The Süderelbe (German: ['zyːdɐˌʔɛlbə] (listen)) (Southern Elbe) is the biggest anabranch of the Unterelbe river in the area which is now the Port of Hamburg, Germany. Its natural flow path was redirected through the Köhlbrand.

Altenwerder (German pronunciation ) is a quarter in the Harburg borough of the Free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg in northern Germany. The former village on an Elbe island became a port expansion area in the 1960s. In the 1970s the city of Hamburg announced the formal dispossession of all property to build the Container Terminal Altenwerder. Only the Altenwerder church remains from the old buildings. The terminal started its operation in 2003. Today, Altenwerder is a quarter almost without population. In 2017 the population was 3.

The Köhlbrand Bridge (German: Köhlbrandbrücke) is a cable-stayed bridge in Hamburg, Germany, which connects the harbor area on the island of Wilhelmsburg between the Norderelbe and Süderelbe branches of the Elbe river with motorway 7 (exit Waltershof). It bridges the Süderelbe, here called Köhlbrand, before it unites with the Norderelbe again. The bridge was opened on 9 September 1974.

Duckdalben – International Seamen’s Club is the name of the seamen’s club founded in 1986 in the Port of Hamburg by the Deutsche Seemannsmission Hamburg-Harburg e. V. Every year, around 35,000 seafarers from more than 100 countries are offered practical help and orientation in what is for them a foreign port. Duckdalben is named after the mooring pilings called Dalben (Engl.: dolphins). In 2011 it was named the world’s best seamen’s club.

She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 4 June 1944 at AG Weser, Bremen as yard number 1163. She was launched on 26 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Kapitänleutnant Helmut Thurmann, on 30 August 1944.

She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 23 May 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, as yard number 2505. She was launched on 27 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Joachim Düppe, on 7 November 1944.

The submarine was laid down on 21 December 1942 at the Howaldtswerke yard at Hamburg, launched on 7 March 1944, and commissioned on 17 April 1944 under the command of Leutnant zur See d.R. Sven Thienemann.

German submarine U-2501 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. The submarine was laid down on 3 April 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, launched on 12 May 1944, and commissioned on 27 June 1944 under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Otto Hübschen, who commanded her for her entire career.U-2501 conducted no patrols, and was scuttled at 07:08 on 3 May 1945 at Hamburg. She suffered no casualties to her crew during her short career.
