The Danville Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Danville, Iowa. It is mainly in Des Moines County, with a small area in Henry County, and serves the city of Danville and the surrounding rural areas.

Middletown is a city in Des Moines County, Iowa, United States. The population was 363 at the time of the 2020 census. It is part of the Burlington, IA–IL Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Prairie Grove School is a historic building located northwest of West Burlington in rural Des Moines County, Iowa, United States. This was the third school building for Prairie Grove. The first was a log structure known as Cockayne School and was located in what is now the cemetery. The second school building was a red brick structure located on the same property, acquired in 1849, as the subject building. It was replaced by the present stone structure in 1879. Surplus money from the teacher's fund and the sale of the old building provided the funds for construction. The stone was quarried locally. A wood-frame addition was built onto the front of the building in 1924 by Arch McCormick. The cupola and bell were added at the same time. In 1874 the school had 58 students and by 1936 that number was reduced to 10. It remained in operation until 1960. The building was deeded to the cemetery association the following year. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.

The Bridgeport Bridge is a historic structure located near Denmark, Iowa, United States. This span was a replacement bridge for structure whose middle stone pier was deteriorating. The weaknesses in the old bridge were noted in 1887 and 1893. Both Des Moines and Lee counties financed the $5,110 construction of this bridge, which spans the Skunk River between the two counties. The 240-foot-long (73 m) Pennsylvania truss bridge was built in 1904 by the Clinton Bridge and Iron Works of Clinton, Iowa. It carried local traffic for nearly 90 years before it was closed. It has the distinction of being the longest pin-connected truss remaining in Iowa. The Bridgeport Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP), located in Des Moines County in southeastern Iowa, near the city of Burlington, produces and delivers component assembly, and medium- and large-caliber ammunition items for the United States Department of Defense using modern production methods in support of worldwide operations. The facility is part of the US Army Joint Munitions Command. The plant is located at 17571 DMC Highway 79, Middletown, IA 52638-5000.
