Marnham, Nottinghamshire

Skegby is a hamlet within the Marnham civil parish in Bassetlaw district, of the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It lies in the north east of the county, south east within the district and centre south of the parish. It is 122 miles (196 km) north of London, 23 mi (37 km) north east of the city of Nottingham, and 17 mi (27 km) north east of the market town of Mansfield. There are two listed buildings in the area.

Normanton on Trent is a village in Nottinghamshire, England. It is nine miles south-east of Retford. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 299, increasing to 345 at the 2011 census and including Low Marnham. In 1848, it had 362 inhabitants. The parish church of St Matthew is a Grade II* listed building, dating from the 13th century. Other listed buildings in Normanton include the Grade II listed Manor House on South Street; Normanton Hall on Main Street; and the former School House also on Main Street. The latter has an inscription: "Henry Jackson of this town Gent built and endowed this school for four pounds a year for the education of ten poor children belonging to this parish Anno Dom 1776". There are two public houses, however there are no shops. The nearest shop is the Co-Op, in Sutton-on-Trent. There is a Primary school in Normanton-on-Trent, St.Matthews C of E Primary school.

Darlton is a small village and civil parish in Nottinghamshire, England. It is on the A57 road about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) north-east of Tuxford. The population of the civil parish was 102 at the 2001 Census, increasing to 110 at the 2011 Census.The Church of England parish church of St Giles is 12th century and is in the Transitional style. In 1855 it was heavily restored by the architect T.C. Hine.Kingshaugh House was originally a hunting lodge built to serve the eastern Le Clay division of Sherwood Forest. It was fortified with earthworks in a rebellion of 1196 against King John. A new lodge was built in 1210–11 at a cost of £550 but was abandoned after 1217. The present Kingshaugh House is a late 17th-century farmhouse that appears to incorporate some masonry from the lodge.Darlton is the birthplace of Charles Read (1604–1669), who became a wealthy shipper in Kingston upon Hull. In 1667 Read founded a grammar school and a set of almshouses at Drax in Yorkshire. When Read died, his will founded further grammar schools at Tuxford in Nottinghamshire and Corby Glen in Lincolnshire. The site of Whimpton Village, a deserted medieval village, is about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi) east of Darlton.

High Marnham is a village within the Marnham civil parish in Bassetlaw district, of the county of Nottinghamshire, England. It is 120 miles north of London, 23 miles north east of the city of Nottingham, and 17 miles north east of the market town of Mansfield. There is one listed building in the village.

High Marnham Power Station was a coal fuelled power station in Nottinghamshire, to the west of the River Trent, approximately 0.5 miles (0.8 km) north of the village of Marnham. Construction began in 1954, power generation commenced in 1959, and the station became fully operational in 1962. The plant operated until 2003 when it was decommissioned, though the cooling towers weren't demolished until 2012. High Marnham was the most southerly of three power stations which lined the River Trent, known locally as Megawatt Valley, the others being West Burton and Cottam. It was the first 1000 MW [946 MW net] power station built and commissioned in Europe; it operated at higher boiler pressure and temperatures than earlier plant.

Grassthorpe is a small village and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district of Nottinghamshire, England. Population details are included in the civil parish of Weston. A former chapel of St James was in the village. It was converted into a cottage and barn during the reign of Elizabeth I. There is also a disused watermill.In the 1660s Gresthorpe Hall (i.e. Grassthorpe) was rented to Robert Shawe who supported the Quaker William Smith of Besthorpe (d. 1672) in speaking to 150 people of the ‘lowest and meanest’ sort there. Smith was allowed to attend by his Nottingham gaoler Robert White causing a sharp complaint in August 1669 from Rev John Hewes, the vicar of Normanton. There are three windmills recorded at Grassthorpe. A post mill was moved to Tuxford in 1814. A composite post mill was moved in 1870, again to Tuxford. A tower windmill in an orchard belonged to the Seels family. The miller in 1844 was Thomas Seels; the mill passed to Samuel Seels, who was 82 in 1935. The windmill was 3 storeys high, 14-foot (4.3 m) wide at the base, having 2 pairs of stones and dressing machinery. The top of the mill was pulled down by engine in 1934. At some time previously the sails had been blown down, supposedly being "too heavy".There are four Grade II Listed buildings in the village: The Pinfold, Copper Hill The Pigeoncote at The Manor House The Manor House and Boundary Wall Snowdrop Cottage, Town Street

It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
