House of Memsie

Memsie Cairn is an ancient cairn in Memsie, near Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Historic Scotland believe the burial cairn to be from the Bronze Age. It is an ancient historic monument managed by Historic Scotland.

Memsie, Aberdeenshire, is a small community near Fraserburgh, Scotland. On Memsie Moor there is a very large stone cairn, Memsie Cairn, which has been opened, but nothing found inside. There were two other cairns, but they have been removed. Apart from the cairn, Memsie is near Mormond Hill, which was a very large listening post in the Cold War. These days the former listening post is used for satellite communications. The nearest Kirk to Memsie is in Rathen. The House of Memsie is located east of the A981 to the south of the community.

Rathen is a parish and hamlet near Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In Scottish Gaelic, its name means fort on the river. On the coast is Cairnbulg Point, flanking the eastern side of Fraserburgh Bay. Mormond Hill (769 feet (234 m)) sits on the borders of Rathen, Strichen and Lonmay. Rathen Burn runs through the parish for three miles. The old kirk, St Ethernan's, is one of the most ancient in Aberdeenshire. The church was given, by Marjory, Countess of Buchan, to Arbroath Abbey in the 13th century. In 1328, Robert the Bruce, a year before his death, granted it to the college and canons of Old Machar. A sundial was added in the kirkyard in 1625, and the church's nave was erected by the Frasers of Memsie in 1646. While the belfry dates from 1782, its bell has the inscription Peter Jansen, 1643. Also in the kirkyard are the burials of the great great grandparents of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. The church was replaced in 1868 by a new construction, designed by William Smith, to the east of its predecessor. There is also a free church, Inverallochy and Rathen East Church, two miles northeast of Rathen. At the end of the 19th century, the main residence was Mormond House (formerly Cortese House), with House of Memsie being used as a farmhouse. Rathen railway station formerly existed as part of the now-defunct Formartine and Buchan Railway.

Mormond Hill (from Gaelic Mórmhonadh, "big hill") is a broad eminence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, not far from Fraserburgh. Its twin summits reach heights of 754 feet (230 m) and 767 feet (234 m); the higher of the two is known as Waughton Hill. The hill is surrounded by the low-lying arable region known as Buchan. At its foot are the villages of Strichen and New Leeds. The hill is mentioned in the folk song "Mormond Braes", about a girl from "Strichen toon" who resolves to make a better match after her lover jilts her.

Fraserburgh United Football Club is a Scottish football club from the town of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. Members of the Scottish Junior Football Association, it currently plays in the North First Division. Founded in 1976, United is the smaller of the local teams after Fraserburgh F.C. of the Highland League. Based at College Park, the Club colours are tangerine and black.

Banff and Buchan College was until 1 November 2013 the name of the further education institution in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In November 2013, Banff & Buchan College merged with Aberdeen College to form North East Scotland College. The new regional college will continue to serve an extensive geographical area with its main centres of delivery in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh.

Fraserburgh Academy is a secondary school in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. It is one of seventeen schools run by Aberdeenshire Council. The current school building was opened in 1962 by H.R.H The Princess Margaret.

Bellslea Park is a football ground in Fraserburgh in north-east Scotland, which is the home ground of Highland Football League side Fraserburgh. It is located on Seaforth Street in the centre of the town and has a capacity of 3,000 with 480 seated.

Fraserburgh railway station is a former railway station that once served the town of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

Dalyrmple Hall is a building in Fraserburgh, Scotland, standing on Dalyrmple Street at its junction with Station Brae. Category C listed, in the Scottish baronial style, it dates to 1881. Its architects were Aberdeen-based Jenkins & Marr. The building's prominent feature is its five-storey tower, extended in angular glass.

The World's End is an historic townhouse in Fraserburgh, Scotland, standing on Dalyrmple Street. Category B listed, it dates to around 1767. The structure is two storeys and basement, constructed of squared heathen stone with freestone dressings and quoins. It has a shaped Dutch gable with an arched window and ball finials. Steps lead up to a pedimented door piece. A wooden porch present in the 1970s has since been removed. The building's first known owner was Charles Gordon in 1766. It also once belonged to the Gordons of Glenbuchat (or Glenbucket). Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Forbes of Pitsligo, hid here after the Battle of Culloden.
