It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Simplon line of Swiss Federal Railways and the terminus of three 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge lines operated by Transports Publics du Chablais: the Aigle–Leysin, Aigle–Ollon–Monthey–Champéry, and Aigle–Sépey–Diablerets lines.

Collombey railway station (French: Gare de Collombey, German: Bahnhof Collombey) is a railway station in the municipality of Collombey-Muraz, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the Saint-Gingolph–Saint-Maurice line and is served by local trains only. The tracks of the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Aigle–Ollon–Monthey–Champéry line cross over the Saint-Gingolph–Saint-Maurice line north of the station. Two stations on the Aigle–Ollon–Monthey–Champéry line, Collombey-Muraz and Corbier, are each located about 230 metres (750 ft) from Collombey.

The 1584 Aigle earthquake occurred on 11 March at 23:00–23:30 local time in Switzerland. The earthquake had a moment magnitude of 5.9–6.4 and maximum Modified Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe). The shock generated a tsunami in Lake Geneva. It was followed by 25 aftershocks in the following days. An aftershock on 14 March triggered a large rockslide that killed 320 people.

Collombey-Muraz is a municipality in the district of Monthey in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. There was an oil refinery in the town.

Leysin is a municipality of the canton of Vaud in the Aigle district of Switzerland. It is first mentioned around 1231–32 as Leissins, in 1352 as Leisins.Located in the Vaud Alps, Leysin is a sunny alpine resort village at the eastern end of Lake Geneva in proximity to Montreux, Lausanne, and Geneva. In earlier years, Leysin was known for its TB sanatorias; today it is most famous for spectacular Alpine views across the Rhône Valley towards the Dents du Midi and year-round mountain sports and recreational facilities. The village of Leysin and hamlet of Veyges are a designated part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.

Monthey railway station (French: Gare de Monthey, German: Bahnhof Monthey) is a railway station in the municipality of Monthey, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the Saint-Gingolph–Saint-Maurice line and is served by local trains only. Monthey is one of four stations located in the municipality; the other three are on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Aigle–Ollon–Monthey–Champéry line. The nearest of these is Monthey Ville, is 700 metres (2,300 ft) to the west.
