Pocapaglia

Pollentia, known today as Pollenzo (Piedmontese: Polèns), was an ancient city on the left bank of the Tanaro. It is now a frazione (parish) of Bra in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, northern Italy. In antiquity Pollentia belonged to the Ligurian Statielli, Augusta Bagiennorum (modern Roncaglia in the Comune of Bene Vagienna) being 16 km to the south. Its position on the road from Augusta Taurinorum (modern Turin) to the coast at Vada Sabatia (modern Vado Ligure, near Savona), at the point of divergence of a road to Hasta (modern Asti), gave it military importance. Decimus Brutus managed to occupy it an hour before Mark Antony in 43 BC. Here Stilicho on April 6, 402, fought the Battle of Pollentia with Alaric I, which though undecided led the Goths to evacuate Italy. The place was famous for its brown wool and pottery. Today it is home to the University of Gastronomic Sciences which offers undergraduate, graduate and masters programs focused on gastronomy and food tourism. According to the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica considerable remains of ancient buildings, including an amphitheater, a theater and a temple were still in existence, although the so-called temple of Diana was more probably a tomb.

The University of Gastronomic Sciences (UNISG) is an international university located in northern Italy. The campus is in Pollenzo, near Bra, a city in the north-west region of Piedmont. Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food Movement, established the university to focus on gastronomic sciences and the organic relationships between food, ecology, and cultures. More than 2,500 students have taken courses at UNISG since it opened in 2004. UNISG offers a variety of courses leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas related to gastronomic sciences, food cultures and heritage, food ecologies, and food communications and management. As part of their curriculum, students every year are engaged in a number of field study trips in Italy and also in other European and extra-European countries.

La Zizzola is a 19th-century villa, or rural palace, located on the Monteguglielmo hill above the town of Bra in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy. Built in an octagonal shape and highly visible from the town, it was constructed in 1840 as a villa delle delizie, or "country house of delights". The villa was donated to the comune in 1962 and is used for cultural events. It has come to be considered one of the symbols of the town.

Santa Chiara is a Roman Catholic church located on Via Barbacana, 49 in the town of Bra, province of Cuneo, region of Piedmont, northern Italy. The small domed church was designed by the late-Baroque architect Bernardo Antonio Vittone.

The Battle of Pollentia was fought on 6 april 402 between the Romans under Stilicho and the Visigoths under Alaric I, during the first Gothic invasion of Italy (401–403). The Romans were victorious, and forced Alaric to retreat, though he rallied to fight again in the next year in the Battle of Verona, where he was again defeated. After this, Alaric retreated from Italy, leaving the province in peace until his second invasion in 409, after Stilicho's death.

Roero (Italian pronunciation: [roˈɛːro]; Piedmontese: Roé [rʊˈe]) is a geographical area in the north-east corner of the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, north-west Italy. This hilly region is known for its wines and for its fruit production: particularly the peaches of Canale and the local variety of pear known as Madernassa which originated in the late eighteenth century in Vezza d'Alba. Strawberries are also grown. The name comes from the Roero family of bankers and traders, who were prominent in the political life of Asti and its environs, and who dominated this area for a number of centuries during the Middle Ages. The designated zone of production for the DOCG wines Roero and Roero Arneis is a subset of this territory which comprises the communes of Castellinaldo, Canale, Corneliano d’Alba, Piobesi d’Alba and Vezza d’Alba, plus parts of Baldissero d'Alba, Castagnito, Guarene, Govone, Magliano Alfieri, Montà, Monteu Roero, Pocapaglia, Priocca, Santa Vittoria d'Alba, Santo Stefano Roero and Sommariva Perno.

Santa Vittoria d'Alba is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 45 kilometres (28 mi) southeast of Turin and about 45 kilometres northeast of Cuneo. Cherasco is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) southeast of Turin and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northeast of Cuneo. As of 1-1-2017, it had a population of 9096 and an area of 81.2 square kilometres (31.4 sq mi).The municipality of Cherasco contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) of Bricco de' Faule, Cappellazzo, Meane, Roreto, San Bartolomeo, San Giovanni, Sant'Antonio and Veglia. Cherasco borders the following municipalities: Bra, Cavallermaggiore, Cervere, La Morra, Marene, Narzole, and Salmour. The Cherasco Synagogue in the old Jewish ghetto has a notable Baroque Torah ark and bimah. The Visconti Castle is a medieval one, uilt in the 14th century by Luchino Visconti, Lord of Milan, and partly reconstructed at the beginning of the 20th century.On 28 April 1796 in Cherasco was signed an armistice between Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia and Napoleon Bonaparte.

Sommariva Perno is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located in Roero about 40 kilometres (25 mi) southeast of Turin and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northeast of Cuneo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,800 and an area of 17.4 square kilometres (6.7 sq mi). The municipality of Sommariva Perno contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Valle Rossi, San Giuseppe, and Villa. Sommariva Perno borders the following municipalities: Baldissero d'Alba, Corneliano d'Alba, Monticello d'Alba, Pocapaglia, Sanfrè, and Sommariva del Bosco.
