Mount Lena (Washington)

Mount Bretherton is a 5,960-foot-elevation (1,817-meter) mountain summit located in the Olympic Mountains, in Jefferson County of Washington state. It is situated within Olympic National Park, immediately south and 1,400 feet above the shore of Upper Lena Lake. Mount Lena lies across the lake to the north, Mount Stone is 2.8 miles to the west-southwest, and The Brothers approximately four miles to the northeast. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains south to the Hamma Hamma River via Boulder, Delta, and Lena Creeks. Topographic relief is significant as it rises over 5,100 feet (1,600 meters) above the river in two miles. The non-technical ascent of Mount Bretherton involves hiking eight miles (one-way) and 5,300 feet elevation gain via the Upper Lena Lake Trail and cross-country above the lake, with most favorable conditions from July through September. There are pleasant campsites at the lake, and the ascent to the summit takes two hours from the lake. This mountain's name has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names.

Mount Elk Lick is a 6,517-foot-elevation (1,986-meter) mountain summit located in the Olympic Mountains, in Jefferson County of Washington state. It is situated within Olympic National Park, and is set within the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness at the head of Elk Lick Creek. The nearest neighbor is Mount La Crosse, 2.54 mi (4.09 km) to the west, and the nearest higher neighbor is Diamond Mountain, 3.73 mi (6.00 km) to the north-northwest. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains south into the Duckabush River, and north into the Dosewallips River. Topographic relief is significant as the south aspect rises over 4,300 feet (1,300 m) above the Duckabush valley in approximately one mile. The mountain is remote and an ascent can take four days and involves 46 miles of hiking.

The Brothers are a pair of prominent peaks in the Olympic Mountains which are located in the Pacific Northwest, near Hood Canal in Washington state on the boundary between Olympic National Park and The Brothers Wilderness. The south peak, rising to 6,842 feet (2,085 m), is 192 feet (59 m) higher than the north peak. No official trails approach the summit, but the south peak is considered a non-technical climb. The Brothers' distinctive double summit is clearly recognizable from Seattle. In 1856, surveyor George Davidson named these mountains in honor of two brothers of Ellinor Fauntleroy, his future wife. He called the southern peak Mount Edward and northern peak Mount Arthur. A suggestion in late 1968 to rename the mountains "The Brothers Kennedy" in honor of John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy was not approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.

The Maple Fire was a wildfire on Jefferson Ridge in the Olympic Mountains, approximately 23 miles north of Shelton, Washington in the United States. The fire was caused by illegal logging activities, and the resulting criminal trial was the first time that tree DNA has ever been used in a federal trial in the United States.

Piro's Spire, (also Piros Spire), is a 6,259-foot (1,908-metre) basalt pinnacle summit in the Olympic Mountains and is located in Jefferson County of Washington state. It is situated in Olympic National Park and the nearest higher neighbor is Diamond Mountain, 1.86 miles (3.0 km) to the west. Both are minor summits of the Mount Anderson massif, with Piro's Spire being the easternmost outlier.

The Brothers Wilderness is a designated wilderness area located in the Olympic National Forest on the eastern side of the Olympic Peninsula south of Buckhorn Wilderness and north of Mount Skokomish Wilderness. The wilderness area comprises 16,337 acres (6,611 ha) administered by the U.S. Forest Service. The wilderness is named after The Brothers peaks, which are the tallest in the wilderness area at 6,866 feet (2,093 m). The Duckabush River flows through the middle of the area. The area lies in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains, receiving about 80 inches (2,000 mm) of annual precipitation.
