The Köhlbrand Bridge (German: Köhlbrandbrücke) is a cable-stayed bridge in Hamburg, Germany, which connects the harbor area on the island of Wilhelmsburg between the Norderelbe and Süderelbe branches of the Elbe river with motorway 7 (exit Waltershof). It bridges the Süderelbe, here called Köhlbrand, before it unites with the Norderelbe again. The bridge was opened on 9 September 1974.

The HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) in Hamburg, Germany currently is one of the most modern container terminals in the world, located in the Altenwerder quarter. It is owned by the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) (74.9%) and Hapag-LLoyd AG shipping lines (25.1%) and lies to the south of Hamburg on the river Elbe. The terminal, opened in 2001, spreads on a surface of 983,500 square metres (10,586,306 sq ft) and has the capacity of approx. 3 Mill. TEU annually. Right now, 2.4 Millions TEU capacity is used. With 1,400 metres (4,593 ft) long quay wall of the CTA is enough to load and empty up to four container ships, including larger ships of the next generation. Maximum draught is 16.7 metres (55 ft), where the quay wall has a height of 7.5 metres (25 ft) over NN (Above mean sea level). With 12 millions M3 sand heaped up, a height difference between dock edge and base of the Elbe river of 24 metres (79 ft) created. The centric container area with a capacity of 30.000 TEU takes the largest part of the surface with connections for cooltainers. The area is served by 22 pairs of cranes and 53 vehicles. The characteristic of the terminal is the nearly fully automated operational sequence.

The Süderelbe (German: ['zyːdɐˌʔɛlbə] (listen)) (Southern Elbe) is the biggest anabranch of the Unterelbe river in the area which is now the Port of Hamburg, Germany. Its natural flow path was redirected through the Köhlbrand.

German submarine U-3004 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 4 June 1944 at AG Weser, Bremen as yard number 1163. She was launched on 26 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Kapitänleutnant Helmut Thurmann, on 30 August 1944.

German submarine U-2505 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 23 May 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, as yard number 2505. She was launched on 27 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Joachim Düppe, on 7 November 1944.

The Norderelbe (German pronunciation ) (Northern Elbe) is one of the two big anabranches of the Unterelbe river in the area which is now the Port of Hamburg, Germany. The other anabranch is the Süderelbe. Together they form the island of Wilhelmsburg.

German submarine U-682 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 21 December 1942 at the Howaldtswerke yard at Hamburg, launched on 7 March 1944, and commissioned on 17 April 1944 under the command of Leutnant zur See d.R. Sven Thienemann.

German submarine U-2501 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II. The submarine was laid down on 3 April 1944 at the Blohm & Voss yard at Hamburg, launched on 12 May 1944, and commissioned on 27 June 1944 under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Otto Hübschen, who commanded her for her entire career.U-2501 conducted no patrols, and was scuttled at 07:08 on 3 May 1945 at Hamburg. She suffered no casualties to her crew during her short career.

Duckdalben – International Seamen’s Club is the name of the seamen’s club founded in 1986 in the Port of Hamburg by the Deutsche Seemannsmission Hamburg-Harburg e. V. Every year, around 35,000 seafarers from more than 100 countries are offered practical help and orientation in what is for them a foreign port. Duckdalben is named after the mooring pilings called Dalben (Engl.: dolphins). In 2011 it was named the world’s best seamen’s club.

Kohlenschiffhafen (Coal ship harbour) is a harbour basin of the port of Hamburg, Germany, connected with the Norderelbe anabranch of River Elbe. It is located between the promontories of Köhlbrandhöft to the west and Tollerort to the east. It marks the former mouth of the Köhlbrand anabranch into the Norderelbe.

The New Elbe Tunnel (German: Neuer Elbtunnel), often simply called Elbtunnel, is a subterranean Elbe River crossing in northern Germany located in Hamburg.

Steinwerder (German "stein" stone, "werder" (archaic) island or peninsula, translation "stone peninsula") is a quarter of Hamburg, Germany in the borough Hamburg-Mitte on the southern bank of the river Elbe. It is a primarily maritime industrial location, with a resident population in 2017 of only 39. Local landmarks include two music theatres, the Steinwerder ends of the Old Elbtunnel and Köhlbrand Bridge, and the shipyard of Blohm+Voss in which the old Pilot House still stands. Until 1946, the name was written as Steinwärder. (See also German wikipedia). It seems to have lent this name to a ship built in 1848 in Altona (on the opposite side of the harbour). This ship was notable for 5 migration voyages from Hamburg to Port Adelaide between 1849 and 1863, after which it was sold and renamed.
