Due to its modest height (by alpine standards) it is a relatively easy mountain to climb, but due to its great prominence it provides a good view across the lakes, and over to the High Alps; mountains as far away as Finsteraarhorn, Dom and Monte Leone can be seen on a clear day.

Between 1873 and 1939, Porlezza was linked to Menaggio, on Lake Como, by the Menaggio–Porlezza railway, a steam hauled narrow gauge line built as part of a multi-modal transport link between Menaggio and Luino, on Lake Maggiore.

As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 833 and an area of 17.0 square kilometres (6.6 sq mi).Plesio borders the following municipalities: Cremia, Garzeno, Grandola ed Uniti, Menaggio, San Siro.

Mezzegra is a former comune (municipality) in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy. Since 21 January 2014 it is part of the comune of Tremezzina.

Tremezzina (Comasco: Tremezéna [tremeˈdzena]) is a comune in the province of Como, in Lombardy, that formed on 25 May 2014 from a merger of the comunes of Lenno, Mezzegra, Ossuccio and Tremezzo. A referendum to create this comune was held on 1 December 2013. The referendum was passed with 63% yes and 37% no votes. The comune of Tremezzina was previously created in 1928 over Lenno, Mezzegra and Tremezzo, and divided into the separate comunes in 1947.
