East Sussex

Dallington is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located eight miles (13 km) west of Battle and five miles (8 km) east of Heathfield. The parish church of St Giles is a Grade II* listed building. The unusual tower and spire date from the early 16th century, but the remainder was rebuilt in 1864 by architects Habershon and Brock

Dallington Forest is a 16.1-hectare (40-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) east of Heathfield in East Sussex. The SSSI is part of the larger Dallington Forest.The Willingford Stream has cut through forest, creating a steep sided valley with a warm and moist microclimate and the woodland in the valley is the main feature of the site. In the north beech and oak are dominant, whereas in the south there is very little beech and the main trees are oak, birch and hazel. In the bottom of the valley there are stands of alder.

Ashburnham is a civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England, situated to the west of Battle. It includes the settlements of Brownbread Street and Ponts Green; Ashburnham Forge is also within the parish. Ashburnham shares a parish council with the neighbouring small parish of Penhurst. Ashburnham takes its name from Ashburnham Place, now a Christian conference and prayer centre, which in turn comes from the fact that the local stream is the Ashbourne. The 14th century parish church, dedicated to St Peter, was rebuilt in 1665. The village was in the iron making district of the Weald, and its blast furnace was the last in Sussex to be closed in 1813. Ashburnham and neighbouring Penhurst, neither of which have many dwellings, were united in 1810. The parish has a population of 303 (2001 census).

Warbleton Priory was a medieval monastic house in East Sussex, England. The current house is a Grade II* listed building.

Brightling is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located on the Weald eight miles (13 km) north-west of Battle and four miles (6 km) west of Robertsbridge. The village lies in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and due to its vantage point commands views in all directions. The village pub used to be The Green Man on the corner opposite the church, dedicated to St. Thomas Becket, but it is said that as part of the arrangements to build 'The Pyramid' Jack Fuller caused the pub to be relocated about three miles (5 km) towards Robertsbridge at Oxley's Green. The parish includes outlying hamlets Cackle Street, Hollingrove, Oxley's Green and Twelve Oaks. Brightling, Hollingrove and Cackle Street all had their own shop with a post office in Brightling itself. These have all closed with the passing of time. Also in the parish is Brightling Down (197 m), the local vantage point topped by 'The Needle' and used as a beacon point hence Brightling Beacon. The most obvious 'industry' in the area is agriculture yet well hidden is the Gypsum mine with conveyor to the Mountfield plaster board processing plant. There is an annual horse trials run at Brightling Park (formerly Rose Hill).

Willingford Meadows is a 10.5-hectare (26-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-west of Burwash in East Sussex.These species-rich meadows are traditionally managed by grazing and mowing. Grassland types range from calcareous to acid and they are the only unimproved pastures on Jurassic limestone in the county. There is also a stream, a marsh, an area of overgrown hornbeam coppice and a mature hazel and hawthorn hedge.The meadows are crossed by footpaths.

Bodle Street Green is a small village in the civil parish of Warbleton, in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. Its nearest town is Hailsham, which lies approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) south-west from the village.

Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are designated by local authorities under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. The local authority must have a legal control over the site, by owning or leasing it or having an agreement with the owner. LNRs are sites which have a special local interest either biologically or geologically, and local authorities have a duty to care for them. They can apply local byelaws to manage and protect LNRs.East Sussex is a county in South East England. It is bordered by Kent to the north-east, West Sussex to the west, Surrey to the north and the English Channel to the south. It has an area of 1,725 km2 (666.0 sq mi) and a population as of 2018 of 552,000.As of July 2019, there are 26 LNRs in East Sussex. Ten sites are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, three are Special Protection Areas, three are Special Areas of Conservation, one is a Ramsar site, two are Scheduled Monuments, two are Geological Conservation Review sites, one is a Nature Conservation Review site and six are managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.

In England, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are designated by Natural England, which is responsible for protecting England's natural environment. Designation as an SSSI gives legal protection to the most important wildlife and geological sites. As of March 2019, there are 65 sites designated in East Sussex, 45 of which have been designated for their biological interest, 15 for their geological interest, and 5 for both biological and geological interest.Six sites are Special Areas of Conservation, two are Special Protection Areas, two are Ramsar sites, twenty are Geological Conservation Review sites, ten are Nature Conservation Review sites, five are national nature reserves, ten are local nature reserves, six are in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, two are on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and three contain scheduled monuments. Nine sites are managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust and one by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. East Sussex is a county in South East England. It is bordered by Kent to the north-east, West Sussex to the west, Surrey to the north and the English Channel to the south. It has an estimated population of 757,600 within an area of 1,795 km2 (443,554.2 acres), therefore making it the 28th largest ceremonial county in the United Kingdom.

Penhurst is a village and civil parish, sharing a parish council with neighbouring Ashburnham, in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located on the Weald, 4 miles (7km) west of Battle. The parish touches Ashburnham, Battle, Brightling and Catsfield. Penhurst shares a parish council with Ashburnham. The parish has few residents, according to the 2001 census Penhurst has just 52 inhabitants.

Ashburnham Place is an English country house, now used as a Christian conference and prayer centre, five miles west of Battle, East Sussex. It was one of the finest houses in the southeast of England in its heyday, but much of the structure was demolished in 1959, and only a drastically reduced part of the building now remains standing.

Bateman's is a 17th-century house located in Burwash, East Sussex, England. It was the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902 until his death in 1936. The house was built in 1634. Kipling's widow Caroline bequeathed the house to the National Trust on her death in 1939. The house is a Grade I listed building.
