Castleton, officially Castleton Of Eassie, is a village in Angus, Scotland. This settlement is situated along the A94 road between Glamis and Meigle. One mile to the south is the village of Eassie and Eassie Old Church, noted for the presence of the Eassie Stone; this carved Pictish stone is dated prior to the Early Middle Ages. Slightly further to the south lies Ark Hill within the Sidlaw Hills. Castleton Hotel stands on the medieval fortification that gives the settlement its name, an enormous defensive mound surrounded by a broad ditch. The rectangular earthwork is 12-to-14-foot (3.7 to 4.3 m) deep in the north-east, with a three-foot internal rampart, elsewhere it is shallower. There are no visible remains of the buildings of the medieval castle, which were perhaps largely of wood.

Balkeerie is a village in Angus, Scotland north of Dundee. It has an elevation of 222 feet (68 m) above sea level. It is one mile (1.6 km) to the north east of kirkinch and two-thirds of a mile (1.1 km) to the west of the village of Eassie. Eassie is noted for the presence of the Eassie Stone, a carved Pictish stone.

Nevay Church is a ruined 16th century parish church located near the village of Kirkinch in Angus, Scotland. Originally dedicated to St Neveth, a church has been recorded at this site since the 14th century; however, a round-headed cross-slab found in the church, and now displayed in the Meffan Institute, Forfar, suggests an earlier origin. The building and surrounding cemetery are designated a scheduled Ancient Monument. Nevay church was abandoned in 1835 when a newer church was built to serve both the Eassie and Nevay Parishes.

Kirkinch, meaning 'kirk (church) on the island' in Scots and Gaelic, is a small village in Angus, Scotland. The 'island' is the knoll on which stand the remains of the late 16th century Nevay Church and its medieval burial ground. Nevay parish is now united with Eassie parish. Originally it was an 'island' of slightly higher land surrounded by boggy country. The village houses are adjacent to the knoll, which is encompassed by the wall of the old churchyard. Some of the earliest history of the local area is represented approximately two kilometres northwest at the village of Eassie, where the Eassie Stone is displayed in a modern transparent shelter in the ruined former parish church; this finely carved Pictish cross-slab probably dates to the first half of the 8th century (Historic Scotland; accessible at all times). The church site at Kirkinch is itself probably of early Christian origin. A simple disc-headed cross-slab found here is on display at the Meffan Institute in Forfar.

Ark Hill is a mountainous landform within the Sidlaw Hills in Angus, Scotland. This location has been proposed as a windfarm for generating renewable electrical power. Approximately two kilometres to the north is the village of Eassie noted for the presence of the Eassie Stone; this carved Pictish stone is dated prior to the Early Middle Ages.

Airlie (Scottish Gaelic: Iarlaidh) is a civil parish in the Scottish council area of Angus. It is the seat of the Earl of Airlie, and the location of Airlie Castle. It comprises Craigton of Airlie, Baitland of Airlie and Kirkton of Airlie. There is a standing stone in a field just east of the Baitland; various Pictish and Roman relics (stone coffins etc.) have been uncovered and the primary school is reputed to have been built on the site of an old graveyard. Airlie also contains one of the finest examples of a Pictish souterrain in Scotland, with the carving of a snake clearly visible in the ceiling. Airlie Castle is not currently open to the public, however it is remembered in the song The Bonnie Hoose o' Airlie which is mentioned in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Kidnapped. The song commemorates the burning of the castle (some of the stonework is still black) by the Earl of Argyll, claiming to act on behalf of the anti-royalists, while the earl was away fighting for the Jacobite cause. However, it is also claimed that Forter Castle in Glen Isla was the "bonnie hoose" destroyed in 1640. It is also mentioned in the song Wha'll be King but Charlie?, as performed by The Corries, presumably because it is a good rhyme for "Chairlie".

Hatton Castle stands on the lower part of Hatton Hill, the most easterly of the Sidlaw Hills, to the south of Newtyle in Angus, Scotland. The castle overlooks the wooded Den of Newtyle, and its views extend across Strathmore and include Ben Lawers and Schiehallion as well as the Angus and Glenshee hills. The 16th-century castle was originally built in a typical Scottish "Z plan" tower house design, as a fortified country house or château. There was an earlier castle called Balcraig Castle which stood less than half a mile from the present building, also on Hatton Hill.
