Vence Cathedral

Vence (French pronunciation: [vɑ̃s]; Occitan: Vença) is a commune set in the hills of the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France, north of Nice and Antibes on the Mediterranean coast.

The former French Catholic diocese of Vence existed until the French Revolution. Its see was at Vence in Provence, in the modern department of Alpes Maritimes. After the Concordat of 1801, the territory of the diocese passed to the diocese of Nice.

The Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence (Chapel of the Rosary), often referred to as the Matisse Chapel or the Vence Chapel, is a small Catholic chapel located in the town of Vence on the French Riviera. It was dedicated to the Dominican Order. The church was built and decorated between 1947 and 1951 under a plan devised by artist Henri Matisse.It houses a number of Matisse original works and was regarded by Matisse as his "masterpiece". While the simple white exterior has drawn mixed reviews from casual observers, some regard it as one of the great religious structures of the 20th century.

The canton of Vence is an administrative division of the Alpes-Maritimes department, southeastern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Vence.It consists of the following communes:

Labyrinth is the set of sculptures and ceramics created by the Catalan artist Joan Miró for Marguerite Aimé Maeght, between 1961 and 1981. It is currently located at the Maeght Foundation in Saint Paul de Vence, France.Labyrinth consists of 250 works, mainly sculptures, scattered in a terrace garden overlooking the sea, which illustrate the story of the connection between the Maeght family and Joan Miró. The labyrinth is a walk through the mind and imagination of the artist.

The Maeght Foundation or Fondation Maeght (pronounced [mɑɡ]) is a museum of modern art on the Colline des Gardettes, a hill overlooking Saint-Paul de Vence in the southeast of France about 25 km (16 mi) from Nice. It was established by Marguerite and Aimé Maeght in 1964 and houses paintings, sculptures, collages, ceramics and all forms of modern art. The collection includes works by many important 20th-century artists including Jean Arp, Pierre Bonnard, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Sam Francis, Alberto Giacometti, Wassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Léger, Anne Madden and Joan Miró among others.The building was designed by the Spanish architect Josep Lluís Sert, houses more than 12,000 pieces of art and attracts "on average, 200,000 visitors ... every year". There is a small chapel dedicated to Saint Bernard, in memory of Bernard, the son of Aimé and Marguerite Maeght who died of leukemia, aged eleven. The foundation is entirely independently funded with no reliance on state subsidies. Adrien Maeght is the chairman of the foundation's administrative council, which also includes Isabelle Maeght and her sister Yoyo Maeght.

Saint-Paul-de-Vence (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ pɔl də vɑ̃s], literally Saint-Paul of Vence; Occitan: Sant Pau de Vença; Italian: San Paolo di Venza) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. One of the oldest medieval towns on the French Riviera, it is well known for its modern and contemporary art museums and galleries such as the Fondation Maeght, and for the 17-century Saint Charles-Saint Claude chapel, which in 2012–2013 was decorated with murals by French artist Paul Conte.Until 2011, the commune was officially called Saint-Paul.

The Lubiane is a small river that flows through the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France. It flows entirely within the town of Vence. It is a right tributary of the Cagne. It is 7.3 km (4.5 mi) long.

La Colle-sur-Loup (French pronunciation: [la kɔl syʁ lu]; Occitan: Sa Còla de Lop) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France.

Saint-Jeannet (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃ ʒanɛ]; Occitan: Sant Joanet) is a hilly commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the southeastern Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in France. Located just northeast of Vence, it is part of the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur. In the 10th century, Saint-Jeannet became part of the County of Provence, under the leadership of William I.

La Gaude (French pronunciation: [la ɡod]; Occitan: La Gauda) is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in southeastern France.

The Château de Roquefort-les-Pins is a ruined castle located at the summit of a hill in Castellas in the commune of Roquefort-les-Pins in the Alpes-Maritimes département of France. According to local tradition, it was the refuge of Féraud de Cabris, a monk and prior, whose men terrorised the whole of Provence, causing Robert, Count of Savoy, to destroy the castle.
