuilding due to volcanic activity and earthquakes.
