Saravali

Achaia Clauss is a Greek winery located in Patras in the Peloponnese. It was founded in 1861 by the Bavarian Gustav Clauss. It is most famous for its fortified red wine, Mavrodaphne. The winery was the main sponsor of the local basketball team, Apollon Achaia Clauss.

Sidirokastro (Greek: Σιδηρόκαστρο literally "the iron castle") was a castle in Achaea, Greece, situated between the villages Krini and Kallithea. It is located on one of the foothills of the Panachaiko, the Omplos, near the Omblos Monastery in Zoitada. Little remains of the castle. It is unknown when exactly it was built, most likely by the Franks of the Principality of Achaea. It was used for the defense of Patras, around which the Venetians had built many small castle-fortresses. It was first mentioned in a list of castles of Achaea in 1364. Nothing is known about its history, although it was situated in a strategical location next to the old road to Kalavryta, known as the Makelarias Road. It is believed that the iron gate of the Omplos Monastery is originally from the castle. The name "Sidirokastro" comes from the slate stones in the vicinity, that are called "sideropetra" ("iron stones") by the locals.

Krini is a village in the Patras municipality.

Omplos (Greek: Ομπλός) is a mountain in Achaea, Greece. It rises steeply from the coastal plains around Patras to 926 m elevation. It is separated from the higher mountain Panachaikos by the valley of the river Glafkos. The summit is 2 km west of the village Petroto, 4 km east of Kallithea, 4 km southeast of Saravali and 10 km southeast of Patras city centre. The Omplos Monastery is situated on the mountain, at about 740 m elevation. Paragliding is commonly practiced on the mountain since the 1990s, and championships have been held.

The Hellenic Open University (HOU; Greek: Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο) was founded in 1992 in Patras and is the only online/distance learning university in Greece. Modelled on the British Open University, the Hellenic Open University was established to fill a gap for telematic and distance education in the higher education system of the Hellenic Republic in response to the growing demand for continuing education and lifelong learning.It is the first and only higher education institution (HEI) in Greece that provides open and distance education at undergraduate and postgraduate as well as doctoral level. Placing great emphasis on research, HOU promotes research programmes aiming towards the development of methodologies and corresponding high technologies for open and distance learning.

Demenika (Greek: Δεμένικα) is a village/suburb in the municipality of Patras, Achaea, Greece. It lies 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) south of the city centre, south of the river Glafkos. It is part of the community of Saravali within the municipal unit of Messatida. It is 2 km northeast of Ovrya and 4 km east of Paralia. The population was 2,783 in 2011. The Greek National Road 33 (Patras - Tripoli) passes through the village, and the new Greek National Road 9 (Patras - Pyrgos) passes south of the village.

Apollon Patras Indoor Hall, also known as Perivola Indoor Hall, is an indoor sports arena that is located in Patras, Greece. The arena is known for its unique roof construction, which is made entirely out of wood. The arena belongs to the local multi-sporting club, A.S. Apollon, and it is the home of the club's professional basketball (Apollon Patras) and volleyball teams. The arena has a seating capacity of 3,500 people. The arena also includes an exercise and weight training room, a sauna, a reception area, a press interview room, and a separate practice facility.

Messatida (Greek: Μεσσάτιδα) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Patras, of which it is a municipal unit. The seat of the municipality was in Ovrya. It is located south of Patras city centre, and stretches from the urbanized plains near the Gulf of Patras to the Omplos hills in the east. The population was 13,852 in 2011. It has an area of 66.366 km².Messatida was named after the ancient Achaean town Mesatis, according to local legend the place where Dionysus was reared.

Ovrya (Greek: Οβρυά) is a town in Achaea, Greece. It is a suburb of Patras, located 6 km south of Patras city centre. It was the seat of the former municipality of Messatida. The Greek National Roads 9 (Patras - Pyrgos) and 33 (Patras - Tripoli) pass through the town. Ovrya is in the transition zone from the densely populated coastal area to the hills in the southeast, including Omplos. Agriculture (olive groves, pastures) is still the dominant land use in the areas south and east of Ovrya. Neighboring communities are Demenika to the northeast, Mintilogli to the west, Krini to the east, and Kallithea to the south.

Petroto (Greek: Πετρωτό) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Messatida, Patras, Achaea, Greece. The community consists of the villages Petroto, Mavromandila and Agia Paraskevi. Mavromandila is by far the largest village of the community (pop. 462 in 2001), and is also referred to as Petroto. Mavromandila is located 6 km southeast of Patras city centre, just outside the Patras beltway (Greek National Road 9). The small mountain villages Petroto and Agia Paraskevi are located resp. 5 and 9 km southeast from Mavromandila, to the east and southeast of Omplos mountain. The renowned Achaia Clauss winery is situated in Mavromandila.

Neo Souli (Greek: Νέο Σούλι) is a village and a community in the municipality of Patras, Achaea, Greece. Neo Souli had a population of 756 in 2011 for the village proper, and 847 for the community Souli, which consists of the villages Neo Souli, Agios Ioannis, Kefalovryso, Mintzaiika, Panagia and Profitis Ilias. Souli was part of the municipality of Patras between 1841 and 1912, and again after 1997. Between 1912 and 1997, it was an independent community.

Begoulaki (Greek: Μπεγουλάκι) is the popular name of a neighbourhood in the city of Patras. The name is originally derived from Bey Ulak, a Turkish landlord who lived in the area during the Ottoman period. Today, the official name is Myloi (Μύλοι) even though other people kept the toponym Begoulaki. The current neighborhood was named "Myloi" before the Ottoman era, but the Byzantine chronographer G. Frantzis referred to it as "Mylous". The area was made into a military base by Constantine XI Paleologus during his siege of Patras as the despot of Mystras. It was also the place where Constantine married his first wife. Shortly after the Greek Revolution, the area had many mills from which it received its name. The Roufos family lived in the area, as well as members from the Kollas clan.
