The Matkus Shopping Center (Finnish: Kauppakeskus Matkus) is a shopping mall in the southern part of Kuopio, Finland, located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) south of its city center along the Highway 5 (E63), in the Matkus business area of the Hiltulanlahti district. It is the fifth largest business center in Finland. On bus lines 31 and 35 from the Kuopio Market Square directly to the shopping center. The mall was opened on November 1, 2012. The shopping center have about 70-90 stores, and it belongs to the Ikano Group, which is owned by Ikea. The shops are positioned according to a concept, so all the sports stores, for example, will be together to make it easier for customers to find the things they are looking for. The fashion boutiques will be sited according to their target groups.In the summer 2020, the Kuopio-themed Olopuisto outdoor activity park was completed, right next to the shopping center.

Pirtti (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈpirtːi]) is a district of Kuopio, Finland. It belongs to the larger subdivision of Petonen, and it is located about 10 kilometers from the center of Kuopio. At the beginning of 2015, the district had a population of 5,480.New housing and services are being built in Pirtti all the time with the construction and expansion of Saaristokaupunki. There are about 300 jobs in the area (January 1, 2008). In the area is the Pirtti School, which was built in 1998 and has about a little over 500 students. The Aurinkorinne School is also in the area of the Pirtti district.

Savonia University of Applied Sciences (Finnish: Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulu) is a local municipality-owned Finnish institution of higher education based in the cities of Kuopio, Iisalmi and Varkaus. Savonia offers bachelor's and master's degree programmes. It is the sixth largest University of Applied Sciences in Finland with about 6,500 students.The largest field of education is Engineering. Engineers graduate after a minimum of four years and 240 ECTS credits after which they are awarded with the degree of Insinööri (AMK), equivalent to a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng). The second largest field is Business, which educates its students for a minimum of three years and 210 ECTS credits. Business studies lead to the degree of Tradenomi, equivalent to Bachelor of Business Administration. Savonia University of Applied Sciences is participating in the Bologna Process. The new provisional institution was combined from very old (by Finnish standards) local establishments: Kuopio Academy of Design (Kuopion Muotoiluakatemia), est. 1884 Kuopio Polytechnic (Kuopion Teknillinen oppilaitos), est. 1886 Kuopio Institute of Commerce (Kuopion kauppaoppilaitos), est. 1887 Walter Ahlström's Polytechnic (Walter Ahlströmin Teknillinen oppilaitos) in Varkaus Varkaus Institute of Commerce (Varkauden kauppaoppilaitos)Soon they were followed by Kuopio School of Public Health (Kuopion terveydenhuolto-oppilaitos, est. 1896) and the institution expanded also to Iisalmi. In 1998 it received permanent status by the Finnish Government. 1. January 2004 Pohjois-Savo Polytechnic was renamed to Savonia University of Applied Sciences (Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulu).

Niirala is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland, and it has a population of about 3,500. Niirala is now a popular residential area due to its good location between the Kuopio University and the city center. Niirala's main street is Niiralankatu. The neighboring parts of Niirala are Hatsala in the northeast, Haapaniemi in the southeast, and Savilahti in the west.The area includes the Kuopio City Theatre, Alava Church, Minna Canth School and the popular oasis of the Valkeisenlampi Park. Niirala will have a total of about 1,300 jobs (January 1, 2008).

Haapaniemi is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. It is located south of downtown, about a mile from the market square. The district has a population of about 4,000. The northern end of Saaristokatu, which runs to the archipelago city, leads to Haapaniemi, as does the southern ramp leading to the center of the motorway. A villa district was designed in the area in an architectural competition held in 1899, which was won by architect Lars Sonck for Haapaniemi. On the basis of the competition entries, a draft town plan was prepared for the area, which was followed. However, the entry of industrial plants into the area in the early 20th century buried the idea of a villa district and housing was created for the working population in the area. The area includes the Haapaniemi Power Plant of Kuopio Energia, and Kuopio University Hospital. The cargo ship harbour of the port of Kuopio is located in Haapaniemi.

