Prairie Grove School is a historic building located northwest of West Burlington in rural Des Moines County, Iowa, United States. This was the third school building for Prairie Grove. The first was a log structure known as Cockayne School and was located in what is now the cemetery. The second school building was a red brick structure located on the same property, acquired in 1849, as the subject building. It was replaced by the present stone structure in 1879. Surplus money from the teacher's fund and the sale of the old building provided the funds for construction. The stone was quarried locally. A wood-frame addition was built onto the front of the building in 1924 by Arch McCormick. The cupola and bell were added at the same time. In 1874 the school had 58 students and by 1936 that number was reduced to 10. It remained in operation until 1960. The building was deeded to the cemetery association the following year. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

Des Moines County is located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,910. The county seat and largest city is Burlington. It is one of Iowa's two original counties along with Dubuque County; both were organized by the Michigan Territorial legislature in 1834. Des Moines County is part of the Burlington, IA–IL Micropolitan Statistical Area. Des Moines County should not be confused with the city of Des Moines, which is the capital of Iowa. Des Moines County sits on Iowa's eastern border alongside the Mississippi River. The city of Des Moines is in Polk County in central Iowa. Both places derive their name from the Des Moines River, which flows through the city of Des Moines and originally flowed through the county. When the county was divided early in Iowa's history, the river ended up further west, forming the border between Lee County, Iowa and the state of Missouri.

Baptist Church, also known as Stone Church, is a historic church building in Sperry, Iowa, United States. The Baptist congregation that built this church was founded in 1840. They built this building seven years later. In addition to religious services, it was the meeting place for a variety of community events. The church building is surrounded by a cemetery, which contains the graves of some of the areas first settlers. The utilitarian design of the church building and the use of local materials is characteristic of pioneer church architecture in Iowa. The 48-by-36-foot (15 by 11 m) building is a single-story, gable roof structure. It features a cornice return. The roughly cut stone exterior uses larger stones at the corners for a decorative effect. The interior walls are plaster and the flooring are pine boards. It still houses the original hardwood pews, pulpit, minister's settee, and hand-carved altar. The building was damaged in a tornado in 1964, and the repairs conform to the original character of the church. It was added to the National Register in 1977.
