Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are designated by local authorities under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. The local authority must have a legal control over the site, by owning or leasing it or having an agreement with the owner. LNRs are sites which have a special local interest either biologically or geologically, and local authorities have a duty to care for them. They can apply local byelaws to manage and protect LNRs.East Sussex is a county in South East England. It is bordered by Kent to the north-east, West Sussex to the west, Surrey to the north and the English Channel to the south. It has an area of 1,725 km2 (666.0 sq mi) and a population as of 2018 of 552,000.As of July 2019, there are 26 LNRs in East Sussex. Ten sites are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, three are Special Protection Areas, three are Special Areas of Conservation, one is a Ramsar site, two are Scheduled Monuments, two are Geological Conservation Review sites, one is a Nature Conservation Review site and six are managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.

In England, Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are designated by Natural England, which is responsible for protecting England's natural environment. Designation as an SSSI gives legal protection to the most important wildlife and geological sites. As of March 2019, there are 65 sites designated in East Sussex, 45 of which have been designated for their biological interest, 15 for their geological interest, and 5 for both biological and geological interest.Six sites are Special Areas of Conservation, two are Special Protection Areas, two are Ramsar sites, twenty are Geological Conservation Review sites, ten are Nature Conservation Review sites, five are national nature reserves, ten are local nature reserves, six are in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, two are on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and three contain scheduled monuments. Nine sites are managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust and one by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. East Sussex is a county in South East England. Windmill Hill is a village in the civil parish of Herstmonceux, in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. In 2020 it had an estimated population of 585.

Windmill Hill Mill is a grade II* listed post mill at Herstmonceux, Sussex, England which has been restored and now operates as a working mill. The mill is open to the public on most Sundays from Easter until October.

Herstmonceux Free Church is a congregational chapel located in Herstmonceux, East Sussex. It was initially constructed at its site on Chapel Row in 1811. The church is a member of the Congregational Federation and has an active membership of around 40 people. The building is grade II listed by English Heritage as a building of special architectural or historical interest.

Herstmonceux ( HURSS-mən-ZOO, -⁠SOO; howss-MOWN-seez) is a village and civil parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex, England, which includes Herstmonceux Castle. The Herstmonceux Medieval Festival is held annually in August.

Herstmonceux Park is a 4.3-hectare (11-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Herstmonceux in East Sussex.This narrow stream valley has seven examples of wetland habitats on Tunbridge Wells sandstone and it is notable for its fen vegetation. The site is the location of two plants which are rare in south-east England, milk-parsley and Cornish moneywort. There are several artificial ponds which have a variety of aquatic plant species.A public footpath runs through the site

Ashburnham is a civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England, situated to the west of Battle. It includes the settlements of Brownbread Street and Ponts Green; Ashburnham Forge is also within the parish. Ashburnham shares a parish council with the neighbouring small parish of Penhurst. Ashburnham takes its name from Ashburnham Place, now a Christian conference and prayer centre, which in turn comes from the fact that the local stream is the Ashbourne. The 14th century parish church, dedicated to St Peter, was rebuilt in 1665. The village was in the iron making district of the Weald, and its blast furnace was the last in Sussex to be closed in 1813. Ashburnham and neighbouring Penhurst, neither of which have many dwellings, were united in 1810. The parish has a population of 303 (2001 census).

Warbleton Priory was a medieval monastic house in East Sussex, England. The current house is a Grade II* listed building.

Boreham Street is a small village in the Wealden district of East Sussex, England. Its nearest towns are Hailsham, which lies approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of the village and Battle, which lies approximately 6.5 miles (10.5 km) to the east. A number of listed buildings line the village high street. Boreham Street sits atop a ridge with views south over the Pevensey Levels towards Normans Bay and the coast and to the north over open farmland. Boreham Street has the 'Bull's Head' public house and Scolfe's restaurant/tea rooms. The village hall, Reid Hall, holds local events.

Herstmonceux Place is an 18th-century country house in Herstmonceux, East Sussex, England. It was divided into apartments in the 1950s. The house stands within a 148 hectares (370 acres) shared estate with Herstmonceux Castle. Herstmonceux Place is a Grade I listed building.The gardens and parks of Herstmonceux Place and Castle are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

England's Medieval Festival is a medieval-themed festival held over the August bank holiday at, Herstmonceux Castle in Sussex, England. Held over three days, the festival features jousting, falconry, knights battles, medieval camping, traditional and modern folk music, medieval banqueting, re-enactments, battles, horses, theatre, crafts, workshops, shopping, medieval food, drink and real ale. The first medieval festival was held in 1993 as a celebration of the new ownership by Queen's University, and received several hundred guests. Later festivals have been attended by audiences of several thousand. England's Medieval Festival celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2017 supported by local and national societies including The Archers of Herstmonceux Castle, the Medieval Siege Society re-enactment group, Sussex Falconry and the Pentacle Drummers. In 2022, the Festival was cancelled due to the Castle's owners withdrawing permission for its use.
