Salem State University (Salem State or SSU) is a public university in Salem, Massachusetts. Established in 1854, it is the oldest and largest institute of higher education on the North Shore and is part of the state university system in Massachusetts. The university offers a wide range of bachelor's and master's degrees as well as post-master's certificates in more than 40 academic disciplines. It is the only member of the Massachusetts public higher education system with a graduate program in social work. As of Fall 2020, Salem State enrolled 5,716 undergraduate and 1,526 graduate, full- and part-time students, from 37 states and 48 foreign countries.

WMWM is a non-commercial radio station at 91.7 Megahertz in Salem, Massachusetts, licensed to Salem State University. The station was founded as WSSC AM 640 (carrier current) in 1968 and became WMWM at 91.7 FM in 1976 with a power of 10 watts. Power was increased to 130 watts in 1978. The station features alternative rock with specialty shows devoted to local artists, blues, talk, doo wop, and acoustic music. It broadcasts 24 hours a day utilizing computerized automation playlists when a live DJ is not available. Among the past DJs of WMWM are: Anngelle Wood, now with WZLX in Boston; Esoteric (rapper) of the hip-hop duo 7L & Esoteric; Jay Brown on air personality at WKAF 97.7 The Beat; Curtis Atchinson, Owner of SoundGroove Records (Midnight Society); Chris Kennedy, now with Beasley Media in Boston; and cartoonists Keith Knight (The Knight Life) and Mark Parisi (Off the Mark). Longtime DJ "Cosmic" Amanda Guest founded community radio station BFF.fm in San Francisco, CA.Two of the stations legendary on air DJs were Scott Merrill Mezansky (a/k/a Mike Elliott) and Bob Nelson. Scott hosted a soft rock/oldies show from 1978–1987. Bob has hosted The Juke Joint, a blues program (with two other hosts) on Sundays continuously since 1988 and has been a DJ since 1981. Another longtime DJ, Shaun Hayes, played jazz and progressive talk shows and was with the station for over 15 years. Hayes died on May 12, 2013. Also some DJs of note were Joe DiFranco also known as "Hank the Engineer" Also, Stephen Lochiatto who hosted several radio programs including punk, rock and jazz as well as broadcasting Salem State Basketball and Hockey games with John Clemeno and John Caron who also hosted several outstanding radio programs. Pam Kavenaugh was also a well known on air personality as well as being the stations General Manager. Doug Mascott hosted local music program "Trax of the Town" from 1999 until his death in March 2014.

South Salem station is a proposed MBTA Commuter Rail station in Salem, Massachusetts, which would be served by the Newburyport/Rockport Line.

Pioneer Village, also known as Salem 1630: Pioneer Village, is a living history museum recreating the city of Salem as it was in the 17th century. Opened in June 1930, it was the first museum of its kind in the United States. The village was created for visitors to experience the lives of early English settlers instead of reading about them. Visitors can see a blacksmith’s shop, a sawmill, a saltworks, gardens, fireplaces, a Dugout, a Wigwam, and thatched roof cottages. The featured attraction upon opening was the Governor’s House, a “fayre house” representing what the house might have looked like after it had been disassembled in Cape Ann, brought over to Salem, and rebuilt for Governor John Endicott in 1628. Dimensional details for the replica had been worked out by George Francis Dow. Pioneer Village is currently operated by the City of Salem's Witch House, a 17th-century home once owned by witchcraft trials judge, Jonathan Corwin.

Salem Hospital, formerly known as North Shore Medical Center, is a Level III trauma center located in Salem, Massachusetts. A member of Mass General Brigham since 1996, it offers comprehensive medical and surgical services and includes emergency/trauma departments and a birthplace. It includes Salem Hospital and the Mass General Brigham Healthcare Center in Lynn, as well as outpatient care and urgent care. The Medical Staff includes nearly 800 affiliated physicians representing primary care, family practice and 50 additional sub-specialties. It is affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. Salem Hospital is a general medical and surgical hospital which had 199 licensed beds as of 2023, with plans to expand to 212 by early 2024. The hospital had 19,467 admissions in the latest year for which data are available. It performed 4,409 annual inpatient and 7,955 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency department had 90,149 visits for 2012. A helipad at Salem Hospital is a helicopter transportation hub, with multiple daily flights to hospitals all over Boston.

