New Whittington

Barrow Hill and New Whittington is one of the nineteen wards that make up the borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The population of the ward was 5,903 at the 2011 Census.Barrow Hill is a small semi-rural residential area situated approximately four miles from Chesterfield Town Centre. Whittington is split into two villages - Old and New; Old Whittington is a separate ward.

Whittington railway station is a former railway station on the southern edge of New Whittington, Derbyshire, England.

Whittington Green School (formerly The Meadows Community School) is a mixed secondary school located in Old Whittington, Chesterfield in the English county of Derbyshire.It is a community school administered by Derbyshire County Council, and offers GCSEs, BTECs and ASDAN courses as programmes of study for pupils. It commonly gets the 'Requires Improvement' rating from Ofsted, and was rated one of the worst schools in the UK by the government in 2019.

Sheepbridge and Brimington railway station was on the outskirts of the town of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The station was on the Great Central Chesterfield Loop which ran between Staveley Central and Heath Junction (just north of Heath railway station) on the Great Central Main Line. The station opened on 4 June 1892, was renamed to Brimington on 18 June 1951 and closed on 2 January 1956.

The Chesterfield transmitting station is a television and radio transmitter which serves the town of Chesterfield in Derbyshire and surrounding areas. It transmits digital television which it is line fed from Sheffield (Crosspool) (also known as the Tapton Hill transmitting station). The Chesterfield transmitter sits on a hillside to the north of the town and transmits digital television and radio services. Before the digital switchover, it was one of the few transmitters in the UK to transmit digital television, but not analogue channel Channel 5, and a number of its digital multiplexes were transmitted on the same channels as Emley Moor so it was not uncommon for co-channel interference to be an issue; similar problems still exist with Sutton Coldfield and Waltham (see external links). These co-channel issues with Emley meant that its output was attenuated to the North. The transmitter is vertically polarised as are most relays/repeaters. The altitude of the transmitting aerials is 231 metres, the actual tower being around 50 metres (164 ft) in height and of a similar design to many of the repeaters around the UK. In the early 2000s, an extra smaller tower was added at the side of the larger tower possibly for mobile phone use. Digital radio is broadcast from this site and it is just possible to receive digital radio in Chesterfield from other transmitters, specifically Tapton Hill in Sheffield. From 8 November 2007, the transmitter has broadcast the Digital One DAB Multiplex. Since then, the BBC National DAB Multiplex and the Bauer South Yorkshire have been added. The Chesterfield transmitter is owned by Arqiva (previously NTL).

Brimington is a large village and civil parish in the Borough of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, England. The population of the parish taken at the 2011 census was 8,788. The town of Staveley is to the east, and Hollingwood is nearby. The parish includes Brimington Common along the Calow Road, and New Brimington, a late 19th-century extension towards the Staveley Iron Works.

The Harry Needle Railroad Company (HNRC) is a railway spot-hire company, based at Barrow Hill Engine Shed in Derbyshire. Prior to 2010 the company also recovered valuable spares from scrapped railway vehicles, either on the vehicle owners site, or at the European Metal Recycling scrapyard in Kingsbury. HNRC was established in 1998. It adopted an orange livery. In 2002 it introduced a yellow, white and black livery.In 2019, HNRC purchased DB Cargo UK's Worksop depot. As at October 2019, this was being used to store withdrawn InterCity 225s and Class 345s awaiting the opening of the Elizabeth line.

Barrow Hill Roundhouse, until 1948 known as Staveley Engine Shed, is a former Midland Railway roundhouse in Barrow Hill, near Staveley and Chesterfield, Derbyshire (grid reference SK413754), now serving as a railway heritage centre.
