Folke Wood

Folke is a parish in the county of Dorset in southern England, situated in the Blackmore Vale, approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-east of Sherborne. The parish has an area of 2,120 acres (8.6 km2) and is made of the villages of Folke and Alweston, and the hamlet of Bishops Down. Dorset County Council's 2013 estimate of the population of Folke parish is 270. In the 2011 census figures have been published for the population of Folke parish combined with the small parish of North Wootton to the north; this was 339.The Manor House in the hamlet of Folke dates from about 1500 and adjoins the early 17th-century parish church. The house of Font le Roi, sited by the road towards Sturminster Newton, was built as a gatehouse in the 15th century. Folke Wood is nearby.

Alweston is a village in Dorset, England, situated roughly 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southeast of Sherborne. Historically it belonged to the Parish of Folke, in the Hundred of Sherborne. It lies just off the A3030 road, with Haydon to the north, North Wootton to the west, Caundle Marsh to the southeast and Folke to the south.The village is known for its baking, and bread is delivered to Sherborne, Blandford, Canford Cliffs and Westbourne from the village.

North Wootton is a hamlet and civil parish in Dorset, England, situated approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) southeast of Sherborne. It is sited on a narrow band of Cornbrash limestone, with Oxford clay adjacent to the southeast and Forest Marble to the northwest. In 2013 the estimated population of the parish was 50.The land of the parish has traditionally been owned by the owner of Sherborne Castle, so past owners have included Sir Walter Raleigh and bishops of Salisbury Cathedral. Residents of the parish previously had to take the deceased to Sherborne Abbey for burial; this arrangement stopped in 1618.

Longburton or Long Burton is a village in Dorset, England, three miles (5 km) south of Sherborne. It is sited on a narrow outcrop of Cornbrash limestone, at the western end of Blackmore Vale. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 470.

Caundle Marsh is a village and civil parish in northwest Dorset, England, situated in the Blackmore Vale, 4 miles (6.4 km) southeast of Sherborne. The parish includes the hamlet of Tut Hill and the Dorset County Council estimate that in 2013 the population of the parish was 70.

Haydon is a village and civil parish 16 miles (26 km) north of Dorchester, in the Dorset district, in the county of Dorset, England. In 2001 the parish had a population of 44. The parish touches Castleton, Caundle Marsh, Folke, Goathill, North Wootton and Purse Caundle.

Sherborne Castle (sometimes called Sherborne New Castle) is a 16th-century Tudor mansion southeast of Sherborne in Dorset, England, within the parish of Castleton. Originally built by Sir Walter Raleigh as Sherborne Lodge, and extended in the 1620s, it stands in a 1,200-acre (490 ha) park which formed a small part of the 15,000-acre (61 km2) Digby estate. Within the grounds lie the ruins of the 12th-century Sherborne Old Castle, now in the care of English Heritage.

Holnest SSSI, Dorset (grid reference ST667106) is a 54.83 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Dorset, notified in 2004.The site has a large population of Great Crested Newts.

St Peter and St Paul's Church is a Church of England parish church in Caundle Marsh, Dorset, England. It was designed by Robert Howard Shout and built in 1856–57. The church is a Grade II listed building.

Sherborne Town Football Club are a football club based in the town of Sherborne, Dorset, England. They are currently members of the Wessex League Premier Division and play at Raleigh Grove. The club is affiliated to the Dorset County Football Association and is a FA chartered Standard club.

Sherborne Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club in Dorset in the south west of England. The club was established in 1980. It has a membership of 100 senior players and a further 300 boys and girls in the junior section. The club runs two men's teams with the 1st XV currently playing in Regional 2 South West – a league at level 6 of the English rugby union system – following their promotion as champions of Southern Counties South at the end of the 2018–19 season.

Castleton is a civil parish in the English county of Dorset. The parish virtually encircles the town of Sherborne, and contains within its boundary both Sherborne Castle and Sherborne Old Castle. These and other buildings within the parish are today generally regarded as comprising part of Sherborne. The parish includes the hamlets of Wyke, Silverlake, Over Coombe, Higher Clatcombe, Dodds Cross, and Pinford. In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 155.Roman remains have been found at two sites in the parish: at Pinford Lane, in the east, and near Sandford Lane, in the north. The Pinford Lane site revealed the remains of buildings, an oven or kiln, coins, pottery, brooches and beads. The Sandford Lane site revealed more remains of buildings, coins and one brooch.Most of the houses in the parish, but not the church, were pulled down when the railway was built through the town. Castleton shares a grouped parish council, Yeohead & Castleton Parish Council, with the three village parishes of Poyntington, Goathill and Oborne.The parish is currently in the Dorset County division of Sherborne Rural, and the Parliament constituency of West Dorset; the current MP is Chris Loder (Conservative), who succeeded Sir Oliver Letwin in 2019.
