The Queen Victoria Gardens are Melbourne's memorial to Queen Victoria. Located on 4.8 hectares (12 acres) opposite the Victorian Arts Centre and National Gallery of Victoria, bounded by St Kilda Road, Alexandra Avenue and Linlithgow Avenue. Queen Victoria's reign started in 1837, two years after the initial European settlement of Melbourne, and upon her death in 1901 it was thought appropriate to declare an enduring monument to her reign. A memorial statue was commissioned from sculptor James White showing the Queen in ceremonial gowns casting her regal gaze across ornamental lakes, sweeping lawns and rose gardens to the Melbourne Arts Centre Spire and the city skyscrapers. MPavilion is a temporary pavilion in Queen Victoria Gardens, Melbourne, erected annually since 2014. The event is sponsored by philanthropist Naomi Milgrom. Initially the project was planned for four years, but later it was extended by another two, until 2019. It is used for various art events, after which each pavilion is gifted to the city and moved to a permanent location.The first pavilion was designed by Sean Godsell, and was later relocated to the Hellenic Museum. The second pavilion was designed by UK-based architect Amanda Levete in 2015, and later relocated to Docklands. The third pavilion was a bamboo structure designed by Bijoy Jain of Studio Mumbai, later relocated to the Melbourne Zoo. In 2017, the pavilion was designed by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten, and is OMA's first completed design in Australia. It has been relocated to the Clayton campus of Monash University. The 2018 pavilion was designed by Spanish architect Carme Pinós. The King George V Memorial is a memorial in Kings Domain in Melbourne, Australia. It stands nearby the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, and features bronze statues of King George V on its east side and Britannia on its west. Commissioned in 1936 and created by William Leslie Bowls and unveiled in June 1952 after its construction was delayed by World War II, it has been the subject of protest and vandalism, including the removal of the George V statue's head in 2024.

The Alexandra Gardens are located on the south bank of the Yarra River, opposite Federation Square and the Melbourne Central Business District, in Victoria, Australia. The Gardens are bounded by the Yarra River to the north, Princes and Swan street bridges, with Queen Victoria Gardens and Kings Domain across Alexandra Avenue to the south. The gardens are part of the Domain parklands which stretch to the Royal Botanic Gardens and were first laid out in 1901, under the direction of Carlo Catani, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department. The Alexandra Gardens were named in honor of Alexandra of Denmark, in the year her reign as Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress consort of India began. The Alexandra Gardens are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register due to their historical and archaeological significance.

The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is an outdoor bandshell performance venue in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is located in the lawns and gardens of Kings Domain on Lithgow Avenue close to the Arts Centre and the Southbank entertainment precinct. It was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Australia, Robert Menzies, on 12 February 1959, with an audience of 30,000 people. It is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

The National Gallery of Victoria Art School, associated with the National Gallery of Victoria, was a private fine arts college founded in 1867. It was the leading centre for academic art training in Australia until about 1910. Among its luminaries, the school was headed by Sir William Dargie in 1946–53, John Brack from 1962–68, and Lenton Parr from 1968 to its absorption into the newly created Victorian College of the Arts.

The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) is the arts school at the University of Melbourne in Australia. It is part of the university's Faculty of Fine Arts and Music. It is located near the Melbourne city centre on the Southbank campus of the university. Courses and training offered at the VCA cover eight academic disciplines: dance, film and television, drama, Indigenous arts, music theatre, production, theatre, visual art, and writing, alongside the Centre for Ideas and the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development. The library on the Southbank campus is known as the Lenton Parr Music, Visual and Performing Arts Library.

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music (formerly known as the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Conservatorium of Music) is a faculty of the University of Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. It is located near the Melbourne City Centre, with its main campus at Southbank on St Kilda Road, housing the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (The Conservatorium). Part of Music also operates from the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne.

The Main Yarra Trail, also known as the Yarra Trail is a 35-to-45-kilometre (22 to 28 mi) shared-use path for cyclists and pedestrians, which follows the Yarra River through the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. From its western terminus, the trail follows the Yarra from near Southbank, through the city and northeastern suburbs towards either Eltham or Westerfolds Park in Templestowe. At various times, the trail is on both sides of the river. Both the Main Yarra and Capital City trails use the same path from Melbourne city centre in the west, to Dights Falls in the east. From the Yarra Bend Park, the Main Yarra Trail continues eastwards and to slightly higher terrain towards Templestowe and reaches its eastern terminus at the trail's junction with the Mullum Mullum Creek Trail; and forms connecting trailheads with several other trails along its course. In addition to the City of Melbourne, the trail passes through Stonnington, Yarra City, Boroondara, Banyule, Nillumbik, and Manningham local government areas. Large sections of the trail are administered by Parks Victoria. As well as the Yarra River, major landmarks include—within close proximity to the trail—from west to east, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Southbank, Como House, Herring Island Sculpture Park, Abbotsford Convent arts precinct, Collingwood Children's Farm, Yarra Bend Park, Fairfield Boathouse, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Mia Mia Gallery and Westerfolds Park. The trail is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri.

The Yarra Yarra Rowing Club is a rowing club on the Yarra River in Melbourne. It was founded in the 1870s by members of the Early Closing Association when several drapers in Bourke Street agreed to close on Saturday afternoons.

The Field, held August 21–September 28, 1968, was the inaugural exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria’s new premises on St Kilda Road, launched by the director of London’s Tate gallery, Norman Reid, before an audience of 1000 invitees. Hailed then, and regarded since as a landmark exhibition in Australian art history, it presented the first comprehensive display of colour field painting and abstract sculpture in the country in a radical presentation,[1] between silver foil–covered walls and under geometric light fittings, of 74 works by 40 artists. All practised hard-edge, geometric, colour and flat abstraction, often in novel media including coloured or transparent plastic, fluorescent acrylic paints, steel and chrome. The art was appropriate to a launch of the new venue itself, designed by architect Roy Grounds, and emphatically rectilinear; cubes nested in a basalt rectangular box amongst the other buildings of the new Arts Centre, each based on a geometric solid. Echoing emerging international stylistic tendencies of the time, The Field sparked immediate controversy and launched the careers of a new generation of Australian artists.

The National Gallery of Victoria, popularly known as the NGV, is an art museum in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Founded in 1861, it is Australia's oldest and most visited art museum. The NGV houses an encyclopedic art collection across two sites: NGV International, located on St Kilda Road in the Melbourne Arts Precinct of Southbank, and the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, located nearby at Federation Square. The NGV International building, designed by Sir Roy Grounds, opened in 1968, and was redeveloped by Mario Bellini before reopening in 2003. It houses the gallery's international art collection and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, designed by Lab Architecture Studio, opened in 2002 and houses the gallery's Australian art collection. A third site, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, is planned to open in 2028, and will be Australia's largest contemporary gallery.
