Salem State University (Salem State or SSU) is a public university in Salem, Massachusetts. Established in 1854, it is the oldest and largest institute of higher education on the North Shore and is part of the state university system in Massachusetts. The university offers a wide range of bachelor's and master's degrees as well as post-master's certificates in more than 40 academic disciplines. It is the only member of the Massachusetts public higher education system with a graduate program in social work. As of Fall 2020, Salem State enrolled 5,716 undergraduate and 1,526 graduate, full- and part-time students, from 37 states and 48 foreign countries.

The Salem Diner is a historic diner in Salem, Massachusetts. It is one of two Sterling Streamliner diners left in Massachusetts, and still stands at its original location. Designated car #4106, it was also one of the last made by the Sterling Company before it closed its doors in 1942. The diner body features a wood frame and porcelain enamel exterior. It has a metal hipped barrel roof, and its eastern end features a characteristic shovel nose. The roofline is decorated by a fin shape that serves as a backdrop for the diner's neon signage. It is mounted on a foundation that is predominantly concrete blocks, with some glass blocks interspersed. Its main entrance is centered on the long side, and is now sheltered by a modern glass vestibule added c. 1960.The Salem Diner was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.The Salem Diner closed Friday, May 31, 2019. In October plans were announced to relocate the diner and expand with a roof deck.

Pioneer Village, also known as Salem 1630: Pioneer Village, is a living history museum recreating the city of Salem as it was in the 17th century. Opened in June 1930, it was the first museum of its kind in the United States. The village was created for visitors to experience the lives of early English settlers instead of reading about them. Visitors can see a blacksmith’s shop, a sawmill, a saltworks, gardens, fireplaces, a Dugout, a Wigwam, and thatched roof cottages. The featured attraction upon opening was the Governor’s House, a “fayre house” representing what the house might have looked like after it had been disassembled in Cape Ann, brought over to Salem, and rebuilt for Governor John Endicott in 1628. Dimensional details for the replica had been worked out by George Francis Dow. Pioneer Village is currently operated by the City of Salem's Witch House, a 17th-century home once owned by witchcraft trials judge, Jonathan Corwin.

South Salem station is a proposed MBTA Commuter Rail station in Salem, Massachusetts, which would be served by the Newburyport/Rockport Line.

The Point Neighborhood Historic District, also known as Stage Point, is a predominantly residential historic district just south of downtown Salem, Massachusetts. It is a densely built, roughly rectangular grid of streets east of Lafayette Street, south of the South River, west of Congress Street, and north of Chase and Leavitt Streets. This area was the target of a major redevelopment effort undertaken by the city after a fire swept through in 1914. With many multiunit residential buildings constructed in just three years, the architecture of the area is remarkably cohesive. Commercial development is generally restricted to the fringes of the area, on Lafayette Street (a major local thoroughfare) and Congress Street.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Shetland Park is a 1,500,000-square-foot (140,000 m2) Office & Industrial complex, on the edge of Salem Harbor in Salem, Massachusetts, USA. The Park accommodates a variety of uses including office space, flex space, R&D, warehouse and storage. Originally on the site was the first steam-powered textile mill in the country, built by the Naumkeag Steam Cotton Company in 1839. As the sheeting it made was produced under the brand name of Pequot, it became known locally as the Pequot Mills. The original mill buildings were destroyed in 1914, a casualty of the Great Salem Fire of 1914. The buildings were rebuilt on the 30-acre (120,000 m2) property between 1916 and 1924. The current management purchased the property in 1958. Shetland Park, the city's largest office complex was sold in 2019 to Prime Storage Shetland, LLC, based in Saratoga Springs, New York for $70 million. Shetland Park was previously owned by Robert Lappin.

Derby Wharf Light Station is a historic lighthouse on Derby Wharf in Salem, Massachusetts that is within the Salem Maritime National Historic Site.It was built in 1871 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The United States Coast Guard Light List description is "White square tower. Maintained by the U.S. Park Service". The actual light is 25 feet (7.6 m) above Mean High Water. Its red light is visible for 4 nautical miles (7.4 km; 4.6 mi).

The Gedney and Cox Houses are historic houses at 21 High Street in Salem, Massachusetts. The earliest part of the Gedney House was built c. 1665, and the houses were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. They are owned by Historic New England, which offers limited tours.

The Salem Laundry is a historic laundry building at 55 Lafayette Street in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "Salem Landry". The building was erected in 1906 and is the first concrete building to be constructed in Salem. The four story building is divided into three wide bays, with the central bay projecting slightly. The bays have broad windows divided by ashlar-tooled concrete blocks, a styling that became fashionable in the following decade before unadorned concrete became more widely used. The building was built by, and has remained in the hands of, the Hooper family, who established a commercial laundry in Salem in 1806. It was listed on the National Register in 1983.

The Charter Street Historic District encompasses a small remnant of the oldest part of Salem, Massachusetts that has since been surrounded by more modern development. It includes three properties on Charter Street: the Pickman House, the Grimshawe House, and the Charter Street Cemetery, or Central Burying Point. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

The Pickman House is a first period structure located on Charter Street in Salem, Massachusetts, behind the Peabody Essex Museum. As no published dendrochronology study has been done, the exact build date of this home is disputed. In either case the house is thought to have stood during the Salem witch trials of 1692 and 1693. The house is now part of a group of properties that form the Charter Street Historic District. It has been described by the Massachusetts Historical Commission as a rare surviving example of 17th century architecture.
