The High Road Bridge is a road bridge over Long Run Creek in Lockport Township, Illinois. It is the world's first road bridge built using the hybrid composite beams (also known as Hillman-Composite Beam) (HCB's) invented by John R. Hillman and developed by the HC Bridge Company LLC. The HCB's are stronger, lighter and more corrosion resistant than the traditional concrete or steel beams. The HCB beam with a life span of 80 to 100 years and with minimal or no maintenance to the bridge girders is a cost competitive alternative to steel and concrete beam. It was designed by Teng & Associates and constructed by Herlihy Mid-Continent Company in 2008. The 17.4 m (57 ft) long, single-span bridge consists of six HCBs supporting a conventional 20 cm (8 in) thick reinforced concrete deck.

Bonnie Brae is a census-designated place (CDP) in Will County, Illinois, United States. It is in the northern part of the county and is bordered to the north, east, and south by the city of Lockport. It is 2 miles (3 km) northeast of the center of Lockport and 7 miles (11 km) north-northeast of Joliet. Bonnie Brae was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census.

Romeoville is a station on Metra's Heritage Corridor at the intersection of 135th Street and New Avenue in Romeoville, Illinois. As of 2018, Romeoville is the 170th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 148 weekday boardings. As of April 2022, Romeoville is currently the newest station in the Metra system. As of 2022, Romeoville is served by three inbound trains in the morning and three outbound trains in the evening on weekdays only. Romeoville village trustees approved an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the construction of a new Metra station on the corner of 135th Street and New Avenue on January 7, 2015. The agreement specified that the village of Romeoville would dedicate $550,000 from its Motor Fuel Tax Fund to the project. The state of Illinois would then reimburse the village through a $440,000 Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant, which would cover 80 percent of the cost. On October 19, 2016, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Romeoville Metra station was selected to receive a $296,700 grant as a part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program. The funds were to help pay for sidewalks, platforms, and a warming shelter in addition to the construction of a nearby access road, and the completion of a multi-use path south of 135th Street with lighting. Construction began in May 2017. The station opened on February 5, 2018.Previously the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway operated a station which served Romeoville.

Lockport is a city in Will County, Illinois, United States, located 30 miles southwest of Chicago. Per the 2020 census, the population was 26,094. The city was incorporated in 1853. It is situated along the Illinois and Michigan (I&M) Canal, and was the headquarters of the canal when the canal was operating. A section of the canal runs through Lockport, including the remains of the canal's Lock No. 1 from which the town received its name. The canal right-of-way is now the Illinois and Michigan National Heritage Corridor.

Lockport Township High School (LTHS) is a public high school in Lockport, Illinois, United States. In addition to the city of Lockport and Lockport Township, Lockport Township High School also serves the communities of Homer Glen, most of Crest Hill, a section of unincorporated Orland Park and Homer Township. Over 3,900 students are enrolled in grades 9 through 12.

On July 23, 1984, an explosion and fire took place at a Union Oil Lemont Refinery in Romeoville, Illinois, outside Chicago, killing 17 people and causing major property damage. The explosive force propelled the upper portion 14 metres (46 ft) of the vessel a distance of 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) from its original location, while the base remained at the center of the resultant fire.

Lemont Refinery is an oil refinery in Romeoville, Illinois owned and operated by Citgo Petroleum Corporation. Originally constructed in the early 1920s, it was reconstructed between 1968 and 1970 by its then owner Union Oil and has a current crude processing capacity of 177,000 barrels per day. The refinery was the site of the 1984 Romeoville petroleum refinery disaster in which 17 people were killed. The facility includes the following major units: one atmospheric distillation unit, one vacuum distillation unit, one fluid catalytic cracking unit, two catalytic reforming units, one alkylation unit, hydrodesulfurization units, and two coker units.

The Robert Milne House is a historic residence in Lockport, Illinois, United States. It was home to Robert Milne, Canal Commissioner of the Illinois and Michigan Canal.

Romeoville station, known as Romeo on timetables, was an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station in the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, Illinois. The station was located near the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Freight trains still pass by the site of the old station, on the double track Southern Transcon Line. Metra had plans for a new Romeoville station on the Heritage Corridor since the early 21st Century. The station and accompanying parking would be located on the property belonging to the Citgo oil refinery between Lemont and Lockport. In May 2017, Metra went ahead with the plans when they broke ground for the new station in Romeoville. The new Romeoville station opened on February 3, 2018.

The Will County Historical Society Headquarters is a historic building in Lockport, Illinois, United States, originally known as the Illinois and Michigan Canal Office Building. It served as the headquarters of the Canal Commission of the Illinois and Michigan Canal from 1836 until 1871, when control of the canal was transferred to the state.

The Gaylord Building, constructed in 1838 in the downtown historic district of Lockport, Illinois, and on the canalside there, played a pivotal role in the construction of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. It is on the United States National Register of Historic Places, and is one of 29 Historic Sites of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It is constructed of yellow limestone, a common construction material in north central Illinois. It has an Italianate three story addition added in 1859. After falling into disrepair, it was the focus of a concerted restoration and preservation effort that began in 1983, which was later noted as setting a model for such efforts.

The Lockport Historic District, also known as the Canal and Downtown Area, is a set of fifty-nine buildings in Lockport, Illinois. Of these, fifty-six contribute to the historical integrity of the area.
