Aries (mountain)

Humes Glacier is located in the Olympic Mountains in Olympic National Park, approximately 2.25 miles (3.62 km) southeast of the summit of Mount Olympus. The glacier starts at nearly 6,000 ft (1,800 m) and descends downslope 1.25 mi (2.01 km), terminating at 4,800 ft (1,500 m) above sea level. It was named by members of The Mountaineers climbing club in 1907 for Grant and Will Humes, who were guides, explorers, and pack-train operators.

Hoh Glacier is a glacier on Mount Olympus in the Olympic National Park in Jefferson County of the U.S. state of Washington. It is the source of the Hoh River. Hoh Glacier is the longest glacier on Mount Olympus at 3.06 miles (4.93 km), though it is smaller in volume than Blue Glacier.

Mount Mathias is a 7,156-foot (2,181-metre) mountain summit located within Olympic National Park in Jefferson County of Washington state. Its nearest higher neighbor is Mount Olympus, 1.76 mi (2.83 km) to the east. Mount Mathias is wedged between the massive Blue Glacier below its west slope, and the Hoh Glacier on the east side. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into the Hoh River.

Jeffers Glacier is southeast of Mount Olympus in the Olympic Mountains in Olympic National Park, Washington, US. The glacier is relatively small compared to the nearby Hoh Glacier. Beginning at the foot of a very steep headwall at about 5,800 feet (1,800 m), the glacier descends northeast to about 4,900 ft (1,500 m) before terminating. Meltwater from the terminus flows to the Queets River. The Jeffers Glacier is named for Olympia photographer Joseph Jeffers, who died after falling into a crevasse there in 1924.

Blue Glacier is a large glacier located to the north of Mount Olympus in the Olympic Mountains of Washington. The glacier covers an area of 1.7 sq mi (4.4 km2) and contains 580,000,000 cu ft (16,000,000 m3) of ice and snow in spite of its low terminus elevation. The glacier length has decreased from about 3.4 mi (5.5 km) in 1800 to 2.7 mi (4.3 km) in the year 2000. Just in the period from 1995 and 2006, Blue Glacier retreated 325 ft (99 m). Blue Glacier is also thinning as it retreats and between 1987 and 2009 the glacier lost 178 ft (54 m) of its depth near its terminus and between 32 and 48 ft (9.8 and 14.6 m) in the uppermost sections of the glacier known as the accumulation zone.

Ice River Glacier is located 2.4 miles (3.9 km) northeast of Mount Olympus in the Olympic Mountains of Olympic National Park in the U.S. state of Washington. Starting at an elevation of 6,400 feet (2,000 m) on the northern slope of a subpeak of Mount Olympus known as Mercury (6,950 ft (2,118 m)), the glacier flows northwest as it descends. The glacier reaches as low as 5,200 ft (1,600 m) before terminating. Though the glacier lies adjacent to the much larger Blue Glacier, an arête separates the two glaciers.

Athena is a 7,365-foot-elevation (2,245 meter) mountain summit located within Olympic National Park in Jefferson County of Washington state. Athena is situated at the head of the Hoh Glacier, and the Hubert Glacier lies below the west aspect. Its neighbors include Mount Olympus, 1.7 mi (2.7 km) to the northwest, and Aries 1.7 mi (2.7 km) to the northeast. Athena has subpeaks "Athena II" (7,259 ft), and "Athena's Owl" (7,000 ft). Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into the Queets and Hoh Rivers, with Athena being the highest point within the Queets drainage basin.

The Olympic Peninsula is a large arm of land in western Washington that lies across Puget Sound from Seattle, and contains Olympic National Park. It is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean, the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the east by Hood Canal. Cape Alava, the westernmost point in the contiguous United States, and Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point, are on the peninsula. Comprising about 3,600 square miles (9,300 km2), the Olympic Peninsula contained many of the last unexplored places in the contiguous United States. It remained largely unmapped until Arthur Dodwell and Theodore Rixon mapped most of its topography and timber resources between 1898 and 1900.

Hubert Glacier is located on the south side of Mount Olympus in the Olympic Mountains and Olympic National Park. Due to its southern orientation, the glacier is smaller than those on the north side of Mount Olympus, such as Blue Glacier. Named for Anna Hubert, the only female member of the first ascent of Mount Olympus, the Hubert Glacier occupies a cirque at the bottom of the headwall, with one branch extending to the south up the mountainside. Starting from this highpoint of the glacier at 6,500 feet (2,000 m), it flows northward until it meets the glacial ice located in the cirque at about 5,600 ft (1,700 m). The glacier changes direction and flows west to its terminus at about 5,000 ft (1,500 m).

Mount Olympus, at 7,980 feet (2,430 m), is the tallest and most prominent mountain in the Olympic Mountains of western Washington state, US. Located on the Olympic Peninsula, it is also a central feature of Olympic National Park. Mount Olympus is the highest summit of the Olympic Mountains; however, peaks such as Mount Constance and The Brothers, on the eastern margin of the range, are better known, being visible from the Seattle metropolitan area.

Mount Meany is a prominent 6,695-foot (2,041-metre) mountain summit located deep within Olympic National Park in Jefferson County of Washington state. With a good eye and clear weather, the top of the mountain can be seen from the visitor center at Hurricane Ridge. The nearest neighbor is Mount Noyes less than one mile to the south, and the nearest higher peak is Circe (6,847 ft) on Mount Olympus, 4.07 mi (6.55 km) to the northwest. There are scrambling routes on the east side, via Noyes-Meany col, and via the ridge from Mount Queets. Due to heavy winter snowfalls, Mount Meany supports several small glaciers on its north and east slopes, despite its modest elevation. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into the headwaters of both the Elwha and Queets Rivers.

White Glacier is located on the north slopes of Mount Tom in the Olympic Mountains and Olympic National Park in the U.S. state of Washington. The main portion of the glacier heads at around 7,000 and 6,400 feet (2,100 and 2,000 m) in a cirque just under the summit rocks, while the westernmost section of White Glacier is partially separated from the rest of the glacier by several small ridges of rock and flows straight north. The principle portion of the glacier flows north as well, with a glacier toe descending to around 4,800 feet (1,500 m) where the toe turns northeast to its terminus at 4,400 feet (1,300 m). Steep ridges of rock separate an eastern portion of the White Glacier from the Blue Glacier cirque on adjacent Mount Olympus, to the east. Like the other glaciers on Mount Olympus, White Glacier has retreated significantly since its Little Ice Age maximum. At its greatest extent in the early 19th century, it was connected with Blue Glacier and Black Glacier. During the next ~150 years it retreated rapidly and by 1952 it had retreat 10,500 feet (3,200 m). It then advanced a small distance between 1955 and 1980 due to a cooler and wetter climate. The glacier began to retreat again in the 1980s and retreated ~1000 ft (300 m) from its position in 1980 to 2006.
