Słubice

Słubice County (Polish: powiat słubicki) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Lubusz Voivodeship, western Poland, on the German border. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Słubice, which lies 63 km (39 mi) south-west of Gorzów Wielkopolski and 79 km (49 mi) north-west of Zielona Góra. The county contains three other towns: Rzepin, lying 19 km (12 mi) east of Słubice, Ośno Lubuskie, lying 25 km (16 mi) north-east of Słubice, and Cybinka, 24 km (15 mi) south-east of Słubice. The county covers an area of 999.77 square kilometres (386.0 sq mi). As of 2019 its total population is 47,018. The most populated towns are Słubice with 16,705 inhabitants and Rzepin with 6,529 inhabitants.

Gmina Słubice is an urban-rural gmina (administrative district) in Słubice County, Lubusz Voivodeship, in western Poland, on the German border. Its seat is the town of Słubice, which lies approximately 63 kilometres (39 mi) south-west of Gorzów Wielkopolski and 79 km (49 mi) north-west of Zielona Góra. The gmina covers an area of 185.42 square kilometres (71.6 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 20,061.

The Wikipedia Monument (Polish: Pomnik Wikipedii), located in Słubice, Poland, is a statue designed by Armenian sculptor Mihran Hakobyan honoring Wikipedia contributors. It was unveiled in Frankfurt Square (Plac Frankfurcki) on 22 October 2014 in a ceremony that included representatives from both local Wikimedia chapters and the Wikimedia Foundation.

The Church of the Holy Virgin Mary The Queen of Poland (Polish: Kościół Najświętszej Maryi Panny Królowej Polski) is located in Słubice, a small town in Słubice County, in Lubusz Voivodeship, in Poland. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. The building which dates back to 1775 and served as a rifle range was adapted to its present use after World War II, when Słubice became a part of the Polish territory.

The Kleist Museum, located at Faberstraße 7 in Frankfurt an der Oder, Germany, is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Heinrich von Kleist.

Named after the 18th-century German musician and composer Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Straße is indeed one of the longest street names in the world, certainly Germany.Apart from being very close to the Oder river and the border crossing to Słubice, Poland, Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Straße is home to part of the Viadrina Museum in the Junker house and Museum for Junge Kunst.

The Stadtarchiv Frankfurt (Oder), (German: City Archives of Frankfurt an der Oder), contains the documents with information about the history of the city Frankfurt upon Oder and its citizens from the 13th century to the present day. To the archives belongs: seeds, sources for history research, acts, maps, plans, manuscripts, newspapers, magazines, books, stamps and other materials. The library (built in 1925), part of archives, contains about 16 000 volumes of printed books from 1470–2001, and 34 incunabula printed before 1470 in Frankfurt. Most of them by Viadrina University of Frankfurt.

European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (German: Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder)) is a university located at Frankfurt (Oder) in Brandenburg, Germany. It is also known as the University of Frankfurt (Oder). The city is on the Oder River, which marks the border between Germany and Poland. With 5,200 students — around 1,000 of whom come from Poland — and some 160 teaching staff, the Viadrina is one of Germany's smallest universities (only the University of Erfurt and Jacobs University Bremen have fewer students). The Latin word Viadrina means "belonging to, or situated at, the Oder River"; it derives from Viadrus, the name of a presumed river god of the Oder. Actually, an ancient name of the river is not documented, it is mentioned as Oddera in the 991 Dagome iudex referring to the realm of Prince Mieszko I of Poland. The Latin name was probably introduced by the Frankfurt scholar Jodocus Willich (c.1486–1552) and appeared in the Cosmographia by Sebastian Münster in 1544; the city of Frankfurt was known in Latin as Francofortum ad Viadrum.

The Battle of Frankfurt an der Oder on 13 April 1631 was a battle of the Thirty Years' War. It was fought between the Swedish Empire and the Holy Roman Empire for the strategically important, fortified Oder crossing Frankfurt an der Oder, Brandenburg, Germany.The town was the first major Imperial stronghold attacked by Sweden outside the Duchy of Pomerania, where Sweden had established a bridgehead in 1630. After a two-day siege, Swedish forces, supported by Scottish auxiliaries, stormed the town. The result was a Swedish victory. With the subsequent clearance of nearby Landsberg (Warthe) (now Gorzow), Frankfurt served to protect the Swedish army's rear when Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden proceeded further into Central Germany.

The Frankfurt (Oder) tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Frankfurt (Oder)) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Frankfurt (Oder), a town in the federal state of Brandenburg, Germany, on the Oder River, at the German-Polish border. Opened in 1898, the network presently consists of five lines. It is operated by Stadtverkehrsgesellschaft mbH Frankfurt (Oder) (SVF), and integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB).

Der Oderturm is a 24-storey, 95 m (312 ft) office skyscraper in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, built between 1968 and 1976 when the city was part of East Germany. It is arguably the tallest office building in Brandenburg, with a mobile telephony mast. Its 89 m (292 ft) roof is 1 m (3 ft 3 in) less than that of the Stern-Plaza in Potsdam, built in 1998. The 107 m (351 ft) hall containing Tropical Islands and the 161 m (528 ft) steam generator at Schwarze Pumpe power station are taller structures, though they lack occupied floors.