Kuopio University Hospital (KUH; Finnish: Kuopion yliopistollinen sairaala, KYS, Swedish: Kuopio universitetssjukhus) is a teaching hospital of the University of Eastern Finland along Puijonlaaksontie at the Puijonlaakso district in Kuopio, Finland. It serves as one of the main hospitals in the country and operates in the facilities of Central Hospital of Puijo (Puijon keskussairaala), Children's Hospital of Alava (Alavan lastensairaala) and Psychiatric Hospital of Julkula (Julkulan psykiatrinen sairaala) in Kuopio, and also former Tarina Hospital (Tarinan sairaala) in Siilinjärvi. After Kuopio, the municipalities of Siilinjärvi, Varkaus and Iisalmi use the services of the hospital district the most. KYS is Kuopio's second largest employer after the city of Kuopio; in 2011, Kuopio University Hospital employed a total of 4,113 people. KYS is also Finland's largest medical educator in terms of enrollment.KYS has an Epilepsy Center (Epilepsiakeskus) that provides diagnostics and treatment for severe epilepsy in both adults and children. The unit's special expertise is intracranial brain curve recordings and epilepsy surgery, which are nationwide concentrated in Kuopio and Helsinki, but most of Finland's epilepsy surgical procedures are performed in Kuopio. With regard to other areas of expertise in KYS, the Heart Center (Sydänkeskus) is a worldwide pioneer in the development of biological bypass surgery and gene therapy for heart failure.

Kuopio Football Stadium (Finnish: Kuopion keskuskenttä), also known as Väre Areena (formerly Savon Sanomat Areena, Magnum Areena) is a multi-use stadium in Kuopio, Finland. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of KuPS and Pallokissat . The stadium holds 5,000 and was built in 2005.

Puijonlaakso is a district in the city of Kuopio, Finland. As the name implies, it is located right next to Puijo Hill and is a very green area. The area has about 6,400 inhabitants, many of whom are students.The area includes the Puijonlaakso shopping center, nursing homes and the Hotel Savonia, in connection with which the tourism, nutrition and economics education unit of Savo Vocational College with Adult Education Center and Savonia University of Applied Sciences operates. Puijo Church was completed in 1977, as part of a larger parish center. Puijonlaakso also includes part of the University of Eastern Finland in Savilahti and the entire Kuopio University Hospital.

Hotel Savonia is a Best Western hotel located in Kuopio, Finland. It is also an educational unit, housing the Tourism, Catering and Domestic Services branch of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences.

Hatsala is a district located west of the center of Kuopio, Finland. The eastern boundary of the area is Puistokatu, the southern boundary is Minna Canthin katu and the northern is the Kuopio motorway. The western border first runs along Sairaalakatu and Niiralankatu. From the intersection of Suokatu, the border first runs north, then turns west and passes through the Savonia railway line to the motorway. The border leaves Mustinlammi on the Niirala side and on the Hatsala side of the swimming hall and Kuopio Hall.Hatsala is home to the Board Office, Kuopio Court House and Police Station, Kuopio Ice Hall (also known as Olvi Arena), Kuntolaakso Swimming Hall, the Orthodox Church Museum of Finland, Kuopio Sports Hall, the Classical High Schools of Hatsala and Kuopio, the Kuopio barracks area (nationally significant built cultural environment site) and the Kuopio Veteran Museum, the Dance Theatre Minimi and the Kuopio Community College currently operating in a larger, brick barracks building.

Kuopio Ice Hall (Finnish: Kuopion jäähalli, unofficially Niiralan Monttu) or Olvi Arena, is the ice hockey arena located in the Hatsala district of Kuopio, Finland which is also the home arena of KalPa. The arena is built in 1979. The ice hall can hold a maximum number of 5,300 spectators in the stands.

IsoCee is a shopping mall and entertainment center near the Kuopio Market Square in the city center of Kuopio, Finland. The street address of the shopping center built by the Carlson Group is Ajurinkatu 16, and the distance from IsoCee to the Market Square is about 150 metres (490 ft). The center includes Finnkino's Scala cinema, gym, Restaurant Taikuri and bowling alley Keilakukko. The center covers an area of about 9,000 m2 (97,000 sq ft). IsoCee was opened on Friday, May 17, 2013, next to the Minna Shopping Center.In 2014, Carlson Group, which also owned the adjacent Minna Shopping Center, sold IsoCee to Keva, a public sector pension financial institution. The purchase price has been reported to be EUR 18.8 million.
