Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology

The Max Planck Institute for Ornithology was a non-university research institution under the sponsorship of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG). As of January 1st 2023, it merged with the Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology to form the new Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence. The institute is located in Seewiesen, which belongs to the municipality of Pöcking in Upper Bavaria. The institute’s focus was on basic scientific research in the fields of organismic biology, zoology, ornithology, neurobiology, behavioural ecology, evolutionary biology and evolutionary genetics. The institute is managed on a collegial basis, i.e. one of the two directors of the institute takes over the management for a certain time period. The last managing director was Manfred Gahr (2020 - 2022).

Andechs is a municipality in the district of Starnberg in Bavaria in Germany. It is renowned in Germany and beyond for Andechs Abbey, a Benedictine monastery that has brewed beer since 1455. The monastery brewery offers tours to visitors. The 20th century German composer Carl Orff is buried in the chapel of Andechs Abbey.This town was the capital of one of the States of the Counts of Andechs, one of the most important families in Europe.

Herrsching am Ammersee is a municipality in Upper Bavaria, Germany, on the east shore of the Ammersee, southwest of Munich. The population is around 8,000 in winter, increasing to 13,000 in summer. Prior to the Second World War, Herrsching was home to the Hersching Business School (Reichsfinanzschule Hersching). From 1945 to 1946, the school was converted into a POW hospital and rehab facility for soldiers who had lost limbs.

Feldafing displaced persons camp in Bavaria was the first DP camp exclusively for use by liberated Jewish concentration camp prisoners. It was later used by Jewish refugees from the Russian-controlled Jewish areas. The camp was located in Feldafing's Höhenberg area and beyond.

Pöcking is a municipality in the district of Starnberg in Bavaria in Germany. Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, consort of Emperor Franz Josef I of Austria-Hungary, grew up here in the Possenhofen Castle as daughter of Duke Max in Bavaria and Princess Ludovika of Bavaria.
