Asgog Loch is a natural freshwater loch in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) southwest of Tighnabruaich, on the Cowal Peninsula. The loch was dammed during the 19th century to create an impounding reservoir for the supply of freshwater to the Low Mills of the nearby gunpowder mills at Millhouse (the Kames Powder Works). The remains of three crannogs, or artificial islands, have been observed within the loch on occasions when the water level has been lowered. Asgog Castle stands on the northwest shore of the loch.

Kames (Scottish Gaelic: Camas nam Muclach) is a small village on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, west of Scotland, on the shore of the west arm of the Kyles of Bute. Kames is now part of a continuous coastal strip of housing that joins onto Tighnabruaich. Kames has a grocery shop (containing a post office, and relaunched under new management as the "Kames Village Store" in late 2016), a church and a hotel. The Kames Hotel has views over the west arm of the Kyles of Bute.

The Craignafeich Reservoirs (also “Craignafeoch”) are a pair of lochs in Archarossan Forest, 3 kilometres west of Tighnabruaich. The main concrete dam is 15.8 metres high, and was completed in 1972.

Tighnabruaich; ( ; Scottish Gaelic: Taigh na Bruaich) is a village on the Cowal Peninsula, on the western arm of the Kyles of Bute in Argyll and Bute, west of Scotland. In 2011 the population was 660. It is west of Glasgow and north of the Isle of Arran. Tighnabruaich is now part of a continuous coastal strip of housing that joins onto Kames.

Tighnabruaich Lifeboat Station is located at the harbour at Tighnabruaich, a village on the Cowal peninsula, on the Kyles of Bute, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. A lifeboat was first stationed hare by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in 1967. The station currently operates a B-class (Atlantic 85) Inshore lifeboat (ILB), the James and Helen Mason (B-862), on station since 2012.

Sgat Mòr and Sgat Beag (Scottish Gaelic pronunciation: [s̪kat̪ moːrˠ ɪs̪ s̪kat̪ pɛk]; English: The Skate Islands or, less commonly, Skate Island and Wee Skate Island) are two small islands that lie at the mouth of Loch Fyne by the shore of the Cowal peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. Sgat Mòr lies at grid reference NR930666 directly south of Eilean Aoidhe and rises just 11 metres (36 ft) above sea level. Sgat Beag is a similar but slightly smaller island that lies approximately 1 kilometre to the east, across the mouth of Asgog Bay. The islands appear to have been named after the Skate fish however there is a Skate Point and Skate Bay on nearby Great Cumbrae so it is not impossible that skate is a local toponym with a different derivation. The channel between Sgat Mòr and the Cowal shoreline at Eilean Aoidhe is navigable and local sailing regattas, paddle steamer Waverley and MV Balmoral regularly pass inside this narrow channel. The waters to the south of the islands are the deepest in the Clyde area.A beacon resembling a small lighthouse is situated on the southwestern shore of Sgat Mòr.

Kilfinan is a hamlet on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, west of Scotland. Located on the eastern side of Loch Fyne, the hamlet is 4 miles (6.4 km) northwest of the village of Tighnabruaich. Kilfinan is the burial place of the clan chiefs of the Lamonts, in the 13th-century Kilfinan Parish Church. The hamlet is also home to the Kilfinan Hotel for over 300 years which started off as a coaching inn.

This particular Eilean Dubh (Scottish Gaelic: Black Island) is sometimes known as Glen Caladh Island and lies just off the Cowal peninsula in the Kyles of Bute. The island is around 0.3 kilometres at its longest length and rises to a height of 19 metres above sea level. It is almost entirely covered by woodland. Although Eilean Dubh is uninhabited, the island's owners, the Ingham Clarks, have their family graveyard here. There is a light to aid navigation at the northern tip of the island. The island forms the idyllic "An Caladh/An Cala" (Scottish Gaelic for "harbour") on the Cowal coast line that was used as a location in BBC television's dramatisation of the Para Handy tales. Eilean Dearg lies to the north and the Burnt Islands lie just to the east.

Argyll and Bute was a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was created for the 1983 general election, merging most of Argyll with some of Bute and Northern Ayrshire, and then superseded by Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber in the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies. Under the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the constituency now comprises the vast majority of the new Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber constituency, first contested at the 2024 general election.

The Kyles of Bute (Scottish Gaelic: Na Caoil Bhòdach) form a narrow sea channel that separates the northern end of the Isle of Bute from the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll and Bute, on the Scottish mainland. The surrounding hillsides are roughly wooded, and overlooked by rocky tops and areas of moorland. The Kyles are split into the East and West Kyles. The East Kyle (Scottish Gaelic: An Caol an Ear) runs from Rothesay Bay north west up to the entrance to Loch Riddon. Here at the northern end of the East Kyle are the Burnt Islands and the island of Eilean Dubh. The West Kyle (Scottish Gaelic: An Caol an Iar/An Caol Ceathrach) runs from here southwest, past the village of Tighnabruaich out to the Sound of Bute. The area is a designated National Scenic Area. The Kyles are reflected in the name of Tighnabruaich-based Shinty team Kyles Athletic.

Loch Ruel or Loch Riddon; extends north from the Kyles of Bute and is a sea loch in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.

Eilean Dearg is a small island in Loch Ruel (or Loch Riddon) in Argyll, Scotland. The island was once home to a castle, which was destroyed by naval action in Argyll's Rising in 1685. No visible remains of the castle are to be found, but archaeologists excavated the site between 1964 and 1967, finding the castle's hall, chapel, a tower and the foundations of the wall, along with a gate. The excavations also found vitrified rock, possibly indicating the island was once occupied by a vitrified fort.
