The Domesday Book shows that in 1086 the settlement formed part of the estates of Bath Abbey under the lordship of a Walter Hussey, and consisted of nine households and a mill, with 10 acres of meadow and 10 of pasture.Wilmington Farm, adjacent to the hamlet, is a cattle farm of 320 acres owned by the Duchy of Cornwall.

The Alfred Jewel is a piece of Anglo-Saxon goldsmithing work made of enamel and quartz enclosed in gold. It was discovered in 1693, in North Petherton, Somerset, England and is now one of the most popular exhibits at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. It has been dated to the late 9th century, in the reign of Alfred the Great, and is inscribed "AELFRED MEC HEHT GEWYRCAN", meaning "Alfred ordered me made". The jewel was once attached to a rod, probably of wood, at its base. After decades of scholarly discussion, it is now "generally accepted" that the jewel's function was to be the handle for a pointer stick for following words when reading a book. It is an exceptional and unusual example of Anglo-Saxon jewellery.

Dunkerton railway station served the village of Dunkerton, Somerset, England from 1910 to 1925. It was constructed as part of the extension of the original Bristol and North Somerset Railway Camerton branch line, carried out by the Great Western Railway between 1906 and 1910. The Anglican Church of St Lawrence in Stanton Prior, Somerset, England, has its origins in the 12th century but is mainly 15th century. The church has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building.The church has a 3-stage tower, supported by diagonal buttresses with polygonal stair turret on the north east corner.In 1860 a major restoration was undertaken and it was found that the nave and chancel were the same height, which had been obscured since the insertion of windows, raising of the walls and erection of the open timber roof during the Perpendicular Period.It is within the benefice of Farmborough, Marksbury and Stanton Prior, Corston and Newton St Loe, and in the Archdeaconry of Bath.

Stanton Prior is a small village within the civil parish of Marksbury, in the Bath and North East Somerset district, in the ceremonial county of Somerset, England. It is set in Duchy of Cornwall countryside between Newton St Loe and Marksbury, 6 miles (9.7 km) west from the UK city of Bath. In 1931 the parish had a population of 85. On 1 April 1933 the parish was abolished and merged with Marksbury.Stanton Prior derives its name from the Old English 'Stantona' (meaning Stone Town) and is reputed to be one of the smallest villages in Somerset, consisting of two farms, 21 houses and the Church of St Lawrence, which has its origins in the 12th century but is mainly 15th century and underwent heavy restoration in 1860. The church has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building.The village was the property of Saxon Kings who gave it to Bath Abbey before the Norman Conquest and it was held by the Prior until the dissolution of the monasteries. It was then granted to Thomas Horner, who sold it to General Erington in 1544. The parish of Stanton Prior was part of the Keynsham Hundred.Close by, on Stantonbury Hill, are the remains of an Iron Age hill fort known as Stantonbury Camp, which lies on the line of Wansdyke. Stanton is home to a rare chain pump, albeit without its chain.
