Plains railway station

Plains is a village outside the town of Airdrie, in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, about 14 miles (23 km) east of Glasgow city centre and 32 miles (51 km) west of Edinburgh. The nearest major towns are Airdrie (2.5 miles or 4 km) and Coatbridge (5 miles or 8 km). The village is west of Caldercruix and the North Calder Water. The population is about 2,740.

Glenflagler Distillery, (also known as Glen Flagler) located in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, produced the Lowland single malt whisky Glen Flagler. Glen Flagler distillation commenced on 25 February 1965 and the distillery was subsequently closed in July 1985. The Glen Flagler brand has subsequently been reformed under new ownership, and using a blend of Scotch whiskies to recreate the original flavours.Glen Flagler was used in the Hankey Bannister 40 Year old blend, which was voted the world's best blended Scotch whisky at the World Whiskies Awards

Arden railway station was a station on the Slamannan Railway. The line connected mines and villages in the Central Scotland. Opened by the Slamannan Railway, then joining the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, was absorbed into the North British Railway. It became part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The station was then closed by that company.

Drumgelloch railway station is a railway station serving the east of Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located 600 yards (550 m) east of the 1989 station on the former Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway, on the site of the former Clarkston railway station. The station previously closed in 1956.

The Greengairs Landfill is a landfill site in Scotland that receives non-hazardous household, commercial and industrial waste from the North Lanarkshire area. Greengairs was opened in 1990 and features landfill gas collection systems which are used to generate electricity for export into the National Grid. The landfill is owned and operated by FCC Environment.

Whiterigg railway station served the village of Maddiston, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, from 1862 to 1930 on the Slamannan Railway.

Roughrigg is a reservoir in North Lanarkshire. The reservoir itself is some 137 acres in extent. The reservoir is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Airdrie.

Drumgelloch railway station was a railway station serving Drumgelloch, an eastern suburb of Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The station was managed by First ScotRail and was the eastern terminus of the North Clyde Line, 20 km (12½ miles) east of Glasgow Queen Street from May 1989 to May 2010.

Caldercruix railway station serves the village of Caldercruix in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is managed by ScotRail and is on the North Clyde Line. Originally opened by the Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway in 1862, it was closed in 1956 then reopened in 2011 as part of the reopening of the Airdrie–Bathgate rail link.

Greengairs is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Greengairs is shown on a map by Roy c.1754 under the name of Green Geirs. In toponymy the name means "green strips of grass". Lying 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Cumbernauld and 3 miles (5 km) north east of Airdrie, the village consists mainly of local authority housing. Between them Greengairs and Wattston have about 1,190 residents.It developed in the nineteenth century due to increased coal mining and quarrying. Ironstone was first mined by the Summerlee Iron Company in the 1840s. It was in the parish of New Monkland or East Monkland. It also historically had its own school; the teachers had a house but no salary. The village was badly affected by the Stanrigg Mining Disaster where, in July 1918, a collapse led to the deaths of 19 local mine workers.Greengairs power station opened in 1996, and is powered by methane produced by biodegrading materials from a large landfill site developed since 1990 in former open cast workings situated to the south of the village. Greengairs is the largest landfill site in Scotland, handling waste from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Greengairs has 6000m of pipes with biogas fed by 90 gas wells.
