Cuckney

Cuckney Castle was in the village of Cuckney, Nottinghamshire between Worksop and Market Warsop (grid reference SK566714). It was a motte and bailey fortress founded by Thomas de Cuckney. It was razed after The Anarchy in the reign of King Stephen. There are now the low remains of a motte, partly enclosed by a wide ditch and to the west the faint remnants of a bailey. These remains can be found at the edge of the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Norton Cuckney. Cuckney motte and bailey castle is listed as a Scheduled Monument by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.In the 1950s, a mass grave of approximately 200 human remains was found in a trench near the churchyard, leading to speculation regarding a battle near the site.

The overall area had a population of 351 at the 2011 census. The parish lay in the north west of the county, and south west within the district. The parish lies close to the county border with Derbyshire. It is 125 miles north west of London, 20 miles north of the city of Nottingham, and 5 miles north of the market town of Mansfield. The area was bordering Sherwood Forest and has associations with mining interests and the Welbeck Estate.

It is just north of Cuckney, and is home to a number of farmsteads. Lying within the original extent of Sherwood Forest, and on its present edge, and lying within the Welbeck Abbey Estate. Norton was formerly a township in the parish of Cuckney, In 2001 the parish had a population of 140. Norton became a civil parish in 1866, on 1 April 2015 the parish was abolished and merged with Cuckney to form "Norton and Cuckney", On 1 April 2023 it became part of Norton, Cuckney, Holbeck and Welbeck. It is located not that far from the county's border with Derbyshire.

Norton, Cuckney, Holbeck and Welbeck is a civil parish in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England. The Norton and Cuckney, and the Holbeck and Welbeck parishes ceased to exist on 31 March 2023 (2023-03-31), after which they were merged into the present entity.At the time of the 2011 census, the total population of the then independent civil parishes was 550, and this dropped to 530 in the 2021 census.

Cuckney Hill lies between the village of Cuckney and the town of Market Warsop, in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, England. Locals ironically to it as 'Cuckney Mountain', as it is in fact quite small and does not stand out in the local Meden Valley region because of Welbeck Colliery's pit tip, adjacent to Cuckney Hill. Cuckney Hill is located on the A60 road and is surrounded by trees, farmland and the pit tip. From the top of the hill you can see the whole of Market Warsop.

Church Warsop is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is located 1 mile north of Warsop and is within the Warsop civil parish. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is early Norman.The village was built in the 1926 by the Staveley Coal and Iron Company to house colliery workers and their families working at their Warsop Main Colliery located in nearby Warsop Vale. There is also a second church, the "Chapel of Bethlem", from the same date as much of the village.

Welbeck Abbey is a mansion situated in the village of Welbeck, which is within the civil parish of Norton, Cuckney, Holbeck and Welbeck, in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire, England. It was the site of a monastery belonging to the Premonstratensian order in England and after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, a country house residence of the Dukes of Portland. It is in the Dukeries as one of four contiguous ducal estates in North Nottinghamshire and the house is a grade I listed building.

Warsop Town Hall is a municipal building in Church Street in Warsop, Nottinghamshire, England. The building is home to Warsop Parish Council, and was formerly the offices of Warsop Urban District Council and the local offices of Nottinghamshire County Council.
