The Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (stylized as The MADE) is an Oakland, California, museum dedicated to digital art and gaming, with fully playable gaming exhibits. Its mission is to collect and curate video games, digital media concept art, and gaming systems, to teach the public about digital art and the process of gaming creation. The Board of Directors and Board of Advisors are composed largely of veterans of the gaming industry, journalists, experts, and historians of the field. The museum's director is the internationally published technology journalist Alex Handy, with Dr. Henry Lowood, Curator of Stanford University History of Science & Technology Collections and Film & Media Collections serving on the board of directors. In September 2015, the museum launched a Kickstarter campaign to acquire a venue in San Francisco, California, across the bay.In June 2022, after being closed for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum reopened in a new location in downtown Oakland.

Clay Building, is a historical building in downtown Oakland, California. The Clay Building was built in 1901. The three-story brick building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1978. The Clay Building suffered major damage in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The Clay Building was a Levi Strauss factory, after the earthquake it was also the Levi Strauss headquarters. Later the Le Cheval restaurant and Tigrai Cafe opened on the ground floor. starting in 1909, Theodore Eliopolous's Eliopoulos Hellenic Company, an Egyptian cigar manufacturer was on the third floor, later moved to Webster Street by John Fisher. An auction house owned by David Bercovich operated out of the building for some years. Harry Bercovich opened a cigar shop in 1924 in the Clay Building. The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake damaged the building and was repaired.

Dunns Block is a historical building in Oakland, California. The Dunns Block was built in 1879. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 15, 1978. The Dunns Block building is at 725 Washington Street, Oakland. Dunns Block was designed by William Stokes (1833–1901). T Stokes also designed the Henry House-Portland Hotel on Ninth Street and in 1879 the Hall of Records. The building has been: MJB Coffee Shop, a book store and a tailor shop. The City of Oakland listed Dunns Block as Oakland Landmark #16, #LM 82–264 on November 9, 1982.

Old Oakland is a historic district in downtown Oakland, California. The area is located on the northwest side of Broadway, between the City Center complex and the Jack London Square district, and across Broadway from Chinatown. The Old Oakland district was the "original" downtown Oakland during the 1860s after Central Pacific Railroad constructed a terminus on 7th Street. By the 1870s, elegant brick Victorian hotels were being built in the blocks surrounding the railroad station to accommodate travelers. The ground floor of the hotels were designed as series of narrow shops so that pedestrians would pass by many of them just walking down the block. The architectural styles of the time featured tall, cast-iron columns and large plate-glass windows. The downtown began its decline after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, when the shopping district began moving to the blocks north of 14th. In the 1970s and 1980s developers carefully rehabilitated and restored a block along 9th Street between Washington Street and Broadway, known as "Victorian Row". Notable structures on Victorian Row include the 1878 Nicholl Block building. In its early days, the Oakland Tribune rented a small office on 9th Street. A sign for the Tribune office can still be seen hanging outside the building today (2007). A farmer's market is also held every Friday on the same stretch of 9th Street. As of 2008, the neighborhood continues to gentrify as a 'downtown lifestyle' district, more bistros and boutiques have cropped-up, as more market-rate condominiums have been constructed nearby, and as transit-oriented development retail and housing become more and more in demand. Swan's Market for example is an indoor-outdoor market and popular gather place for lunch.

10th Street Market, also known as the Swan's Market, Oakland Free Market or the Sanitary Free Market, was a commercial market district in Oakland, California. 10th Street Market was built in 1917 and expanded in 1926. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 2001. It is now known as Swan's Marketplaces, a mixed-use commercial and residential area. In 2001 Swan's Marketplace was awarded the Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence silver medal.

The Central Pacific Railroad Depot is a former rail station located in Oakland, California on 7th Street west of Broadway. Originally serving as the western terminal of the San Francisco and Oakland Railroad, the Central Pacific Railroad chose the line as the final link of their transcontinental route and acquired the line and station in 1869. Southern Pacific began operating the line in 1885, and most traffic was rerouted to the 16th Street station when that facility opened in 1912. An additional track was added at some point and both electrified for use in the Key System. A stop continued to operate out front, but the station building had been converted to the Mi Rancho Tortilla Factory in 1939. Tracks were removed with the dismantling of the system. The building was evaluated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, however was deemed unlikely to qualify due to changes on the facade.

Ask.com (originally known as Ask Jeeves) is a question answering–focused e-business founded in 1996 by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California. The original software was implemented by Gary Chevsky, from his own design. Warthen, Chevsky, Justin Grant, and others built the early AskJeeves.com website around that core engine. In 2006, the "Jeeves" name was dropped and they refocused on the search engine, which had its own algorithm. In late 2010, facing insurmountable competition from more popular search engines like Google, the company outsourced its web search technology and returned to its roots as a question and answer site. Douglas Leeds was elevated from president to CEO in 2010.Three venture capital firms, Highland Capital Partners, Institutional Venture Partners, and The RODA Group were early investors. Ask.com is currently owned by InterActiveCorp (IAC) under the NASDAQ symbol Nasdaq: IAC, and its corporate headquarters are located at 555 City Center, in the Oakland City Center development in downtown Oakland, California.

555 City Center is a 20-story, 85 m (279 ft) skyscraper in the City Center complex of downtown Oakland, California. The building was completed in 2002, and designed by Korth Sunseri Hagey Architects of San Francisco for Shorenstein Properties.

The Oakland Wye is an underground flying wye junction in downtown Oakland, California which serves the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. Trains can switch between (a) the northbound Richmond or Antioch lines (first station: 12th Street Oakland City Center, underground), (b) the westbound San Francisco lines (first station: West Oakland, elevated), and (c) the southbound Berryessa or Dublin/Pleasanton lines (first station: Lake Merritt, underground).: 45–46  The Oakland Wye is the center of the BART system (all mileposts measure distance from the wye), and is a bottleneck for the whole system because every regularly scheduled BART train (except for the Oakland Airport Connector and eBART) passes through it.

The Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building complex is a federal building complex in Oakland, California, constructed as part of the Oakland City Center redevelopment project. In 1998, the United States Congress passed a bill naming the building for former mayor and Congressman Ronald V. Dellums. It consists of two identical towers topped with pyramid-shaped roofs, echoing similar landmarks such as the Alameda County Courthouse. The towers are connected by a ground level rotunda and an elevated sky bridge. The podium of one of the towers houses a federal courthouse.Both buildings are 268 feet / 81.7 meters in height to roof, 100.0 m in height including spires.

The Clorox Building is a 24-story, 100.6 m (330 ft) High-rise building in the City Center complex of downtown Oakland, California. The building was completed in 1976, and designed by Cesar Pelli when he worked with Gruen Associates now based in Los Angeles. The Oakland-based Clorox Company is headquartered in the building.

Security Bank and Trust Company Building is a historical building in Oakland, California. The Security Bank and Trust Company Building was built in 1911. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 26, 1982. The renaissance Revival and baroque architecture building was designed by Frederick Meyer and Walter Reed. The six-story building as a U-shaped floor giving the upper floors more windows. The building is noted for it use of terracotta. The Security Bank and Trust Company Building has also been the headquarters of Key System, Oakland's public transportation system. Frederick Meyer also designed the San Francisco Bankers Investment Building (1912), Kohler and Chase Building (1909), Physicians Building (1914), Humboldt Bank Building (1906) and the Monadnock Building (1906).
