Wazemmes is a former commune in the Nord department in northern France, merged into Lille in 1858. It is a cosmopolitan neighborhood, with a significant population of Chinese immigrants.

Lycée International Montebello, originally Lycée Européen Montebello, is a senior high school in Lille, France. Its over 3-hectare (7.4-acre) campus is in proximity to the Faubourg des Postes, Lille-Sud, Moulins, and Wazemmes neighbourhoods. It opened in September 1992 and received its current name in May 2014. This former Hospital of Charity was renovated at the end of the 19th century to host 1300 students and 200 teachers and employees. As of 2010 (circa) it had about 115 teachers, 75 other employees, and 1,400 students.

The station Porte des Postes is a station on lines 1 and 2 of the Lille Metro, located in Lille. Opened on 2 May 1984, it is located at the site the former site of the 'Porte de Postes'.

The Jardin botanique Nicolas Boulay is a botanical garden operated by the Faculty of Medicine at the Université Catholique de Lille, Lille, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. The garden is named in honor of Abbé Jean-Nicolas Boulay (1837-1905), and is one of three botanical gardens in Lille, the others being the Jardin des Plantes de Lille and the Jardin botanique de la Faculté de Pharmacie at the Université de Lille 2.

The Saint-Joseph Chapel was a historic church on the grounds of Saint-Paul College in Lille, France. It was built in 1887, and was demolished in February 2021 to build a new campus.

The Université catholique de Lille (also known as the Catholic University of Lille), also « University and Polytechnic Federation of Lille » is a private collegiate university of Catholic-inspired institutions established in 1875. The university comprises five faculties, 20 schools and institutes, research centers, and a hospital, with a cumulative student body of 36,700 in 2021. Although an article of the French Code of Education (L731-14) prohibits private institutes from calling themselves “Universities”, the federation calls itself “Université catholique de Lille" or "Catholic University of Lille”. It is under this name that it improperly communicates, both in France and abroad. It should not be confused with the University of Lille.

ISA Lille, formerly the Institut Supérieur d'Agriculture de Lille, is one of 205 French schools accredited on September 1, 2018, to deliver a Diplôme d'Ingénieur engineering degree. HEI Lille or École des Hautes Études d’Ingénieur (French for School of High Studies in Engineering) is a private school of engineering located in Lille, France, member of Lille Catholic University and a French Grande École. The school trains students during five years and delivers the diploma of Ingénieur (equivalent of a master's degree). The diploma is approved both by the State and the CTI. HEI is a member of the Conference des Grandes Ecoles (CGE) guaranteeing the teaching and selectivity in admissions. In 2019, the school is ranked n°3 by Eduniversal among post baccalaureate training programs of general engineering in France.

It is one of the grandes écoles part of Toulouse Tech.Its different curricula lead to the following French & European degrees : Ingénieur ICAM (ICAM Graduate engineer Masters level program) Master of Science & PhD doctorate studies Mastères Spécialisés (MS) (Specialized Masters)Academic activities and industrial applied research are performed mainly in French and English languages. Students from a dozen nationalities participate in the different curricula at ICAM.Most of the 4,500 graduate engineer students at ICAM live in dedicated residential buildings nearby research labs and metro public transports.

The siege of Lille took place during the War of Devolution. Louis XIV's forces besieged Lille from 10 August to 26 September 1667. It was the only major engagement of the war. Lille was the first major victory for Vauban’s siege techniques. Louis XIV, arguing that the Spanish dowry of his wife Maria Theresa of Spain had not been paid, began to expand French borders to the north and east, invading the Spanish Netherlands. This began a conflict with Spain that became the War of Devolution. After taking Charleroi, Tournai and Douai, French troops laid siege to Lille, at that time part of the county of Flanders under Spanish rule. Siege techniques applied by the French military engineer Vauban were instrumental in their capture.