Salem High School is a four-year public high school in Salem, Massachusetts, United States. It has an enrollment of approximately 900 students (as of 2016), and is accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

The Point Neighborhood Historic District, also known as Stage Point, is a predominantly residential historic district just south of downtown Salem, Massachusetts. It is a densely built, roughly rectangular grid of streets east of Lafayette Street, south of the South River, west of Congress Street, and north of Chase and Leavitt Streets. This area was the target of a major redevelopment effort undertaken by the city after a fire swept through in 1914. With many multiunit residential buildings constructed in just three years, the architecture of the area is remarkably cohesive. Commercial development is generally restricted to the fringes of the area, on Lafayette Street (a major local thoroughfare) and Congress Street.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The General Glover House, also known as the Glover Farmhouse, is a 1700s colonial house, and the final home to Revolutionary War hero General John Glover, located on the Marblehead - Swampscott - Salem border. The house sits on the historic 2.4 acre property, formerly known as the Glover Farm, that also contains a collection of other historic buildings representing different eras of the farms history. This is includes an old barn, inn building, and former store.

The Gedney and Cox Houses are historic houses at 21 High Street in Salem, Massachusetts. The earliest part of the Gedney House was built c. 1665, and the houses were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. They are owned by Historic New England, which offers limited tours.

The Pickering House (circa 1664) is a First Period Colonial house at 18 Broad Street, in Salem, Massachusetts' McIntire Historic District. The house was owned and occupied by ten successive generations of the Pickering family including Colonel Timothy Pickering. This house is believed to have been the oldest house in the United States continuously occupied by one family. However, in 1998, the Goodhue family moved into the house, with Albert Goodhue as the primary caretaker. It is located at 18 Broad Street, Salem, Massachusetts and is open to the public under the auspices of the nonprofit Pickering Foundation. Across the street is the Broad Street Cemetery, one of the three oldest in Salem.

Salem ( SAY-ləm) is a historic coastal city in Essex County, Massachusetts, United States, located on the North Shore of Greater Boston. Continuous settlement by Europeans began in 1626 with English colonists. Salem was one of the most significant seaports trading commodities in early American history. Today Salem is a residential and tourist area that is home to the House of Seven Gables, Salem State University, Pioneer Village, the Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Salem Willows Park, and the Peabody Essex Museum. It features historic residential neighborhoods in the Federal Street District and the Charter Street Historic District. The city's population was 44,480 at the 2020 census.Salem is widely noted for the infamous Salem witch trials of 1692. Some of Salem's police cars are adorned with witch logos, a public elementary school is known as Witchcraft Heights, and the Salem High School athletic teams are named the Witches. Gallows Hill Park was originally believed to be the site of the executions during the Witch Trials, but in 2016 a site nearby called Proctor's Ledge was identified as the true site of the executions. Gallows Hill Park now serves as a town park, with baseball fields, tennis courts, and other amenities.

Shetland Park is a 1,500,000-square-foot (140,000 m2) Office & Industrial complex, on the edge of Salem Harbor in Salem, Massachusetts, USA. The Park accommodates a variety of uses including office space, flex space, R&D, warehouse and storage. Originally on the site was the first steam-powered textile mill in the country, built by the Naumkeag Steam Cotton Company in 1839. As the sheeting it made was produced under the brand name of Pequot, it became known locally as the Pequot Mills. The original mill buildings were destroyed in 1914, a casualty of the Great Salem Fire of 1914. The buildings were rebuilt on the 30-acre (120,000 m2) property between 1916 and 1924. The current management purchased the property in 1958. Shetland Park, the city's largest office complex was sold in 2019 to Prime Storage Shetland, LLC, based in Saratoga Springs, New York for $70 million. Shetland Park was previously owned by Robert Lappin.
