Province of Catania

The Metropolitan City of Catania (Italian: Città metropolitana di Catania) is a metropolitan city in Sicily, southern Italy. Its capital is the city of Catania. It replaced the Province of Catania and comprises the city of Catania and other 57 municipalities (comuni).

Stadio Angelo Massimino (previously known as Stadio Cibali) is a multi-use stadium in Catania, Italy. It is used mostly for football matches and the home of Calcio Catania. The stadium was built in 1935 by architect Raffaele Leone on behalf of the company owned by Antonio Ferro and holds 23,266 people. It was renamed in 2002 after former Catania chairman Angelo Massimino (1927–1996). The Angelo Massimino stadium in Catania, formerly the Cibali stadium from the homonymous Catania district in which it is located (it is still commonly known by this name), is the multi-sports stadium that hosts the home matches of Calcio Catania. It was also the stadium of Atletico Catania and Jolly Componibili Catania, the women's football team that won the 1978 Scudetto. It is among the best known stadiums in Italy.

Scuola Superiore di Catania (SSC) is a learning institute in Italy. It was founded in 1998 following the model of the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania is an academy of fine arts located in Catania, Sicily. It was founded in 1967 and started its activities in January 1968. As of 2013, it was the third academy of fine arts in Italy for number of students.

The Clementi Clinic is a former surgical facility located on Viale Regina Margherita in Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. It is was erected in 1904 and designed by Carlo Sada in a Liberty style (Italian Art Nouveau). It presently houses offices of the Intesa San Paolo bank. The building is remarkable for the large windows in the upper floor used to provide natural light for the surgical suite.

Lago di Nicito was a lake in the Province of Catania, Sicily, Italy. It formed in 406 BC when part of the course of the river Amenano became blocked following an eruption of Etna, and had a circumference of around 6 km with a depth of around 15m. Then, in 1669, a second massive eruption of Etna, and one of the most devastating in history filled the lake up. It received its name from Nike as the lake was renowned for its quality of boat racing.

Sant’Agata al Borgo is a Roman Catholic church in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. The church rises alongside via Etna. In front of the church is the tree-lined Piazza Cavour (once calle Piazza Borgo) with its fountain of Cerere, while south across the piazza rises the church of the Consolazione. The Borgo is one of the original four districts (quartieri) of Catania.

The Orto Botanico dell'Università di Catania (16,000 m²), also known as the Hortus Botanicus Catinensis, is a botanical garden in Catania, Sicily, southern Italy. It is operated by the University of Catania botany department. This institution is a member of BGCI, with international identification code CAT.

The Giardino Bellini (also known as Villa Bellini; English translation: "Bellini Garden") is the oldest urban park of Catania. It occupies 70.942 m².

The Monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena in Catania, Sicily is a former Benedictine monastery, located on Piazza Dante 30 in the city of Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. After the Mafra, this abbey is the second largest Benedictine monastery in Europe. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as a part of Val di Noto World Heritage Site), and houses the Department of Humanities of the University of Catania.
