Memsie

Memsie Cairn is an ancient cairn in Memsie, near Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Historic Scotland believe the burial cairn to be from the Bronze Age. It is an ancient historic monument managed by Historic Scotland.

House of Memsie (also known as Mesmie House) is a Category A listed country house and estate in Memsie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It dates to around 1760, and it received its historic designation in 1971. It was formerly the home of the Fraser family for over three hundred years. It was sold to Lord Saltoun in the early 19th century. A Captain Dalrymple was another previous owner. Historian Charles McKean describes it as a "smaller and more decorative version of Aberdour House".

Banff and Buchan College was until 1 November 2013 the name of the further education institution in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In November 2013, Banff & Buchan College merged with Aberdeen College to form North East Scotland College. The new regional college will continue to serve an extensive geographical area with its main centres of delivery in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh.

Fraserburgh United Football Club is a Scottish football club from the town of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. Members of the Scottish Junior Football Association, it currently plays in the North First Division. Founded in 1976, United is the smaller of the local teams after Fraserburgh F.C. of the Highland League. Based at College Park, the Club colours are tangerine and black.

Sandhaven is a small fishing village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which lies between Rosehearty to the west and Fraserburgh to the east. It is joined to the even smaller village of Pitullie to the west.

Rathen is a parish and hamlet near Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In Scottish Gaelic, its name means fort on the river. On the coast is Cairnbulg Point, flanking the eastern side of Fraserburgh Bay. Mormond Hill (769 feet (234 m)) sits on the borders of Rathen, Strichen and Lonmay. Rathen Burn runs through the parish for three miles. The old kirk, St Ethernan's, is one of the most ancient in Aberdeenshire. The church was given, by Marjory, Countess of Buchan, to Arbroath Abbey in the 13th century. In 1328, Robert the Bruce, a year before his death, granted it to the college and canons of Old Machar. A sundial was added in the kirkyard in 1625, and the church's nave was erected by the Frasers of Memsie in 1646. While the belfry dates from 1782, its bell has the inscription Peter Jansen, 1643. Also in the kirkyard are the burials of the great great grandparents of the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. The church was replaced in 1868 by a new construction, designed by William Smith, to the east of its predecessor. There is also a free church, Inverallochy and Rathen East Church, two miles northeast of Rathen. At the end of the 19th century, the main residence was Mormond House (formerly Cortese House), with House of Memsie being used as a farmhouse. Rathen railway station formerly existed as part of the now-defunct Formartine and Buchan Railway.

Fraserburgh Academy is a secondary school in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. It is one of seventeen schools run by Aberdeenshire Council. The current school building was opened in 1962 by H.R.H The Princess Margaret.

Mormond Hill (from Gaelic Mórmhonadh, "big hill") is a broad eminence in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, not far from Fraserburgh. Its twin summits reach heights of 754 feet (230 m) and 767 feet (234 m); the higher of the two is known as Waughton Hill. The hill is surrounded by the low-lying arable region known as Buchan. At its foot are the villages of Strichen and New Leeds. The hill is mentioned in the folk song "Mormond Braes", about a girl from "Strichen toon" who resolves to make a better match after her lover jilts her.

Broadsea is a community situated in Aberdeenshire in the north east of Scotland. It is a long-standing fishing community at the north edge of Fraserburgh. Christian Watt, author of The Christian Watt Papers, was born and raised in Broadsea. Her memoirs give an insight into the lives in the community during the latter part of the 19th century.

Pitsligo was a coastal parish in the historic county of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, containing the fishing villages of Rosehearty, Pittulie and Sandhaven, 3 miles (6 km) west of Fraserburgh and 12 miles (19 km) north of Mintlaw. The name is derived from the Gaelic Peit Shligeach, meaning "portion of land abounding in shells". The parish was established on 28 June 1633, from parts of the existing parishes of Aberdour, Fraserburgh and Tyrie. Pitsligo Castle dates from the 15th century. Old Pitsligo Church, known locally as the Rathill or Peathill Kirk, dates to 1632. Its loft, described by Charles McKean as "magnificent", was added two years later. It was later moved and installed in the Hill Church of Rosehearty. The church was constructed after Pitsligo seceded from the parish of Aberdour. It is believed the split occurred after a minister "ranted in a sermon" about the "three Pits of Hell", namely Pittulie, Pittendrum and Pitsligo.

Fraserburgh Old Parish Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. The present building was erected in 1803 at the head of the High Street, on the site of a 16th-century church. The church is a category B listed building.
