Norton and Cuckney

St Mary's Church, Norton Cuckney is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in Cuckney.At the edge of the churchyard are the remains of Cuckney Castle, a motte and bailey castle listed as a Scheduled Monument by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Cuckney Castle was in the village of Cuckney, Nottinghamshire between Worksop and Market Warsop (grid reference SK566714). It was a motte and bailey fortress founded by Thomas de Cuckney. It was razed after The Anarchy in the reign of King Stephen. There are now the low remains of a motte, partly enclosed by a wide ditch and to the west the faint remnants of a bailey. These remains can be found at the edge of the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Norton Cuckney. Cuckney motte and bailey castle is listed as a Scheduled Monument by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.In the 1950s, a mass grave of approximately 200 human remains was found in a trench near the churchyard, leading to speculation regarding a battle near the site.

Norton became a civil parish in 1866, on 1 April 2015 the parish was abolished and merged with Cuckney to form "Norton and Cuckney", On 1 April 2023 it became part of Norton, Cuckney, Holbeck and Welbeck. It is located not that far from the county's border with Derbyshire.

Locals ironically to it as 'Cuckney Mountain', as it is in fact quite small and does not stand out in the local Meden Valley region because of Welbeck Colliery's pit tip, adjacent to Cuckney Hill. Cuckney Hill is located on the A60 road and is surrounded by trees, farmland and the pit tip. From the top of the hill you can see the whole of Market Warsop.

Welbeck Abbey Cricket Ground is a cricket ground at Welbeck Abbey, Nottinghamshire. The county match on the ground was in 1901, when Nottinghamshire played Derbyshire in the grounds first first-class match. The ground held a further first-class match in 1904 when Nottinghamshire played Derbyshire.

It was the site of a monastery belonging to the Premonstratensian order in England and after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, a country house residence of the Dukes of Portland. It is in the Dukeries as one of four contiguous ducal estates in North Nottinghamshire and the house is a grade I listed building.

St Peter and St Paul's Church, Church Warsop is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in Church Warsop. Several gravestones, the boundary wall, gates, piers and overthrow in the churchyard are Grade II listed. Warsop parish centre in the church grounds is Grade II* listed

It is slightly to the south-west of Worksop. In 2001 the parish had a population of 31.Welbeck became a coal-mining centre in 1912 and has a famous stately home, Welbeck Abbey, home of the Dukes of Portland, and which was founded in the twelfth century as a monastery.The cricketer Ted Alletson, who held a batting world record for 50 years, is from Welbeck. Archduke Franz Ferdinand accepted an invitation from the Duke of Portland to stay at Welbeck Abbey and arrived with his wife, Sophie, by train at Worksop on 22 November 1913. This was almost a year before his assassination, which triggered the First World War. The Archduke narrowly avoided being killed in a freak hunting accident during his stay.

Church Warsop is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 1 mile north of Warsop and is within the Warsop civil parish. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is early Norman.The village was built in the 1926 by the Staveley Coal and Iron Company to house colliery workers and their families working at their Warsop Main Colliery located in nearby Warsop Vale. There is also a second church, the "Chapel of Bethlem", from the same date as much of the village.
