The Metropolitan City of Catania (Italian: Città metropolitana di Catania) is a metropolitan city in Sicily, southern Italy. Its capital is the city of Catania. It replaced the Province of Catania and comprises the city of Catania and other 57 municipalities (comuni).

The Province of Catania (Italian: Provincia di Catania; Sicilian: Pruvincia di Catania) was a province in the autonomous island region of Sicily in southern Italy. Its capital was the city of Catania. It had an area of 3,552 square kilometres (1,371 sq mi) and a total population of about 1,116,917 as of 31 December 2014.Historically known also as Val di Catania, it included until 1927 a large part of the Province of Enna. It was replaced by the Metropolitan City of Catania starting from 4 August 2015.

The building is remarkable for the large windows in the upper floor used to provide natural light for the surgical suite.

Lago di Nicito was a lake in the Province of Catania, Sicily, Italy. It formed in 406 BC when part of the course of the river Amenano became blocked following an eruption of Etna, and had a circumference of around 6 km with a depth of around 15m. Then, in 1669, a second massive eruption of Etna, and one of the most devastating in history filled the lake up. It received its name from Nike as the lake was renowned for its quality of boat racing.

San Domenico, also called Santa Maria la Grande is a Roman Catholic church and active convent located on piazza San Domenico in the quartiere di Santa Maria la Grande, in Catania, region of Sicily, Italy. The church stands about two blocks north of the church of Sant'Agata la Vetere on via Santa Maddalena. The neoclassical-style, late 17th-century church houses a few prominent altarpieces that survived the 1693 catastrophe in Catania.
