The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (LACDPW) is responsible for the construction and operation of Los Angeles County's roads, building safety, sewerage, and flood control. DPW also operates traffic signals and intelligent transportation systems, drinking water systems in certain communities, operates five airports, paratransit and fixed route public transport, administers various environment programs, issues various permits for activities in the public roadway, and has a Department Emergency Operations Center that works in conjunction with the County Emergency Operations Center operated by the Sheriff's Department. The department is headquartered at 900 South Fremont Avenue in Alhambra, California.Services are provided primarily to the unincorporated county with some services provided to contract cities. Flood control and watershed management services are provided to all of the county except the Antelope Valley. As part of its flood control and water supply responsibilities, the Department of Public Works has 15 major dams and 27 spreading grounds in the county. Pacoima Dam is one of the largest owned by Public Works and survived the Northridge earthquake in 1994 intact. Water from the dams is released into flood-control channels and some is diverted into spreading basins where it percolates into the ground and recharges the groundwater. The surface water is not used directly as it requires more cleaning than groundwater. Near the coast, the department has constructed sea water barriers that use injection wells to create a fresh water barrier to prevent salt water intrusion from the ocean into the groundwater.The DPW is a leader in watershed management. It provides storm drain education programs, publishes and enforces best management practices for activities that may affect the watershed, and manages watersheds to provide a balance between flood control, recreation, and protecting the natural environment.

On the morning of February 3, 2003, American actress Lana Clarkson was found dead inside the Pyrenees Castle, the Alhambra, California, mansion of record producer Phil Spector. In the early hours of that morning, Clarkson had met Spector while working at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Spector was tried for the murder of Clarkson in 2007. On September 26 of that year, a mistrial was declared due to a hung jury, with ten jurors of twelve favoring conviction. He was tried again for second-degree murder beginning on October 20, 2008. On April 13, 2009, the jury found Spector guilty of murdering Clarkson. On May 29, 2009, he was sentenced to nineteen years to life in state prison. Spector died in a prison hospital in January 2021.

Ramona Convent Secondary School is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for girls grades 9–12, located in Alhambra, a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Established in 1889, Ramona is one of the oldest continually operating schools in the same location in California. Today, more than 7,000 alumnae located throughout the world serve their communities both professionally and personally. Ramona is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the Western Catholic Education Association and was a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence recipient in 1993 and 1998. Ramona was voted "Best Catholic School" in the San Gabriel Valley Readers' Choice Awards in 2018 and again in 2019.

The House at 530 S. Marengo Avenue is a historic house in Pasadena, California. Built in 1905, the American Craftsman house was designed by Pasadena architect Louis B. Easton. Easton was one of several prominent Craftsman architects in Pasadena in the early 1900s; the house at 530 S. Marengo, located next to his own self-designed house at 540 S. Marengo, was one of his earliest designs. The house features exposed beams and hand-carved joint work in the spirit of the Craftsman style, which emphasized function over form. The interior of the home was inspired by homes in The Craftsman, Gustav Stickley's architecture magazine, which ultimately featured some of Easton's later works.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1979.

Cal State LA Studios is the production area of the Department of Television, Film, and Media Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, the only CSU campus in the Los Angeles basin. Bachelor of Arts degrees are offered in Telecommunications and Film, Broadcast Journalism and Animation. Master of Arts degree programs include Screenwriting and Critical Studies as well as a three option Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in Dramatic Writing, Production/Direction, and Performance in Television, Film, & Theatre Arts. Production facilities and equipment include: 3-camera digital television studios, dedicated news studio, nonlinear postproduction workstations, postproduction labs and individual editing suites, 16 mm motion picture camera kits, DV and HDV camera kits, field lighting kits, and misc. grip equipment. In 2014, the department open the Television, Film and Media Studies Center with a new sound stage and audio post-production facilities.

Eagle's Nest Arena is an indoor arena located on the California State University, Los Angeles campus. It plays host to the basketball and volleyball teams for the Golden Eagles, is 94 feet (29 m) long by 80 feet (24 m) wide, and can handle two basketball and three volleyball courts. Seating 3,200 at full capacity, it hosted the judo competitions for the 1984 Summer Olympics. It also hosted the inaugural JBA playoffs for the rounds up to the championship in 2018.

Alhambra High School (AHS) is a public high school in Alhambra, California established in 1898. It is a part of the Alhambra Unified School District. The school is located on Second Street, across the street from City Hall and the Police Department, bounded by Second Street, Commonwealth Avenue, Fifth Street, and Main Street. The campus is divided into three parts, by Third and Fourth Streets.

Academia Semillas del Pueblo Xinaxcalmecac (English: Seeds of the People Academy) is an Indigenous Mexican public charter school of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). It offers instruction in grades Kindergarten through eighth, and is located in the community of El Sereno, on the east side of Los Angeles. The school, which opened in 2002, was founded by Marcos Aguilar, a former teacher at Garfield Senior High School.
