Moyock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Currituck County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 3,759.

Northwest River Natural Area Preserve is a 2,774-acre (11.23 km2) Natural Area Preserve located in the city of Chesapeake, Virginia. Located along the Northwest River, the preserve protects upland forests as well as swamps and marshes along the river.The preserve is home to numerous rare species of plants and animals; those found in the forest include silky camellia (Stewartia malacodendron) and canebrake rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus), while the swamps host Dismal Swamp southeastern shrews (Sorex longirostris fisheri), epiphytic sedge (Carex decomposita), and Dukes' skipper (Euphyes dukesi). Sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense), winged seedbox (Ludwigia alata), and little grass frogs (Pseudacris ocularis) can be found in the preserve's marshes.Northwest River Natural Area Preserve is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. It does not include improvements for public access, and visitors must make arrangements with a state-employed land steward prior to visiting.

St. Brides Correctional Center is a state prison occupying 180 acres (0.73 km2) in the city of Chesapeake, Virginia, first opened in 1973 and re-built in 2007. The facility is a medium-security prison for men, owned and operated by the Virginia Department of Corrections. It lies in a rural section of the city, south-southeast of downtown Chesapeake, adjacent to another state prison, the Indian Creek Correctional Center. Its current warden is Dara Watson.

The Indian Creek Correctional Center (ICCC) is a Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) state prison for men. The prison is located in Chesapeake, Virginia, United States, approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) north of the North Carolina border. The facility was opened in 1994 and specializes in long-term treatment of incarcerated substance abusers. The medium security facility houses inmates in dormitory-style quarters, split into six housing units. In June 2008, the prison had an average daily population of 1,002 inmates.The ICCC is adjacent to VADOC's St. Brides Correctional Center, which houses inmates not requiring specialized treatment for substance abuse.

Hickory is a small rural unincorporated community located within the independent city of Chesapeake in the U.S. state of Virginia. Hickory lies in the southern portion of the city and is adjacent to the North Carolina-Virginia border. Most of Hickory is either rural farmland or wealthy suburban neighborhoods. Hickory High School is where New York Mets star David Wright matriculated from. Its school colors are teal, gray, black, and white. Its school mascot is a hawk. The school once made news when students held a "Confederacy Day" parade on the front lawn. However, it continues to rank at the top of Virginia schools for test scores and overall academic quality and rigor.

Owing to the overwhelming number of students, a new school, Grassfield High School, was built nearby.

St. Stephen, Martyr is a Roman Catholic Church and part of the Diocese of Richmond, located in Chesapeake, Virginia. It was established in 1997 to accommodate the growing Catholic community of the Chesapeake area.

Cavalier Wildlife Management Area is a 4,550-acre (18.4 km2) Wildlife Management Area in Chesapeake, Virginia. It preserves habitat for a number of species, including black bear, canebrake rattlesnakes, white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkeys, and many varieties of songbirds.The preserve comprises two separate tracts of land. The 3,800-acre (15 km2) main tract is located about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east of the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and adjacent to the Virginia–North Carolina border; it was once a part of the Great Dismal Swamp but was drained more than 200 years ago. The main tract today is typified by recently logged forestlands planted with young pine. A smaller, 758-acre (3.07 km2) tract lies about six miles (9.7 km) north of the main area of land, immediately adjacent to the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.The area is open to the public for seasonal hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking, and primitive camping. Firearms are prohibited in the Dismal Swamp tract, where only bow-hunting is permitted; firearms may be used for hunting within the main tract. Neither area permits horseback riding.Cavalier Wildlife Management Area is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Access for persons 17 years of age or older requires a valid hunting or fishing permit, or a WMA access permit.

Murfreesboro Historic District is a national historic district located at Murfreesboro, Hertford County, North Carolina. The district encompasses nine contributing buildings in the oldest section of the city of Murfreesboro. The buildings include notable examples of Greek Revival style architecture. They are the William Rea Store (c. 1790); John Wheeler House (c. 1800) birthplace of John H. Wheeler (1806-1882) and later home of Congressman Jesse Johnson Yeates (1829-1892); Myrick House (c. 1810); Melrose (c. 1810) home of Congressman William H. Murfree (1781 – 1827); The Hertford Academy (c. 1810); Roberts-Vaughan House (c. 1810); Dr. Isaac Pipkin House (c. 1825); Rose Bower (c. 1830); and the Walter Reed House (c. 1845) childhood home of Walter Reed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

North Landing River Natural Area Preserve is a 3,441-acre (13.93 km2) Natural Area Preserve located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States. It almost entirely consists of wetlands, including five wetland types considered rare in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The preserve protects pocosins, an increasingly scarce type of wetland in the southeastern United States; also in the area are a number of forested swamps and freshwater tidal marshes, all found along the lower North Landing River and supporting numerous rare species. Breeding and wintering waterfowl also make their home in the area.North Landing River Natural Area Preserve was dedicated in 1990, and was the first Natural Area Preserve to be established in Virginia.The preserve is owned and maintained by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. After a decade of closure due to illegal activities and lack of staff, the preserve was scheduled to re-open for public use in 2016 or 2017. Improvements at the preserve include a boardwalk, informational signs, a wildlife viewing platform, and a canoe/kayak launch.

Sligo is an unincorporated community in Currituck County, North Carolina, United States. It is south of Moyock on Route 168. It was reportedly named after a minister, Edward Dromgoole, in 1783, and who missed his hometown of Sligo, Ireland.
